Errr...presumably because it would be a lucrative contract for that company? The real financial issue I spose is whether he'd award it to Umbro at an undervalue as obviously that'd be in conflict with the Toons interests..though I'm sure he could justify it to himself by arguing he'd therefore make more money available to the Toon in other ways. All speculation though and the truth is we'd never know for sure which deal was better. The only issue for me is the fact that Umbro make shit shirts. Adidas are hit and miss.....last shirt good, this one awful...one before that good, one before that ok....one before that good, one before that horrific...one before that good. I'd like to see Nike have a go tbh.

Can't argue with that tbf, but the only thing it neglects to mention is that dogs absolutely fucking stink. I don't know how people can share living spaces with some of them.

I've never read the books (and never intend to) but the films are fucking awful!

We should snap him up for £15 million tbh and then release him two years down the line for £1 million after a handful of substitute appearances.

Yeah the performance wasn't bad so the typical national team syndrome press reaction can be ignored as per usual. That said, the remit was to go there and get a result, so at the same time while it wasnt a bad performance, it wasn't what was required either and thats all that really matters at this level. His gingerness just makes matters worse.

Good balanced article from McIlvanney that. Gemmill will be seething in his Mickey Owen Toon underpants.

Toe-punt City, Arizona tbh.

Aye the Brazil 94 side played shit football compared to their forebears tbh but it was a necessary evil I spose from their point of view as it seemed they were just sick of the underachievement of the previous 24 years and had decided the approach was justified. Epitomised by leaving 16 year old Ronaldo on the bench....you could have seen a previous Brazil team using him. I hated Dungha in particular and was actually shouting for Italy in the final. Bulgaria were my faves from that WC. Anyone remember John Aldridge and Maurice Setters spazzing out at intervals in the heat for ROI?

No chance, I hope they lose and lose badly. They hate us with a passion and there's no way on this planet I'd want them to do well - my sister-in-law's a jock and she typified their attitude for me when she purposefully went out and bought an Argentina shirt when we played the dirty South Americans in the last competative match we had with them. It's nice to have the other 'home' nations in tournaments with us but I'd never support them. Yeah I accept all that tbh (although your sister-in-law sounds like a turbo cunt and needs a kick in the minge)....I'd say about 90% have the attitude you've described. I'm not that arsed though, I'd get behind them cos they're British and theyre underdogs at the end of the day....and if I want an angle in a game that I have no really stake in then I usually cheer for the underdog.

Ironically I loved USA '94. Just watched it as a spectacle, without any vested interest/inevitable gloom at England's efforts and it was a bit of a laugh. The fact that each game started gone midnight and there was some serious pre-match drinking time probably helped like. In actual fact I'm with Luke and his earlier comments. I'd be prepared for England to sit the Euro's out this time to force changes through. I'm fed up of being told we're world beaters, it's fucking laughable now tbh. I'd hate for us to miss out on a World Cup/scrape into a World Cup and give another shit account of ourselves and if there is any upside to missing the forthcoming Euro's it might just be that changes are made which put us on a better course for 2010. Strange isn't it? I loved USA '94 for exactly the same reason. I remember one cerazee student night where we were bonged to fuck with towels on our heads putting our full support behind Saudi Arabia who were playing Holland. We was robbed. Sima's right about the final like although a half-fit Baresi put in one of the best defensive performances I've ever seen. Quality! Yeah the final was as awful as the opening ceremony with Diana Ross. In fact she could have taken Baggio's penalty tbh. The tournament overall was awesome though and cracking entertainment value. Brazil finally got their act together after years, Saudi were immense as an underdog, Germany getting knocked out was beautiful, stand out performances from Stoichkov and Hagi for Bulgaria and Romania respectively, Maradonna was a complete carnival (and probably on more drugs than you) but still ridiculously entertaining....but overall the abiding impression for me was just how much of a privilige it was to see Roberto Baggio virtually carry Italy to the final singlehandedly. Abley assisted by Baresi as you say (always stood a chance with him marshalling things)...but they were average at best that tournament and Baggio just stepped up his game. True great tbh.

Good luck to Scotland mind you. I would be happy to get behind the Jocks come next summer so I hope they qualify....though that looks equally unlikely now I'm afraid.

Ah, I was thinking shops with 'mens fashion' and 'ladies fashion'. Is there any special streets we should look for? Regarding restaurants; The only criteria we have is that it's located in the centre of the city. Do you know any websites with restaurant-rewievs etc.? Cheers Geordie Jeans and Greggs tbh.

Could be worse like.... could throw a monkey into the sea. That's exactly the thing I was thinking of when I first read the post tbh. "Well not into the sea....he sort of bounced off a rock"

You just know SMO's boxing day post is going to be some cobblers about him and his pig spit roasting Rebecca Loos. Oh the irony.

I would love an introduction to him. Scarey stuff, the big bad bald comedian dishing the threats out Is Shinton bald like? Christ thats just made his jokes even more depressing/tragic.

How much of a cunt must you be drinking with to make you want to throw a cat against a wall tbh?

Never has been and never will be the sort of rousing anthem to preceed kick off. It's relaxing and soothing -the musical equivalent of the shrubbery which used to meander up the back of the old Gallowgate (which we needed in them days just to keep the suicide rate down). A relic of the 'it's local so it's got to be good' parochial mentality. If anything it should be reserved for the players to warm down to at the end of a match. -
Aldi furniture? Fucking hell man Smooth, where do you get your threads? George at Asda?

Bet Gemmill will be watching this one lying on his beach towel in his front room.
