Alan Pardew - Poltroon sacked by a forrin team
Happy Face replied to Kid Dynamite's topic in Newcastle Forum
That's the model at literally every club though. Ronaldo was sold for £80 million because for as good as he is, £80 million is mental and they've still had success. Now, you're going to get into the pedantics of 100%, aren't you? I suppose 100% is virtually 50/50 these days what with footballers "110% effort" and Simon Cowell's "one billion percent yes".- 10610 replies

Agreed, was way too much to turn down. I've not got any qualms about the £35m being accepted. I just wonder why he'd keep saying he was 100% certain Carroll wouldn't be sold if he knew from day 1 the model he's working under where ANY player is for sale if our valuation of them is surpassed.- 10610 replies

I was just having a laugh with you too until your post 3070 went all in depth and deserved a serious response. I've got no qualms about being wrong on something or taking the piss out of myself for it....or having the piss taken out of me for it. But no-one has actually pointed out any arguments or posts that were wrong from me or Parky. I had to bring up the West Brom comparison as something I recall getting wrong myself. It can be annoying to hear the "team negative" blanket term applied not because of any basis in truth and not because it's being applied to me, but because that soundbite has simplified a lot of nuanced discussion from the likes of PP, Craig, Alex, Mancy, Tom, Fish, Parky etc and lazily assumes all those views were wrong without any examination. -
Gemmil's engaged you like an adult many times Leazes, why would he repeat himself? You'd only avoid his points entirely, move onto someone else for a bit, then start up again, like you did here... if you really think that you can be successful without backing your manager, you seriously need help. Grow up or expect the piss-taking.

When our opinions match I'll support you, but is this a comedy post or do you really have no self-awareness whatsoever? How can you lament the "booing of 5th" as a disgrace under Shepherd, yet dedicate so much time abusing the people who are "happy with 5th"? It can only be an alcohol induced flight of fancy which you refuse to back down on.

NEWCASTLE United’s US-based fans are set to miss out on seeing their heroes in action this summer across the pond. As the Chronicle reported on March 7, United’s success in the Premier League this season resulted in an increase of offers from abroad to play pre-season friendlies. But the push for Europe has made it difficult for Newcastle to plan too far ahead not knowing whether they will be involved in either the Europa League or Champions League – and this looks to have ruled out a trip to the States. Toon boss Alan Pardew has always been keen to make sure Newcastle’s preparations for the 2012/13 campaign is exactly right from a footballing point of view. Newcastle are still unsure of which – if any – European competition they will be in next season, and this will be factored into their pre-season plans with play-off dates in both the Europa League and the Champions League, meaning that a trip to the US in late July appears to have been deemed unsuitable. Major League Soccer sources confirmed to the Chronicle today that Newcastle were lined up to play in the MLS All Stars game in Philadelphia on July 25 at PPL Park as well as having the option to take on other East Coast opposition. With Europe also in mind, Newcastle were keen to look at other opposition to get warmed up for the new campaign with the Premier League kicking off on August 18. United may face play-off dates on August 21 or 22 and then August 28 or 29 in the Champions League, with the Europa League play-offs taking place later in the same weeks. I think you also said the old board were leading us to financial ruin, which Leazes won't have. I also agree (then and now) they were a great board who took this club from the depths of the old second division to the champions league. That's not mutually exclusive from the financial view we share and disagree with Leazes on though. I quoted CT to show my view rather than yours. It's really a shame the forum was (is?) so polarised by all the team positive/team negative nonsense and everyone has been grouped so simplisticly. For better or worse I'm now tarred as banging the drum for "team negative". I won't deny my utter contempt for Ashley, my blog, my twitter (all vehemently opposed him), and as one of the most frequent posters on here, it's been clear. I don't think any of it makes me particularly negative about the possibilities at NUFC on the football side though. I have expressed doubts about the owners intent on that score, currently I look daftest for my fear that we were being set up like West Brom. The yoyo club theory I espoused being predicated on a view that he would try to recoup his loans above bringing in quality players. The paltry £5m or so spent following promotion did nothing to allay this fear, and then the sale of Carroll only worried me further. All the while you (correctly) argued he wouldn't let it come to that, despite those flies in the ointment. Going on that "Back to the future" thread though, these genuine concerns were not based on anything I didn't believe was totally avoidable. I always said that it would be easy to maintain a club of our size in the top half if he would just have a go.... Spend £20m on one or two players. Aim for the top half. Simples. Nothing negative in that. I was saying Aim for 7th Deanoesque tbh. I didn't think Ashley would actually try it though so predicted 12th. He didn't and that's where we finished. This season I said we wouldn't beat that, this was after selling Nolan and before we brought in some additional bodies. Even after an incredible start though I still wasn't at all convinced, thinking we'd fall away because he just hadn't provided the squad depth it needed...you can see below my ava on the left when I was turned around on that score. Though I still lamented (and lament) that we didn't get the defender we were crying out for (would we have dropped points to Arsenal and Wolves?) We didn't go for it in year one, we spent a few million, finished bottom half and sacked another manager. We spent £15m in the summer, got excellent value for it, added another £8m in winter, exceeding the £20m suggested, and we've not looked back. I've barely had a bad word for Ashley since he's done that either. You had also hoped for more investment that first year back yourself... ...but have always been willing to give the owner the benefit of the doubt in his slow build approach, whenever he has disappointed you. I don't think he had earned that. He has now. -

