My next door neighbour is a lorry driver who brings over fresh fish from France. He was saying that there's a time threshold on the delivery for the fish to still count as fresh that's under 24 hours from the time of catching it. Apparently it's now taking 2 days to process things through customs which is compromising this standard. He also told me that what was once a 3 day round trip is now a 5 day one - I don't know which way he voted or if he did at all, but he thinks they'll have to change it or whole industries are going to collapse. I mean he's just a lorry driver in the end, but I'm assuming he's pretty familiar with the product he and his colleagues are shipping, and what the requirements are.

Bit of a debate raging in the Guardian comment sections atm - was Rooney a better player than Shearer? Debate is going on along club lines with the only balanced opinions being from outsiders, but in general the consensus is that Rooney was the better player 'all round' but Shearer the better goalscorer. I remember Shearer being decent in his defensive work towards the end though and I can remember Rooney being completely useless and carried through games at times. Obviously this has all kicked off because Rooney has just retired.

So is one shot of the vaccine all it takes then? I thought you needed two. Or has Renton been lucky enough to have had both?

Ok so it sucks that this happened and I'm sorry for your pain, truly. BUT Imagine how much the Antivaxxers would love this story A grown man gets vaccinated, starts skipping (something they would doubtless associate with homosexuality), and wakes up the following day concussed and in full body pain. You should sell it to them tbf, it could only be more perfect if you'd bought a Windows upgrade at the same time.

I think on top of that, there's a real lack of willingness among Brexit voters to accept that they just aren't as informed as other people. It's almost like they see it as a threat to their sense of self. You tend to hear a lot of these people disparaging university/higher education as a waste of time (and it really can be) but for the majority of people who go there, it's the diversity of opinion that you're surrounded by that really helps you to better inform yourself - and this isn't an opportunity that's easy to come by outside of learning institutions IMO. My Mum never went to uni and she frequently harps on about how she was educated in the 'school of life' and how people shouldn't look down on her for it - and honestly, no one does look down on her, it's all in her head - but the belief that they do makes her double down on the weirdest fucking issues, without any idea of what constitutes proper evidence or a reasoned argument. I've met quite a few people like this over the course of my life so I don't think it's just her - and it would be fine except that it's coupled with this belief that their opinion is somehow as valid as that of someone who is informed about an issue. And it just isn't. Not all opinions are created equal. She didn't vote for Brexit fwiw but probably only because of the concerns of all of her children. She does however believe that Boris Johnson is a capable man, that trans people are a threat to women in public bathrooms, and that people intentionally get sent to prison so that they can sit around all day playing video games.

She's lost 150,000 arrest records. Maybe it won't matter if we bring back the death penalty, doesn't appear that any department she runs would be competent enough to actually process anyone for it. I'd hate to be the individual responsible for that loss though - they'll probably be the first person to face the execution squads given how she comes across as a manager.

The Martinez effect. Takes over Everton who had been drilled fairly competently by Moyes, introduces some attacking verve, has a good season as the blend between the two styles takes hold but then loses it as the defensive discipline collapses. At least that's vaguely my memory of it.

They were warned by the left though - or at least people they perceive to be 'the left'. And the left are evil socialists who want to bring about communism and forcibly re-gender everyone. Why would they listen to us?

Based on the clip of her versus Ian Hislop that's going around, it would appear that she does not.

The manner in which the politics played out was very coup like. They took a 48:52 vote split and took it to the most extreme position possible without having no deal. Coupled with Johnson's parliamentary shenanigans, I think we can call it a coup and still blame people for voting to enable it.

Johnson may be the most opportunistic, Gove may be the most repulsively vile, and Hancock may be the most pathetic, but Patel is honestly the most downright callous and mean.

And there's a public majority for it allegedly. If you take all 100% of people who voted for Brexit, I think I recall reading that the highest percentage of support from that group for any other policy, is for the death penalty to be brought back.

Wait, UKIP are still trying to be a thing? Independence from what, exactly? Rational thought is my best guess but I'd imagine they've got something else in mind.

I'm not convinced Don Jr has the same appeal as his father, I don't think we have to worry about a resurgence of the Trump legacy after this, they're being cast out of the Republican party in full. Ted Cruz maybe taking on the mantle, or Tucker Carlson if he decides to swing that way.

I assume it would also prevent Trump from getting classified intel after he leaves office. Which I think is a must, frankly.

I just noticed the overall total for the first time in a while - 100k deaths man, christ. How many would have been avoidable with better decision making? It's a tragedy.

That is hands down one of the worst interviews I've ever seen Hancock give. He should be sacked on the spot just for being so fucking useless.

Well I hope they get maximum value out of it. And then proceed to bar him from ever running again, not that I expect he'll make it that far.

It looks like they won't get impeachment through against Trump because it requires a 2/3 majority which the Democrats don't have. I don't know why anyone even bothered entertaining it in light of that fact. However, apparently he could be barred from ever running for office again by the 14th Amendment which notes the formal disqualification of someone who has been involved in insurrection against the government. That's probably a nice middle of the road solution for a lot of this anyway, and makes sure that the cult of personality around him is at a total dead end.
