  1. They've postponed the Tories 1m raise until the Libs 10k tax threshold is achieved (I'd guess 2 or 3 years) Nice though it is, how is the Liberals tax cut going to be paid for in a major recession?
  2. I seriously think of a lot of Liberals are completed deluded and are in denial as to what has happened.
  3. Aye, I saw it. I thought Hughes (who reminds me of Uncle Bryn from Gavin and Stacey for some reason) got the metaphorical shit kicked out of him by that lad from the New Statesman (Mehdi Hasan?), was quite amusing. Even Melanie Phillips made some decent points, including the changing of the vote of no confidence threshold. Politics has never been more interesting. Labour can now just sit back in opposition and witness the inevitable fall out, from their own point of view, they are going to come out of this best. Hasan also made the point that the next election will be one on one between Labour and the Conservatives with the Liberals decimated, which I also agree with. He pointed out this is what the history books show as well.
  4. Apologies if this has been mentioned previously (been away) but I haven't seen it posted here (from Beeb). Wtf??? Centuries of democracy thrown out the window on the first day? How can this be allowed to happen?
  5. Okayy.......... What's this got to do with anything Parky? How does the Sun's poles flipping cause disaster to us?
  6. How many cards are people hauling about with them like? I've got 2 in my wallet. One for cash, one to get access to the building at work. It's hardly a lot of extra effort. No credit card, driving license, or HMV store card?
  7. How many cards are people hauling about with them like? I've got 2 in my wallet. One for cash, one to get access to the building at work. It's hardly a lot of extra effort. I've got about 6 on me at the mo but really I could do with carrying more if my wallet could hold them. And I don't even have a works card.
  8. ...and also open to massive abuse from all angles (criminals, data theft, id theft, snoops, Govt infringement, insurance scams, blackmail)...As it is hundreds of thousands of cases of id fraud/credit fraud goes on every year. Less id markers in the system the better IMO. Aye, well, surely it must be possible to make it failsafe? Remember, a few years ago cars were twocked right, left, and centre. Now that is virtually impossible because the immobilisers are so good (they just jack you instead). Probably a subject for a different thread, trying to buy a 4.50 quid metro ticket with change ain't fun though.
  9. ...and you'd been doing so well in this thread for so long... I wouldn't make them cumpulsory like.
  10. Going by your recent track record, it's best to believe the exact inverse of whatever you say... You will find my prediction of the financial failure of capitalism in various threads on this site. And?
  11. I used to be massively against them but now I'm not arsed, apart from the cost. I was actually thinking that ID cards with limited biometric data but some type of 'Oyster Card' facility to eliminate small change might be canny.
  12. I'm getting a rather unpleasent image of Cameron, Clegg and co daisychaining each other in alternate Liberal/Conservative order.

Got to admit this is somewhat underwhelming. I was hoping you might be Nick Clegg or something for a minute.
  14. I have less of a problem with Oxbridge per se and more of a problem with 30K a year boarding schools and Bullingdon clubs. Bridget went to Oxford after all.
  15. Believe me, I truly want to be proved wrong. No offense, but I think you have to be a litte bit more sympathetic towards a total lack of trust towards the Tories up here after what went on the last time. Especially when our new PM let slip the North East's economy was 'unsustainable' and then didn't bother to come anywhere near here during the whole campaign. Hardly installs confidence does it? I'm not a stubborn twat though, I'm just a cynical bastard who would take a lot of convincing. A hell of a lot of convincing. I can imagine that that Daily Mail article that you metioned is a prevalent view amongst the right wingers of the tory party. Remember there was recently a tory think tank that repeated Tebbit's mantra of 'get on your bike'. Add that to the fact that the tories and Lib Dems have been almost completely wiped out in the North East then all in all only an idiot wouldn't be concerned. It's not just public sector workers either. There will be a huge knock on effect to the private sector, many of which are at least semi-dependent on government contracts (I fall into that category). And with rising levels of unemployment we will inevitably have more social unrest and an increase in crime. Even taxi drivers will be affected ultimately. Do I hope this happens to prove a point? Of course not, and only a complete idiot would say so.
  16. Ha ha, I would love to see you back that up. It's you that doesn't give a shit about the regional economy or people's jobs. You've really proved yourself to be the most odious poster this board has ever produced, without exception. Well done.
  17. Clegg knew about the comment, that bit of pantomime was rehersed as was nearly the whole Press Conferance with pre-identifyied journalist only allowed to ask questions. Aye, it was truely side-splitting stuff.
  18. But Craig, considering Liberal policies were left of Labour can't they see the present coalition just doesn't make sense? Also, you may be coming from a casual voter perspective but I understand that at consituency and local government level the tories and lib dems share a high degree of enmity with each other. It'll all end in tears for them once the honeymoon is over.
  19. Clegg has to cover PM questions for him when Cameron is absent. The whole affair is utterly preposterous and nauseating. but I thought you were in favour of pr Lots of different forms, I wouldn't support one which encouraged the parties at the extremes to make a coalition though. It makes no sense, and is fundamentally dishonest. I think the Lib Dems have ensured that we will return to good old two party politics with first past the post to stay (perhaps with AV which will make no difference as the Lib Dems will have massively reduced support). Quite ironic really.
  20. From personal anecdotes I'd think that most are literally horrified at what has happened. After all, they were generally more left wing than New Labour and I know how I would feel about a Lab-Con pact. I use the past tense in reference to the Liberals purposefully. Incidentally I was talking to quite a few economists on Tuesday night and not one of them were confident about the Conservatives in general or this coalition specifically. It's cause the solutions are few and the problems are many. Actually I think their skepticism was more because they were University lecturers and were fearing cuts but anyway.....

  23. Left with dignity and honour despite predictions to the contrary from the rabid right-wing press. 'All political lives, unless they are cut off in midstream at a happy juncture, end in failure, because that is the nature of politics and of human affairs'. Said by none other than Enoch Powell, perhaps the only thing he said that I agree with.
  24. Blairite iirc. His younger brother is more of a lefty. Ed's older. YOu got that wrong fuckhead. Was at a meeting once where Ed talked and thought he referred to David as younger and brighter. Obviously heard that wrong then. Mind, I'd say David looked younger as well which doesn't help.
