Do you think it was his fault we didn't bring in any replacements? I think if the most important player at the club HE managers is sold, and he's told that he can't bring in replacements, that he should be making a huge fucking noise about it. Whether we got rid of Carroll or not, we needed a striker brought in. He agreed to let Routledge and Xisco go and brought in a lad who can't play a game for a month. He takes plenty responsibility for that window. You don't think Ashley maybe led him on or cocked up deals? Would you turn down a well paid job if you'd been out of work for a while? I can't honestly see Pardew agreeing to loan anyone out if he'd known nobody was coming in and Carroll was being sold. It's a load of bollocks. Carroll was the kind of player you get once in a blue moon and we got him for nothing. I'm all for being more careful who we bring in but they're dreaming if they think we can build a decent side when they keep cashing in.

In a way it's like the difference between Allardyce being manager and Keegan. For all the good there is in trying not to lose and trying to be smart about things, there's no substitute for looking someone in the eye, telling them they're the best player in the world and to go out and show the fans what the club means to you.

Excellent post. Mostly agree but.... Im not interested in getting into the whole Shepherd/Ashely argument because Shepherd had his problems/ issues/ whatever we want to call them and I agree with Mancy that he had ran his course. What Shepherd did bring to the table that Ashley has no concept of is the view that Debt can be reduced/ profits increased not just through cost cutting but increasing the turnover. Nothing Ashley has done since coming here could be argued as increasing the revenue of the club. All the thoughts on debt reduction etc are made by cutting corners which unlike a market stall often results in much bigger losses through the likes of relegation. This is the key point and it's depressing as fuck to watch it unfold.

Pardew is OK. With backing he isn't so bad as people think and could do a good job. However, is this you being blindly optimistic or pointing out how a good club should be run ? Believe it or not Leazes I've never disagreed with most of what you say and feel the same way as you on more things than not. Most people here are in that camp too. Shepherd/Hall were the first chairmen in my lifetime who've had the ambition to match the phenomenal support. The only thing any of us disagree with you about is the last few years of their time here when we were throwing borrowed money at mercenaries trying to get back to where we had been.

Pardew has impressed me with his ability to keep the b/s to a minimum and stay positive but look at Dogleash and compare how our fortunes have reversed.
