Not to mention his one attribute is pace, and we're playing a team lacking in competitive match fitness. How many reasons do you need? As for Shola, that was an attacking sub (taking the DM, Tiote off) and he was the only striker on the bench. Shola's got a couple of goals in this competition this season too. What should Pardew have done, throw Simpson on up front?

Yeah but not blessed with options on the wings either. I think Marveaux prefers the freedom of a more central role over being stuck on the wing.

I hope that's the case, would make sense. Sissoko should help him somewhat but I'll expect him to get his customary yellow card in every other game. Hopefully he'll just protect the back 4 from here on out, offensively he's woeful half the time and he appears to have to shoot on cue when the crowd shout the word.
