  1. Aye, just like Real Madrid. I realise you're taking the piss but it's become the biggest load of bullshit in English football folklore that stability breeds success. It's the other way round but it's all predicated on one set of circumstances and a unique manager* at a massive club, i.e. Ferguson at Man Utd. The stability breeds success line is symptomatic of the absolutely shit and lazy levels of analysis amongst far too many journalists and pundits when it comes to English football. Which brings us back nicely to Paul Merson. *I know all managers are unique
  2. Even based on historical success it's a ridiculous argument, they won the European Cup in 81 but they'll have fans who are middle aged too young to remember that. Of their 7 league titles, only one is after the War (that's the First World War). And they haven't won anything at all for over 20 years. Chelsea have won about 15 major trophies (more if you include Charity Shields and the Uefa Super Cup) since they last won a trophy. Edit: Not to mention the fact they've won more trophies overall too.
  3. I read that too. It's not the law as such I suppose, it's the fact they're being directed not to sentence people like that to save money. Same difference like
  4. Fair enough if it had been Chop brown sauce.
  5. The stupid thing is, and I suppose Merson is thick as bull's lugs so it shouldn't come as a surprise, Benitez is good at getting results and getting the best out of his squads. He's not just some chequbook manager who just signs superstars. He's very tactically aware and pragmatic. Not to mention having loads of experience of managing in this country. The comments are just borne out of what he hoped would happen.
  6. Reminded me of this btw: http://www.lolfootball.com/paul-merson-quotes/
  7. Unless she was fit because that's the only time he would have.
  8. Considering luminaries like Paul Merson (who lets face it is not only very intelligent but also has an impeccable coaching pedigree) had written Rafa off in terms of being able to manage a side in this league then he is doing quite well I suppose.
  9. She's one of them ladies who lunch
  10. Aye, he's only got the polls and history to back him up.
  11. Who the fuck are the working class btw? It's been a redundant phrase in this country for decades
  12. And there isn't a PM in the last 50 years who wouldn't have followed the US into Iraq, sadly.
  13. It was Gerrard who said that btw
  14. You honestly think the political landscape is that predictable atm? I wouldn't rule out Labour winning under a moderate centrist leader by any means. The current shit show is only getting away with it because of the lack of a credible opposition. And talk about Labour's core support and the working classes ignore the fact neither have really existed for about 20-30 years in the traditional sense. But that still didn't stop abour winning 3 elections on the bounce. Revolutionary change is unlikely to happen and, in lieu of that, even a 'Blairite' for want of better term, is a far better option imo.
  15. I think you overestimate how much most people know about policies and underestimate the power of personality and being able to present your argument.
  16. He was on crutches on Saturday so he's still nowhere near
  17. I know, I mean what an absolute crock of shit
  18. Aye, they all shit their pants when the polis got on like
  19. I didn't even watch it tbh.
  20. Bouncing backwards I might add. Floyd Mayweather-esque
