it's going to be the sports direct arena as long as fat mike is around. we need to get used to that revoltingly tacky signage not going anywhere any time soon.
-
i doubt they'd be barred from pressers, more that ryder's sources within the club will dry up if they don't toe the party line. totally agree with the sentiment though. it's time for ryder et al to grow a pair and tell it like it is. i did like their front cover the day the stadium name change story broke.
-
i wonder if that's curtains for him getting the england job or not. shame if so.
-
they've never been more spot on.
-
I propose we hit Ashley hard and hit him fast with a major - and I mean major - leaflet campaign, and while he's reeling from that, we'd follow up with a car boot sale, some street theatre and possibly even some benefit concerts. OK? Now, if that's not enough, I'm sorry, it's time for the T-shirts: ‘Ashley Out’ ... ‘Sport Direct Direct - No Thanks’ ... and if that's not enough, well, I don't know what will be.
-
arsenal's move was all about generating extra revenue for the club. our move is all about generating extra revenue for sports direct.
-
abso fucking lutely jeff. been saying this all day.
-
I'm still seething me like. That's after sleeping on it too. Fucking furious. Any cunt that isn't cant call themselves a true Newcastle fan if you ask me. Why would the likes of Toonpack choose a tIme like now to defend the owners actions? Reading lame attempts at justifying this move is only increasing my rage. We get absolutely nothing at all from this other than humiliation.
-
about fucking time they stood up to ashley
-
agree with stevie about the 'sport direct is fucking shit' chants at the next home ground. a few rounds of 'we are st james park' or 'st james park will never die' would be nice too. i suspect mind it will mainly be abusive stuff directed at the FCB, which is fine too of course.
-
end of discussion. the st james's park name is important for all real fans of the club. it's difficult not to react to the WUMs over such an emotive issue. but that's football, your love for the club and its heritage is irrational. but i've got to say, even if we were being offered untold riches (which we're not), i'd still find it difficult to accept st james park being called anything else but st james'. the irony is, we're being offered fuck all. ashley's cheap sporting goods empire is the only thing that will benefit from this rebranding. yet again, he's served up another shit sandwich and the usual suspects are lapping it up.
-
It's not a choice though and it's as ridiculous now as it was when you asked it last night. The correct question to ask should have been, 'would you support the name change for £50m per season?' exactly, it would be marginally easier to swallow this if it meant the manager recieves a substantial cash injection to spend on players. this clearly isn't going to be the case. we will play in the sports direct arena until ashley finally manages to sell the club for a price he wants. and until that time, he'll continue the policy of buying cheap, selling high and we will continue to play in once famous old ground that now sound slike an american football venue. i'm just praying this cunt goes in a matter of years and not decades.
-
er, maybe you could explain what you mean by that. toonpack is suggesting that this rebranding might make us more successful. it won't. mate, if you honestly aren't seething about this. if you're really sitting calmy agreeing with the bullshit justifications for this move that lambias has come out with then your credibility has sunk as low as toonpack's in my eyes.
-
It's these ridiculous hypothetical questions that make you come across as a cock. Well, it's actually much more than that but it doesn't help. What's most important, winning stuff or the "transient" name of the ground (given it'll always be SJP to me). We wont be the last to try and do this. but this move isn't going to make us anymore likely to win anything so i don't know why you keep posing that question. more money won't be made available to be spent on players. that's obvious, even to an ashley apologist like you.
-
Not defending it at all, just don't think it's as big a deal as many make it out tbh. Would you rather we be crap and play at SJP or be half decent and play at SDA ? why does it have to be a choice? like all real fans, i would rather see us play well at SJP. let's be honest, the club won't gain anything from this re-branding excercise that will improve the team will it? there is absolutely no evidence at all to suggest that any money recieved for new sponsorship will be made available to spend on new players. there is no new money on the horizon anyway as long as the the current rebranding is in place.
-
toonpack, your defence of the ashley regime knows no bounds. this is a delicate issue. we're all seething over it and your comments, if you really believe them, are poorly timed and not at all in line with the consensus. all fans of the club care about the name of the ground and are appaled at this news. i repeat, if you really don't care about this. if you're happy to brush it off because it might lead to success in the future or because you and others might continue to ccall the ground by its true name, then in my opinion you are not a real fan.