Spot on CT, athough you feel 'positive' wherever we are in the league, whoever we've sacked or sold I wasn't responding to a Leazes "I was right post" though, I responded to a Chez "HF was wrong" one. Fair game IYAM. -

Is it me or do those ten contradict each other? Accomodate “Luxury” Vs Lose The Prima-Donnas Be Frugal vs Take Risks -
This reminds me of our game there. Hopefully Wigan keep their mind on the job right to the whistle.

I'm not giving anybody 5 years, it won't take anywhere near that long. As soon as he starts selling anybody, and withholding the money from the manager again, it's all over. You don't progress long term doing that. No defence. No argument. End of debate and fully vindicated, sadly. But he's done that this year and we're higher than we've been in almost 10 years. We've bought £50m worth of players for £25 million in the past year.
-
That's not to say I'm not also concerned about the summer window and pushing on btw, just that the argument seems to get very ad hominem when both sides are basically "wait and see".
-
You can't expect people to give you 5 years to see if you end up being right Leazes, when you take the piss out of anyone who says "wait until the next window. We'll see if the squads improved then"
-
Sorry. Wigan! Score!

Next goal to Wigan as Arsenal leave space at the back. Howay.

I'm just yanking CG's chain. He likes to have a dig, lump me in with Leazes because I respect the views of someone with decades of match-going experience and defend the bloke when people put words in his mouth. Fact is though, the only 'narrative' I've ever had is that Ashley is a liar and I wouldn't trust him as far as his belly reaches over his belt. That won't change no matter what. If we win the champions league I still wouldn't have time for the twat. No idea why CG thinks I'd be bitter. I was the one telling the likes of uber positive CT his hopes were too modest after promotion. He's running around demanding plaudits for his positive outlook when not too long ago he was saying to me... http://www.toontastic.net/board/topic/27275-back-to-the-future/page__view__findpost__p__731210 I'm fully vindicated truth be told. -

That's patent nonsense. I've said good things about the current regime going back months. All you've done is follow the mainstream media narrtive slavishly regarding Pards and Ashley. If you want to congratulate yourself for that be my guest. Apart from which you stood by Obertans for how many months??? When Chez was bullying those of us who feared we'd sell Carroll back in December 2010, and we subsequently did and dropped down the league, we all largley had the good grace not to mention it to him too much, we left him to reshape his 'narrative'. Every post from Chez since we beat West Brom has been dripping with self-congratulation and nose rubbing. Long may he have reason to blow his own horn like. -
Seems the rest of the board are too. I'm up to date on Ch4. Still basically 24 with trousers on.
-
OP updated Pardew will get all Billy Big Bollocks, miss a few gamblers anonymous meetings, drink too much and fuck one of the reserves girlfriends at the christmas do. Still won't be sacked either.
-
Howay Wigan you bell ends, peg back Arsenal AND Villa.

so where is the 25m quid left from the sale of Carroll, and what happened to the 14th biggest revenues in football ? Caught me by surprise with that response, I genuinely never saw that coming. Haha Cock It basically amounts to what they've got already, the formats are almost identical anyway with hundreds of games. They'll just be filtering some CL money to EL teams and combining them to one winner. -
Cisse was our third choice wasn't he?

Yeah, it's a bloody daft format, especially for a second tier competition. Would provide more tension if they just did knockout rounds. maybe even altered it to one leg (shock horror!) in the early rounds. I think that idea has been mentioned alot and I don't think there is a good argument against it. Goal.com and no-one else picked it up so probably bollocks... Uefa president Michel Platini has contemplated the idea of scrapping the Europa League in favour of extending the Champions League to 64 teams in four years time, according to Bild. In what would be the biggest shake-up in Europe's club competitions since the rebranding of the European Cup to its current form in 1992, the former France midfielder is reportedly planning on creating a single continental tournament. Currently, the secondary competition generates far lower revenue for clubs than is produced by the Champions League, a problem Platini is increasingly concerned about, while it has been a target for much criticism since its evolution from the Uefa Cup in 2009. To address this, Platini wants to increase the number of teams in the Champions League group stage to 64 teams in 2016, effectively absorbing most of the clubs from the Europa League. Renowned European nations such as Spain, England and Germany would then be given six league berths each in their respective top-flight divisions. In addition, the reform would ensure more scope would be given to lesser countries, including those from the likes of Latvia, Belarus and Slovakia. -
He deserves credit in that he'll pay, but only as long as the price is right. Carr was saying Cisse's release clause was £14m or £15m, they were asking for £12m and we bargained them down to £8m. Can't complain while it's working. Question is how long they can keep finding bargains.
