So, am I right in thinking you're Fish's boss? for once it's not me that's on the job hunt. And I thought that there are still procedures that you just go through, even in the probation period. A warning, then a formal warning followed by dismissal. Naah, pretty sure they can dispose of you when they want in the early stages. Otherwise it would be a nightmare employing people.

I saw a few films on Emirates last month. However, unlike Chez I didn't have the benefit of a 42 inch HD plasma TV to watch them on. And why are the games so shit?

Emmanuel college - not sure if its still going but it made the headlines a few years ago for having creationist science on the agenda (which was backed by fuckwit Blair). It's still going. Good exam results mind The Head of Science was on TV a while back literally claiming the Universe was 6000 years old, but he had to 'lie' to the children so they could pass their exams (in essence then he was teaching them to lie, ironic coming from a christian). I felt like shoving one of Cherie's crystals up Tony's arse.

In terms of schools yes - I think streaming within a school is fine as it allows for pupils to move up and down as they develop and also mix streams if they are better at a couple of subjects. I was at the back end of the 11 plus system (first time around) and though I passed I always thought it was wrong that kids who failed were "written off" at 11 and expected to at best get "junior" academic jobs but were mainly meant for manual labour. I think within a comprehensive system/school it allows kids who are "average" to still have a good chance. I also think bright kids aren't held back that much by "thickos" - the school I went to had just changed from grammar to comprehensive and I never felt restricted. Fair enough, principles are one thing but what about the fact that selection improves overall performance? Plus there are often opportunities to move to grammar schools after the 3rd and 5th year of post-primary education. I've always had a problem with selection at 11 years old (seems to young) but ultimately surely all education is meritocratic. I'd think arbritrarily it is reasonable to stream at 13 years - which effectively happens in comprehensives anyway. And I'd like private education to be abolished along with 'Academies' which are socially devisive imo (as well as being moronic).
-
Hardly fair like. You should blame the ridiculous selection procedures which in my mind border on 'racist'. But if you had a kid and the only good school around was a catholic one you might be tempted to feign a bit of piety.

All the rocket tech and nukes they got from Germans. The first road cars were also invented by Germans, Benz if I iirc..I thought Konrad Zuse (yes Renton not an american name ) the GERMAN invented the first computer in 1936... Soooo, I'll give you consumer goods. Is there really any point of the likes of you and tooner posting in this thread, it is beyond doubt you are both ridiculously knowledgeless... Peace. He should stick to the forlorn hope that one day he might be responsible for curing Aids or cancer, instead of stuff he is utterly clueless about. Are you willing to support any of your spurious arguments with actual evidence yet Stevie? Some cunts have work to do, not scouring the internet in working hours looking for evidence a monkey would know about anyway. Aye well, remember it was you who promised the evidence Stevie.

Virtually all Americans are basically immigrants anyway though so that's why you can argue idea 1) 2) or 3) originally came from x, y or z but it says a lot about the country that those ideas were able to flourish in America. Exactly. Nuclear weapons came from Germany did they? Why weren't they used then? Or are you arguing that because Oppenheimer was of German-Jewish decent that made the invention of the fission bomb a German one? Also I've already mentioned that the US used German rocket technology and Von Braun was crucial to the Americans in the space race. But to not give the US credit for reaching the moon just underlines how ridiculous your anti-American stance is. That's if, of course, you now accept they went there. Oh, I meant the modern computer, not some kind of ancient calculator made from brass cogs. And the internet, the medium you spread your bollocks on (ooh err), care to comment?

So, am I right in thinking you're Fish's boss? I think you're right ewerk btw.
-
The British have been incredibly inventive and have contributed one hell of a lot to the world of Science and Technology, but to imply that this means the US somehow were reliant on us for these things is idiocy. Of the top of my head, the Americans have been responsible for the first manned flight, first mass production of the car and many other consumer goods, most modern military technology, development of the computer and internet, and development of the first fission and fusion nuclear bombs. Not to mention the small feat of landing a man on the moon. They are also responsible for the majority of science and medical publications, although we punch above our weight on that score too.

