http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ugh/8473217.stm as per the topic. shouldnt we be after this sort of player. Would be nice if everything didnt have to go down the left for a change. Routledge is a decent player. A poor mans wright-philips but would be a v good addition to our team i reckon. bit of pace other than Guttierez and we would be alot better. Duno how Hughton cant see this like. Ryan taylor or Guthrie wide right

i didnt go cos of the price, i checked the website the nite before and was half tempted to just go up on me bill but cudnt be arsed with no seats being sold and that. atmosphere would have been shite so just thort id go home and listen to the radio after work. By price i mean surely it would be more economical and better for the team if they just set the ticket prices about £8 and sell 50,00 tickets and have vocal home support but they dont. dont get it at all. also having signed up for 3 years last year its not like im not at the home games as i attend all the home league matches and most the away ones

From the times The Newcastle United Supporters Trust have received a startling response to their attempts to buy a substantive stake in the Coca Cola Championship club, with fans to date pledging well in excess of £50m in support of the bid. The Times understands that more 6000 fans have responded to the ‘Yes We Can’ campaign with offers of financial backing, with around 4000 prepared to fund a minimum of £1500 and another 2000 signalling their willingness to invest £25,000 from their pension funds. While no money has yet been collected and the NUST’s financial advisors have cautioned that up to half of the pledges may not be followed through, the figures still represent a strong desire on behalf of fans to have a say in the future running of Newcastle, which is presently owned by Mike Ashley, the sportswear retailer. The NUST also claim to have significant backing from wealthy individuals and North East-based businesses, details of which they will announce in the coming weeks. With Chris Hughton’s players responding to the off-field difficulties of last summer by opening up a six-point lead at the top of the division, supporters have responded in an equally positive manner. Ashley’s three-year tenure at St James’ Park has brought five managers, relegation, numerous controversies and two failed attempts to sell-up. “The take-up has been astounding and demonstrates fans have the appetite to back the ‘Yes We Can’ campaign,” a source close to the NUST said last night. “It also shows that fans are still sceptical about the intentions of the present owners and see an alternative as preferable to the uncertainty that surrounds investment plans for the future.” Newcastle City Council are to consider a cross-party motion offering their support to the NUST. “This is not intended as a pop at the current owners,” John Shipley, the council leader, said. “It’s saying we feel frustration at the events of the last decade and all the shenanigans of managers and owners, which we feel has had an effect on the reputation of the club and a rub-off on the reputation of the city.”

He outpaced a young lad with very little Premiership experiance IIRC? It wasnt Wes Brown who he outpaced was it? Who for the record is gash too. Well get the fucking cheque book out and break the bank! Yes we do need to realise where we are now, but we are top of a WANK league as it is with Shola & Nolan scoring. I say we give Ranger and some of the other lads a chance rather than thrown £1.5m away. Now, if you think were going to buy him for £1.5m, get promoted and then sell him for £5m then I think youre wrong IMO of course. Why would a team do that? Why dont they just come in for him now? or when he is out of contract? it was wes brown............

no he handed in his transfer request ages ago. Leeds United can confirm that Jermaine Beckford has handed in a transfer request. The transfer request was handed in on December 30. "By handing in a transfer request it clearly indicates that the player wants to leave Leeds United. "However, that will only be allowed to happen in the event that it is decided to be in the best interests of Leeds United. "The best interests of Leeds United involve receiving both an acceptable transfer fee and securing a suitable replacement to ensure his departure does not have an adverse effect on the club's overall aim of securing promotion back to the Coca-Cola Championship."

Newcastle United have submitted a third and final bid of £1.5million for Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford. The Tyneside club have made a last attempt to meet United's valuation after failing with two previous bids to prise Beckford away from Elland Road. Leeds have not commented on Newcastle's latest offer but it is anticipated that the board at Elland Road will once again reject it. Newcastle approached Leeds before Christmas with bids of £1m and £1.25m – fees which were turned down outright by United – and a further offer made this week was a last-ditch effort to persuade United to part company their 20-goal striker. Leeds have no interest in selling Beckford for less than their asking price – thought to be in the region of £2million – despite the fact that the forward's contract will expire at the end of this season. Newcastle have tested United's resolution repeatedly during the last month but should their latest bid prove unsuccessful, the Championship leaders are likely to take their search for a new forward elsewhere. Newcastle's board are understood to have set £1.5m as the maximum fee they were willing to pay for Beckford and will not return to Leeds for a fourth time. Beckford stands to treble his wages by transferring to St James' Park but Leeds manager Simon Grayson warned after the club's FA Cup victory at Old Trafford on Sunday that his club would not bow to a cut-price deal. "He's got five goals in his last three games and strikers are a big commodity," Grayson said. "If we do let him go then it won't be on the cheap, that's for sure." Regardless of the size of Newcastle's offer, Leeds would only move to agree a deal once Grayson had lined up a suitable replacement. United's manager is rumoured to be interested in Billy Sharp but is likely to be priced out of a January move with Sheffield United set to demand £2million for the striker. Leeds are believed to consider that valuation excessive. Scunthorpe United's Gary Hooper – a player who scored 30 goals in League One last season – has also been linked to Elland Road, but Leeds still favour the option of retaining Beckford until the end of the season. Newcastle are not the only club interested in recruiting him. Bolton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion are among a number of other sides with an eye on Beckford, and Newcastle's bids may be the first of many received by Leeds during the transfer window
