I think you have to look at what people are voting for in the States. It's personality Vs policy. Trump isn't getting votes by preaching fiscal responsibility, or shrinking government, he's getting it with bombastic speeches appealing to the worst instincts of disenfranchised (and dare I say ill-informed) voters.
