  2. If they don't want Shearer that's fine as long as they don't appoint an utter idiot Lets hope we don't end up with an owner dumb enough to appoint someone like Souness.....
  3. Agreed, I'm struggling to think of a time when Ferguson has sold a player to another English club that was still any good.
  4. The one piece of comfort we can all take from this sorry episode, is that idiots CAN become billionaires.
  5. http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/3348...p-for-sale.html 'I've made terrible decisions,' admits Newcastle owner By MARTIN HARDY, 30/05/2009 ALAN SHEARER'S future as Newcastle manager is hanging in the balance after Mike Ashley officially put the club up for sale. Shearer and assistant Iain Dowie threatened to walk out this week after Ashley was unable to assure them funds would be available for rebuilding. And now there are real doubts Shearer will stay after Ashley revealed he is looking for a quick sale. Sources close to the club believe he would take as little as £80million for Newcastle. Ashley said: "It has been catastrophic for everybody. I've lost my money and I've made terrible decisions. Now I want to sell it as soon as I can . . . advisers will be appointed shortly." With Ashley desperate to get out of St James' Park, Shearer's appointment will only be confirmed if a new financial structure is approved by the club's bankers this week. A provisional agreement is in place for Shearer and his assistant Iain Dowie to sign four-year contracts. But before they can start the job of leading the club back into the Premier League, Newcastle's bankers have insisted Ashley puts a new business plan in place. That will include a staggering 50 per cent reduction in Newcastle's £40m overdraft and a major overhaul of a pay structure which has been allowed to spiral. That means Shearer's deal has been shelved while talks between Ashley and the club's financiers continue this week. Shearer and Dowie were prepared to walk away from St James' Park last week after an initial breakdown in talks. Kitty Ashley said he was unable to provide any funds for players and the managerial duo said they could not do the job under those circumstances. But within hours, Ashley changed his mind and said he would give them a transfer kitty of up to £20m - on the understanding they unload some of Newcastle's overpaid and underachieving players. That will have to form part of the business plan demanded by the bank. Managing director Derek Llambias has a series of meetings scheduled with both lawyers and financiers this week with a deadline of Friday expected to be set for an agreement.
  6. December 2008: ''Firstly any potential buyer would have to show they had the best interests of Newcastle United at heart and had both the commitment and finance to be worthy custodians of such a fine football club before I would even consider doing a deal. ''And secondly, I gave you my word that as long as I remain owner, this club would continue to be run responsibly at all levels. I hope you will accept that I have stood by that pledge.''
  7. Mike Ashley has revealed he is looking to sell Newcastle as soon as possible following the club's relegation to the Championship. The Magpies owner apologised this week for the mistakes he had made during both the 2008/9 campaign and previous seasons. He is now keen to offload the club and recoup some of his massive investment, although he accepts he is facing a significant loss. "It has been catastrophic for everybody," Ashley told the Sunday Times. "I've lost my money and I've made terrible decisions. Now I want to sell it as soon as I can ... advisers will be appointed shortly." Ashley admits he was wrong to buy a 100 per cent stake in Newcastle in 2007, saying: "Of course I regret it. I never said I was an expert in football clubs. "I was just a fan - although a very wealthy fan. But I'm not so wealthy now. I put my money into it and I tried my best. Woefully short "But I accept my best was woefully short. I am genuinely sorry for everybody about what has happened." Ashley had sought a buyer last year when he was criticised by supporters in the wake of Kevin Keegan's departure from St James' Park. Keith Harris, chairman of investment bank Seymour Pierce, scoured the world looking for buyers after being asked to do so by Ashley. None of the interested parties came up with an acceptable deal and Ashley opted to put a hold on his plans to sell. However, it is understood that Harris could now be in talks with a new group after travelling to the North East earlier this week.
  8. David Craig has just been on SSN and he reckons there is going to be a story in the News Of The World tomorrow saying Newcastle have been given 7 days by there bankers to slash 50% of there debt or face trouble.
  9. "its a massive fuck up, I want out" is not the greatest title of a sales brochure
  10. He must have looked at Shearers plans and realised he would have to be passionately commited to the club to back them - its just more shite and i can't see who will buy us - the revenue streams are fucked and without immediate direction were are gonna be left with a bunch of shite players sitting on big contracts - what a fuckin arsehole He is the fucking makems wet dream really isn't he! Statement from The Stadium of Light: "Agent Ashley return to base, mission accomplished".

  14. As a child of the 70's Keegan was a hero of mine, I was more into International football as there is no league football team in my town, I didn't support Norwich or Ipswich as both seemed as far away as the likes of Liverpool or Manchester United, although I live within 45miles of both clubs, as a child it might as well have been China, so I never identified with either. My affection for Newcastle can be blamed on Jossy's Giants, I loved that show as a kid and it's links to Newcastle United stuck, but when Keegan took over at Newcastle it sent it into over drive, instead of being a "fan", I became a supporter, the infectious virus that is NUFC took over and that's how its been ever since.
  15. Once again he was fantastic, over 2 hours of mentalism and he didn't miss a beat, as for the finale ! Wow !
