well - it depends on what kind of external storage the drive is. the mybooks ive bought are usb only. but they also come in the usb and firewire variety which costs a little more. you can also get network attached storage (NAS) which is slightly more expensive again

The 500gb my books were £100 each.

my OS runs on a raptor drive and i'm gonna keep everything on these mybooks simply for storage. access times arnt an issue for me.