I think that's right about Burton. I personally liked CatCF a lot though.
-
I enjoyed the 3D in Avatar, not seen anything else though. Like it or not, after the success of Avatar, every film exec will demand their film is shot in 3d "Also, can we change the character to a blue cat-monkey? Audiences really seem to respond to that." Watched Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In) last night after finishing the superb book. Really, really good film. Aye, saw that a while back - superb. A proper film with none of this 3D shite.
-
Saw 'Alice in Wonderland' last night. I usually like Tim Burton films but this was disappointing. There was no element of horror or suspense, the characters were interesting in a surreal way but there was no emotional connection for me. Also, the whole concept doesn't really suit such a strong narrative - I'm not convinced AiW could ever be turned into a particularly enoyable film. Hats off to Depp's performance though (pun intended). This was also the first full length 3D film I've seen. It confirmed my prejudices - it adds nothing imo. Does anyone actually think it makes things look more real? For me the converse is true - the characters look like 2D cut outs in a 3D box. And then the director has to put the inevitable 'sword jutting out of screen' shots in. Yawn. The novelty wears off in 10 minutes, after which you're still obliged to wear the skanky glasses on your head and develop a migraine.

Mike Ashley plans to remain Newcastle owner for at least two more years
Renton replied to Tom's topic in Newcastle Forum
Aye, everyone else is obsessed with Shepherd. YOU want to heap praise on them at any and every opportunity, whether it's to compare Ashley with them or Benjamin Netanyahu. You're like a 50 year old that hates his wife and won't stop furiously masturbating over some 18 year old that once gave you a nosh. Face it man, she was a slag too. Forget about it. It's history. Slate Ashley on his own terms. Even in GC this topic comes up time and time again, and I think we all know why. I'd like to see a permanent thread for this cut and paste shite and the mods ban anyone from bringing it up outside that thread. -

Most fans are just enjoying the season Some on here, who think they have a bit of nouse, just constantly doom monger and put Newcastle down. They were moaning pre season about us doing a Leeds and now that they havent got that to moan about they are moaning about next fucking season! I am sure come Next season they will quickly find something else to moan about if we start off ok. I'm enjoying this season but under no illusion what next season will bring. I'm still renewing like. Your optimism in Hughton and his ability to find worldclass youngsters and pay them a relative pittance is not grounded in reality imo. bingo. More idealistic nonsense on here. This time football related. Can you explain how my post is 'idealistic nonsense'? FFS. i think he's agreeing with you to be fair Impossible. I assumed he just hadn't read my post, as usual. -

Mate do you understand what we gave them? We basically gave them the basis of what we know as modern technology, for nothing. Go on then, elaborate on this if you can. I'm aware that we helped them out breaking codes (Enigma etc) and were involved (but certainly not central) to the Manhatten project, but what other technology did we give them? I'd think the German's should feel more aggrieved for having their rocket program nicked. It was Andrew Marr who told me. If he tells me it, then I believe him You can't even comprehend the ignorance of our own people Snakey, I can't. It's unbelievable, why do these people talk about subjects they know fuck all about, they genuinely don't know about the Tizard Mission. I saw the Marr show as well, couldn't remember the contents of the case (thought it was Enigma) - who would have thought cavity magnetoscopes were so important? And the Tizard mission was sanctioned by Churchill wasn't it? The man who on this very thread you have branded a hero? So we gave the yanks a bit of technology, in the understanding they would help supply us with everything from food to armanents. Seems like a fair deal to me. Stevie, you mock my orthodox viewpoints on this thread - but have you got any idea how ridiculous you sound on it? Do you think you are some sort of expert because you know what the Tizard mission was? Do you seriously believe this would make much difference to their own war efforts considering their overwhelming advantage in resources? P.S. Where are those other links you promised me? Been waiting months now for the Chicago/Japan one. Or direction to one of those 'well balanced' books you obviously read will do, cheers.

And add the ones about Japan being able to reach Chicago and the Russian Doomsday device while you're at it.

