  1. good performance. they didn't steamroller us by any means. we had a good few chances, their goals were all down to silly mistakes from us. we didn't get hammered in the same way man u did against them.
  2. we've been fairly solid so far. keeping it nil nil till half time has to be the first target
  3. fuck me, we're going for it with this line up. good to see. i fully expect a defeat but why not go for it? go down with a fight at least
  4. always a pleasure to see the aussies having a mare
  5. You're a condescending little arrogant mug on a consistent basis, a spore of humility would show signs of massive improvement. I don't condescend anyone, most of the board doesn't neither. howay man, you're having a laugh there. just look at your posts about newcastle compared to other cities and other clubs. i know you're fishing a lot of the time but it's pretty hard to say you don't condescend people on here..
  6. Can someone explain to me why the countries that owe each other shed loads of cash can't just agree to square it off? Aye. Its national banks who have bought foreign government bonds. So the debt is between private banks in e.g. France and the Italian government. Therefore, Italy owes 'France' what Italy owes to French banks. The banks used customer money invested in different risk groups so who gets what back is complicated. Is that actually acknowledged publically though? I was under the impression, I'm in no way sure though, that that was a conspiracy theory of sorts. Similar to the one about the Federal Reserve being outside the sphere of government influence in the US as a privately owned super bank. FWIW on the debt crisis from an Australian's perspective it is rather worrying for me as well. If Italy can't be bailed out, which is fucked on a scale 100 times worse than Greece, due to the size of its economy and the whole 'too big to fail, too big to bailout' line of thinking, then the implications for the rest of the EU and everyone else are big. Germany and France could pull out of the Eurozone agreement basically hard fucking mainland Europe's economy, and taking the Euro currency down with it, which then has a flow on effect radiating out to Britain, the US, China and everyone else. Also, I read that the likes of Portugal, Ireland and someone else can't remember who, are on the verge of having their debt exceed their GNP which could result in a default on their loans, resulting in bailouts for all. I think thats why Germany are against bailing out Italy because since they are such a big economy a bailout for them would set a precedent by which many other smaller nations would put their hands out for similar treatment. In saying all that. I have my doubts as to whether this is a natural thing or is engineered for some greater purpose. No David Icke lizard people or evil Jew Rockerfellers etc. Chez. Do you know why the Bond markets seem to be so important as an indicator of whether or not a bailout for a country could become a possibility in the future? European government bonds were always seen as safe investments. Only the German bund is now really. The crisis is spreading. Spain and Italy are core economies in the eurozone. We're not talking Greece here, but they both looked fucked their bond yields are trading at unsustainable levels and spain's recent bond auction was a disaster. If one of those needs a bailout - and the market could yet decide they do - then we're fucked. There isn't enough money in the pot, not in any imaginable rescue fund - not even the IMF could bail out those two. The most likely scenario is a breakup of the eurozone - a two speed Europe with the core countries staying with the single currency and the periphery returning to their old currencies. That will result in global market chaos and when the shit hits the fan it will inevitably result in widespread civil unrest
  7. i'm about to buy a house on a massive mortgage. to say i'm a little concerned is an understatement. could be stuck in a three bed terrace for the next ten if a a second great depression finally forces london house prices to correct. jesus wept indeed at the leazesmag comment.
  8. The banking crisis has morphed into a scary debt crisis. I think we're heading for a second great depression that could take us years to recover from. The affects the potential breakup of the euro could have on us is frightening.
  9. walking is definitely the best way to get around manhatten. you don't miss anything then. but you do get a sore neck from looking up at all the amazing buildings.
  10. i really hope gosling doesn't start raylor is going to be massively exposed without jonas doing his protector track back role. i'd keep the starting lineup and formation as close to what has been so successful so far this season personally. we're almost certainly going to lose so we may as well give ourselves a fighting chance by using the system the players are happiest with.

i went just up the road to dahab as a student. loved it. cheap as chips, copious amounts of weed. i did get some dirty arab asking if he could buy the lass i was with mind. i think it was 20 camels he offered me. apparently a good price.
  12. i'm half watching the sweden game and i honestly couldn't be more bored with it. boring football, couldn't give a shit about any of the players. there's no romance at all with the national side anymore.
  13. ball retention is absolutely key in international football. for all the hype over our players, they don't do that well enough to cut it against the best sides. we haven't had a midfielder since paul scholes that was world class at keeping the ball. the likes of gerrard, beckham, lampard that have dominated our midfield for the past decade all give away possession far too cheaply. the hollywood 50 yard raking pass looks awesome when it comes off but it shouldn't be a stock ball.
  14. We have one of the richest leagues in the world, some of the best facilities and our players perform for top champions league clubs season after season. And yet when they get together for international tournaments they consistently under achieve to the extent that most football fans I know have lost interest. So why is the england team so rubbish? Over hyped players that aren't actually that good? Over paid players that dont care enough about the shirt? Fatigue after a long season? Lack of bottle? The weight of expectation combined with past failures? Crap coaching? Or a combination of the above? You tell me.
  15. it says something for our progress this season that we are even entertaining anything but a heavy loss here. man city have dispatched better sides than us this season and scored a bucketload of goals in the process. a draw would be a great result.
  16. He's not even that good anymore. I'd start with jagielka ahead of him
  17. Don't you work in the media and live in London? Aye but I work for an organisation where you dont get away weraing an ironic suit or glasses without lenses. Not for some social network startup in 'silicon roundabout' where the main job requirement is wearing women's trousers.
  18. this video sums it up pretty well
  19. sadly destined to go the same route as george best, probably at an even younger age.
  20. That's not what he said re-read the whole post and not just the bit you bolded up. he's talking about the paper reporting what's in the best interests of the club and the fans. remember, you in a minority of one with your views on here over the renaming. the majority of us want the chronicle to publish pieces that reflect the voice of the true supporters over this issue - fury with the owner's decision-making in other words. I read the whole post, the conclusion was what I asked for clarification of. As for the minority of one, how come ??? I don't agree with the renaming but it is/was utterly predicatable, what I took issue with was the amount of "damage" it actually would/could do, and its place in the greater scheme of things, in terms of damage/taking the piss out of fans. How many ever called the Exhibition Stand by it's changed name ? you are the minority of one because you seem to think it isn't a big deal. it is a big deal to everyone else. all real fans are spitting feathers over this move. the damage is permanent. he has shown complete disregard for the supporters by attempting to destroy a piece of our history. that will never be forgiven or forgotten by the real supporters. and pp is right to suggest the chronicle shares that line. renaming a stand is hardly the same as renaming the whole stadium.

  22. Toonpack, it's pretty obvious PP is talking about the chronicle taking a long overdue aim at the owners of the club and asking the sorts of questions the fans want answering for once instead of producing endless puff pieces. that should highlight the owner's lack of credibility without hurting the club.
