  1. i'd prefer hughes to redknapp. still; it's hardly the most ambitious appointment. i hope these rumours about us looking abroad are true. van gaal would be class imo
  2. redknapp is loving this like. he's probably got a massive pay rise out of it too.
  3. sounds like we haven't even approached him which is a shame given he's out of work and he might be tempted if we paid him a king's ransom and promised to back him in the transfer market. he still probably wouldn't have fancied it but it would have been less embarrassing to be publicly knocked back by him than redknapp
  4. the torygraph reckon we're looking we're looking at foreign coaches too so i'm not giving up all hope just yet. no offence to sparky - he's done decent jobs at rovers and wales - but i think a top foreign coach is the way to go. and if we can't get one of them i'd rather gamble on shearer than go for another bog-standard british coach.
  5. i'd like us make a brave appointment and at least try to appoint a top foreign coach like van gaal, hitzfeld or mourinho. but it sounds like shearer wouldn't accept a number two role....and if we did go for someone foreign, shearer is always going to be in the shadows. at this stage i'm starting to feel resigned to the fact that we might be best off offering shearer the job and getting it over with. things can't get much worse than they've been in the past week or so. it's a massive gamble like but we can't even attract the likes of redknapp and i'd rather risk it on shearer than give it someone like hughes.
  6. it's blatantly redknapp or one of his ilk. i want to know how come we haven't been linked with even one foreign coach? louis van gaal for example would have been a good option. why aren't we considering foreign coaches with experience of actually winning trophies?
  7. what would class us as a "big" club? the support and the finances, hence the quotes
  8. i think it's a dead cert. hope i'm wrong though. his missus might not fancy it but it's a bumper final pay day for the old boy (especially given we'll probably pay off a 4 year contract after about a year). apparantly he's one of the poorest paid premiership managers at present and it's probably his final chance of managing a 'big' club.

    Keegan

load of bollocks. Players win games. Not tactics. Go back to Championship manager. How many "tactical geniuses" have outdone Keegan ? Tosspot comments like this that you have made, make me laugh. surely it's a combination of players and tactics that win games? good players still need direction.
  10. good point. we don't want to jinx ourselves
  11. no telly confirmation as of yet but it looks a done deal
  12. at least it's not second choice steve. one positive to come out of all of this i suppose
  13. i was ridiculed for suggesting as much yesterday - http://www.toontastic.net/board/index.php?showtopic=17722 I can see your light, but not the one at the end of the tunnel. i'm floundering in the dark at the moment
  14. Sums it up perfectly. Leazes was right! Hasn't Ashley put £250m into the club though, reducing the debt etc? Pumping that much money into the club, you would have thought the managers being linked now would be of a higher quality like. aye. that's what's been the thing that's disappointed me so much. i thought he might try for a really big name and back him to the hilt but redknapp could be a shepherd appointment tbh

  16. I don't know much about spanish football in truth but is/was Ramos in terms of level in spain probably more akin to Allardyce/Moyes/Redkapp? nah; he won the uefa cup twice with seville didn't he?
  17. no but i've heard it's good. tignes is the daddy for snowboarding. loads of snow this year though so it will be nice and powdery wherever you go. have fun
  18. you couldn't make it up really. from sir bobby robson to 'appy 'array in 5 years via souness, roeder and big sam.
  19. Being positive as I can, maybe it short-term - 3 years max by which time, if all goes to plan, we'll appoint someone bigger and better once we're established as top 6 again. Don't see why Spurs can attract somone like Ramos but we can't, however. i'm waiting but i'm not massively charmed by what we're seeing so far
  20. come to think of it....can anyone think of any english managers other than sir bobby that have finished in the top 5 since harry did it for west ham in the late 90s?
  21. 61. fuck sake; it's hardly a long term appointment is it? bringing in shearer as his number 2 might be a masterstoke though as it could buy redknapp more time than sam was given. can't see him fancying it mind. redknapp is a nice bloke and he's always good value when he's interviewed but i don't see him taking us any further than the last fwe managers. shame because our new owners could have made a real statement of intent if they'd gone after one of the top men in europe.
  22. ... how funny that it's still bothering you