Mate do you understand what we gave them? We basically gave them the basis of what we know as modern technology, for nothing. Yeah, I knew that. That is a fact. We were trying to establish some sort of trust between us. Apparently the Americans were shocked at how much we knew in certain areas of technology. But we still went for a loan after the war. Sure of it. Shocked????? Our technology was like 3D Tellies compared to black and white portables in comparison to what those thick cunts had, and we just gave them it all away in one parcel on a boat which sailed from Liverpool. In one parcel? What the fuck was it, the Ark of the Covenant? I think you're referring to Enigma. In any case, why not just supply some links?

Correct. It's ironic I'm having to defend America so much considering how much certain posters have accused me of being anti-American or even a 'hater of the West'. Crazy that some people can't see the enormous contribution the Americans have made as well as the occassional balls up.
-
The Japanese were a formidable enemy as you know. Trouble is the American's are always getting involved in assymetric warfare - even now in Iraq and Afghanistan. If they were ever in a fair square go (e.g. Iraq 1) they'd pummel their enemy imo. This is down to their technology of course but fair enough I say.
-
True but the yanks are a very, very distant third in all of that. So far distant that you'd need a train to reach where they are. Russia and Britain won the war. Agreed us and the Russians took the brunt of it, while American war profiteering was rampant. The American people didn't even want to come into the war which says all you need to know about their commitment. Some Americans didn't. Have you two forgot the Americans had to deal with the Japanese ffs? They weren't a distant third by any margin, and we are endebted to them as much as the French are to us. You are a nob. That's all I need to say. Cheers. That reminds me, did you ever find any evidence that the Japanese could have taken the entire Western seaboard and mid-West of America if they had wanted to? Also if this is true, then the Americans did quite well in their war against them, didn't they? I'm sure you can find a link to the Russian Doomsday weapon while you're at it. You've got less evidence to back up your ridiculous opinions than Parky has man. And when you can't, its the usual childish insult routine with you. We owe the Americans as much as the French owe us?????? You are a disgrace, a clueless pseudo-intellectual. I'll reply properly later. Your letting your irrational dislike of virtually all other nationalities get the better of you as usual. What do you think would have happened to the UK had the American's stayed truly neutral - i.e. not supplied us and the Russians with arms etc (albeit at a price). We'd have been fucked. Then they lost thousands in Normandy and beyond fighting a war that wasn't even directly involving their continent - and helped liberate France amonst others. Do you not think they deserve a bit more respect for that? Because I do. As for this pseudointellectual jibe - what complete bollocks. I'm no historian but I know enough to know when you talk shite like this. You got the last bit right I'll give you that. We gave them all of the tools to win the war in the fuckin first place, for free, absolutely fuck all it cost them. You can't definitively say we wouldn't have won the war on our side without their rag tag army coming over anyway. Who's to say we wouldn't have mobilised people from other parts of the empire. America had the industrial might to arm us, and we were still fucking paying for it 50 years later. They are a disgrace of a nation, had we joined forces with Hitler we'd have taken America without doubt in my mind. We and our stance in world war two was utterly and convincingly pivotal in to which way the world went, and you your bollocks can say what you like, read balanced books on world war 2 and you'll see. I've always been interested in the second world war. Your viewpoint is utterly contrary to everything I've seen or read on it though, and there's a prevailing element of xenophobia in it. Tell you what though, direct me to some 'balanced' books and I'll take a look. Btw, none of this takes away anything that the British did which was simply amazing. We had to pay a heavy price though - the loss of our empire, and the Americans naturally loved this. But in a way they were right, the age of empires had ended - we just have found it hard to accept it - some more than others. As yours is to mine. 30m I've read yank troop numbers who joined the western front as numbering between 1.5m and 3m. Sizeable but no more than us. It doesn't take 28.5m to make a nuke as well. The American Army have suffered more defeats and embarrassments on their own than Sunderland AFC in 05/06. i knew you'd contest that....... .......let me see if i can dig it up. Why bother, Stevie hardly ever backs up anything he posts.
