I'd have picked one of our lot before I picked him, as well as Oxlade-Chamberlain and 2 or 3 of the Swansea and Norwich boys. To pick him on the basis of that is laughable Bet Pearce's reasoning is "well he was great for me a couple of years ago with the U21s".

Sorry, even if you were correct, it would never be that simple. People don't spend millions on things purely to spite others. The things Ashley has done/authorised are more down to bad advice, and not keeping his two highest profile businesses - NUFC and Sports DIrect - at arm's length. Hyperbole or not I don't know, but I don't think there's any malicious intent. At worst, he just doesn't care about us all that much. Shepherd is a fan, so yes I agree that he did things for us (or rather, didn't do things to anger us like renaming SJP). That he also did plenty for himself has been covered by others.

I don't agree with that, how do you maintain a happy squad if you don't give anyone the chance to earn their place? Reminds me of Robson telling Bowyer he would still be dropped for Dyer despite having a great game, must he terrible for the morale of squad players. Meh... I'm not suggesting the above should be a blanket approach. Guthrie has done well, but he's not as good as Cabaye in my opinion and I'd rather put sentiment aside and play Cabaye over him. Besides, Pardew could just use the Spurs game as an excuse to drop Guthrie, as unfair as that sounds.

You play your best players at the end of the day. Tiote and Cabaye are our best central midfielders, without question.