-
I honestly did believe you were brighter than this. By linking the shirt deal with the toxic naming rights and quoting £10m for the privilege he's basically minimising the chance of anyone actually taking up the deal. Which means in a years time we will be wandering round with SD on our tops. You're going to mock me here but I think there's worse to come. Nov 11 - stadium name change to "promote the advertising potential" Feb 12 - Llambias blames fans for lack of transfer purchases & sale of Colo "your protests against name change is putting sponsors off" Aug 12 - no new sponsors therefore SD on shirts to "further promote the advertising potential". Oct 12 - Llambias blames fans for lack of transfer purchases & sale of Tiote & Cabaye "protests against name change is putting sponsors off" Feb 13 - Llambias blames fans for lack of transfer purchases & sale of Ba, HBA & Krul "your protests against name change is putting sponsors off" Aug 13 - Club announce they've been forced to add to sponsorship benefits. "have the strips in your corporate colours with your name on the front "amazing chance to fully sponsor a major Championship club for only £50m per season". Sports Direct step in and graciously offer to let use use Blue & Red as a showcase. Aug 15 - "On Sky Sports 7 today we have the clash of the titans, our new First Division coverage starts with a trip to the Sports Direct Arena as Sports Direct FC take on Brighton" meanwhile Football Club United Newcastle play their inaugural game against Hebburn Labour Club in front of a 30k crowd. I've made the statement & I stand by it. I will never set foot inside the Sports Direct Arena unless it is to take part in some organised protest, this is our club and our stadium it is not a corporate brand. It is Newcastle United FC @ St James' Park So you will be giving them the very excuse you state they need for all those things you predict. It is and always will be SJP, ignore it. Oh, and you'll never get 30K in Hebburn, it's south of the river, Newcastle can't be based south of the water, nee fucker'd go. Fuck off you cunt. I hate cunts like you. You mean hate people who don't cry at the slightest thing ??? Slightest thing1?!?!??!?!?!?! 130 years of history consigned to memory in one sweep. You fucking arsehole! Will the renaming of NUFC be a slight thing too. As I said last night it will never happen at Celtic or Man Utd. Imagine this "the Champions League Quarter Final between AC Milan and Chelse is live arfter the break from the Dominos Pizza Arena", it's as bad as what he's done. The two of them could spit roast your wife, "well I'm all for sanctioning positive feelings at boardroom level". You're a tit mate a fuckin tit. Consigned to memory, get a grip man, who amongst supporters (who are all that matters tbh) anywhere (except Sunlun for the wind up factor) is going to call it SD Arena. No-one who matters will. It is and always shall be SJP. Do I think what he's done is right, no. But it makes no difference unless you let it. You got over SD @ SJP, you'll get over this. Do you think Sky Sports and the BBC and the newspapers will be referring to where a game has taken place as SJP? You must be off your trolley pal, the whole world will think we now play at the SD Arena. I'd rather it was called the STD Arena than this. Kids will grow up, impressionable kids 8-14 and it will just be normal to call it the Sports Direct Arena, they'll grow wondering what the fuss is about SJP. He's done everything else you can do to strip a club of it's dignity, this is the worst, and the only lower he can go now is changing our colours and actually renaming the club. So what. If it works on the pitch, who cares. Up here, where it matters, it will always be SJP. If the team’s doing well and impressionable kids in Timbuktu, or elsewhere, think we play at SDA but buy shirts etc it doesn’t matter, IF (Big IF) that’s reflected on the pitch. What if we’d moved to a new stadium SJP would really have been consigned to memory as Highbury has been and Anfield or WHL likely will be. It’s all about the commercial stuff things these days, and new revenue streams, Man U (as you mention) don’t need to do it, they get tens of millions a year for a brand badge on their training kit FFS. If their money was tight don’t believe for a second Old Trafford would be sacrosanct. If you do you are naive in the extreme. (The Glazers have previous, albeit in a new stadium). Chelsea are already (and have been) looking at similar for a while. Would you trade winning something(s) for the name of the ground ?? (I would btw) On the wider front, he’s evidently after France’s biggest sports retailer, we’re currently “flavour of the month” in France, he ain’t daft is he. BUT for him to really use NUFC as a vehicle to maximise SD, NUFC has to do well on the pitch, which is all anyone wants, surely. What would you really prefer a deserted SJP and a struggling (plummeting team) or a succesfull team which plays at the SDA. Team colours and name would fall into my sacrosanct category by the way. He owns every atom of the club, it is his, he can, and will do what he wants. No amount of protests can change that, what they can change is the performance of the team on the pitch, in “Toonpack world” the team on the pitch is what the game is about. the toonpack world can do one
-
nope. it'll always be st james's for me
-
Toonpack this is something worth crying about and shouting about. If you disagree you're not a real fan imo
-
I don't think we minded all the gauche free advertising he's Plastered all over the ground. Obviously we'd rather it wasn't there but you can live with that. Changing the name of the ground is just sacrilege. It's different when it's a new ground. This is st James park and always will be.
-
You've all went (apart from PP, LM and me) "I can see where he's taking us here". Aye so can I, to a place he can make as much money as possible, while actually using us. As a business he's making us as an attractive a proposition for a buyer as possible, fine, but don't fuckin decimate and desecrate our heritage doing it. The word you used "defacing" the two stands, is perfect, that's exactly what it is. It's like someone getting a tattoo of a cock on their cheek, that's how bad it looks. Stevie man seriously have a word! Majority of people have commented that Pardew is due praise that wasn't forthcoming this time last year but you can count on one hand (with fingers to spare) the number of people posting on here who have a good word to say about Ashley - and even less about Llambias. I can't remember saying anything positive about Ashley personally. That goes for the majority of the board as far as I see it. Consensus is we're doing well on the pitch but off it, the owner is still a prize cunt. Shame innit. There was some good vibes building about the place for the first time in ages then he attempts another arse raping like this. I hate the fat cunt.
-
It'll always be st james park despite this cunts actiIons. The media didn't go along with it last time. I'm hopeful the likes of motd will still label the ground by its correct name. Sports direct arena ffs
-
i don't mind that actually. he's a decent bench warmer. you're not going to get a player who is happy to be 3rd or 4th choice much better than guthrie, or much cheaper. obviously it would be a concern if he was our first choice but he's not going to be playing week in week out and he's shown recently he can do a job on occasion.
