If they're only paying half the going rate & with restrictions I think the likes of Benitez, Moyes etc are just a smoke screen for someone like Beardsley to step in. -

There'll be too many restrictions for Benitez to be interested he'll want to be a manager having full control over everything not a head coach. -

This from The Telegraph Quote The delay in sacking McClaren appears to have been caused by the fact the board wanted to meet to discuss McClaren’s future before a final decision was made, with Mike Ashley out of the country on other business. He has been kept in touch with developments, but is adamant he does not want to take an active role in the decision making, heaping pressure on Charnley to make the right call. Newcastle also want to make sure they have secured the right man to replace McClaren before pulling the trigger, as they do not want to be accused of making a panic appointment. That search continues and although The Daily Telegraph understands that Moyes and Benítez are the preferred options, Charnley has been contacted by the agents of several high-profile, out-of-work managers this week. However, all the potential replacements want to discuss the exact nature of the role with Charnley, as they are concerned about the amount of power they will have. They also want assurances about what will happen if the club are relegated to the Championship in terms of budget and ambition. Neither McClaren nor his predecessor Alan Pardew were in charge of recruitment and Moyes, in particular, is only willing to consider taking on the challenge of saving Newcastle from relegation if he is employed as a manager, rather than a head coach. That would mean a huge change in the way Newcastle has been run by Ashley since he bought the club in 2007. Nevertheless, the head coach experiment has not worked with McClaren and Newcastle, led by Charnley, are willing to consider a change in approach, in the same way Sunderland were when they appointed Sam Allardyce and scrapped the role of director of football in order to persuade him to take the job. The other major issue to be resolved with a new appointment is the wages on offer. McClaren earns around £700,000 a year, which makes him one of the lowest paid Premier League bosses, as was Pardew. All of those linked with the job would expect to be paid at least double that amount, given their pedigree and status within the game. There has even been a suggestion from those close to the process that Moyes could ask for as much as £4 million a year, which would almost certainly price him out of contention. Newcastle are willing to compromise, but it makes negotiations even more complex when they could be in the Championship next season, which would mean covering huge losses on player wages. -

Aye I think Benitez name is being mentioned to try & deflect how pathetic this situation is. As you say Stevie it's all about money there's no pride or dignity in it. It's similar to Pardew he would never have walked he wanted the big pay day (not that they were ever going to sack him) -

The outcome of all this is going to be disappointment. Dissapointment if he stays or dissapointment in his successor. -

We might be seeing the beginning of the end of Ashley's time as owner of NUFC if/when relegation comes. I just can't see him being interested as he has bigger fish to fry regarding SD. Plus the fee worldwide tv advertising will be stopped that alone must be worth a fortune. Also realising he's got a bunch of fools running the show all this added together might be just enough for him to sell up & go. -

This is a comment on The Mag it wouldn'tbe suprising 1. there is no plan B, relegation is the plan 2. 80 million for finishing in the bottom 3 will cover the transfer budget previously spent 3. 30 million parachute payment, straight into Ashley's back pocket 4. sell every worthwhile asset whilst in Championship leaving a threadbare squad to canter along til someone buys the club. -

They virtually begged McClaren to come. It's probably taking time as Charnley on his knees begging him to go. -

Agree totally 4 days to sack someone is ridiculous having said that these are the same bunch who have no contingency plan for relegation so it shouldn't really be a surprise. -

I also understand there is ONE standout candidate. You watch it'll be JFK "Bet you didn't expect to see me again" -
Lee Charnley January 2015 "We’ve had about 80 applications of people interested in the role. That’s people within football. “Clearly a number of those can be easily discounted but what has been left is a good number of individuals who have different qualities, experience and strengths – some of those are willing and available to come now, others not until the summer. “It’s not a case of someone getting the job because he’s a friend of a friend or he knows someone. It is a proper structured process which I believe will in the end give us the best individual for the job. “I know that the individual who comes in will be credible and best suited for this role"

Charnley will probably ring McClaren when he's on the training pitch to tell him he's sacked -

Would be quite funny if McClaren, Carr, & Brown Nosed Bob went to York tomorrow & came back & voted to sack Charnley -
So what can be done to try to make this right? There's a group of very well organised people who have tried a couple of times trying to try to get games boycotted & lead protests (ashleyout.com ). For some reason the majority of fans seem reluctant to participate with them or give them support these are the guys on our side who want the club out of the hands of these lot & ran like a football club should be run again. Yet there's this reluctancey I don't understand it we the fans hold power as well as was proved by Liverpool fans a few weeks ago with the club's proposed ticket price increase. I think the time has come to give the AO guys your support, supporting the club as it stands is hopeless as it's broken & needs rebuilding. The only way this can happen is by boycotting games & showing your complete derision for Ashley the same way he shows it to you. Surely they've got to be worth a go it's time to take our club back things can't be allowed to continue under Ashley. More than ever the club needs our support in fact it needs rescuing the way to do it get on board with the ashleyout.com group.

Last season 36 points would have meant Premiership safety if we use that as a rough guide for safety (obviously we don't know yet what's needed). We need 12 points from 10 games the games left are... My Pts Leicester (a) 0 Makems (h) 1 Norwich (a) 1 Southampton (a) 0 Swansea (h) 1 Liverpool (a) 1 Palace (h) 1 Villa (a) 1 Man City ? (h) 0 Spurs (h) 0 Before yesterday's prefomance I fancied us getting the 3 home wins against Makems, Swansea & Palace with the 3 away draws with Norwich, Liverpool & Villa making 12 points (just enough ?) But after yesterday's fiasco I don't think the majority of the players have the heart or passion to fight for the team & probably have one eye on the exit door. My points predictions sees us only picking up 6 points making a total of 30 points nowhere near enough & relegation will be certain. Does anyone else fancy putting up their predictions & seeing what they come up with?

Trooper Jnr went to his first game but he said he left after the second one went in. He said he "knew what was coming so went for the bus"

So sacking McClaren is the simplest option it won't change anything as long as Ashley owns the club. IF they were to sack McClaren they'd just hire another has been yes man manager to replace him. All protests, petitions, bedsheets need to be aimed at Ashley he said in THAT interview last year "the buck stops at my door". My opinion on McClaren still remains I never wanted him from the start but he's not the one to target just like his predsessors JFK, Pardew, & Carver were only part of the problem. There's one person ultimately responsible for this mess it's Ashley. -

There's an online petition to try to get Charnley to sack McClaren, yet again they're going after the wrong one. The petition should be to Mike Ashley telling him to sell up & sod off
