  1. The Fish

    Yesterday..

hangon a mo I'm under 25, single and earned over 10k a year and I get my tuition fees paid, the full loan and a grant of a thousand pounds. plus they gave me a keyring and a free condom.
  2. CD's Jeff Buckley -Grace. Just perfection, a glorious voice and one of the few artists that a man can still feel manly after shedding a tear to a track. Reuben -Racecar is Racecar Backwards. Young, fast, dangerous, rock, good, excellent t-shirts... just some of the words used to describe this group Soulwax -Two Many DJ's enough variety to keep you interested and mixing together real classics. DVD's Jerry Maguire fuck you, I'm a big jessy when it comes to this film and I don't care! Road to Perdition One of the top Gangster films of all time, can't fault it at all. The West Wing Series2 Favourite series from favourite tv drama show ever. Books nothing so luminary as any have offered so far.. but Are You Dave Gorman- Dave Gorman even though I've read it a million times and could probably tell you ever line it still makes me laugh. The Art of War- Sun Tzu only chance I reckon I'd get to read it all.. and I could draw diagrams in the sand to help me teach the hermit crabs.... The Bible- some Joker Cos if I find Jesus on the island he might know the way off?
  3. my parents did fine, school was shite, but parents did fine. the problem is Rob, parents aren't doing their job and until they do someone has to take responsibility.. the state is already doing it with ASBO's which is basically parenting by the state, so why not do it as a preventative measure rather than a punishment? I'd be happier if we could have social responsibilty ingrained into children from birth in the homoe, however far too many parents want to be their kids friend ahead of being their parent and with the increase of single parent families, the pressures on the main care giver explode exponentially. I know that there are drawbacks, but as a system it doesn't seem to harm the scandinavians too badly, as a people they seem to generally respect authority and seem healthier than you're average joe from Burmundsey. Schools are toothless they have neither the powers, nor the support of parents to actually educate the children in the ways of a socially responsible adult. How many kids do you know who learn to do housework/cook from their parents rather than their Domestic Science teacher? How many kids will do as their next door neighbour says, instead of giving him a mouthful and then hiding behind their equally inbred parent? Society is disappearing and rather than make a stand now, we seem willing to put it off and place it in the handsof the next generation. I know it seems like I'm just putting parenting inthe hands of the Army, but if you can't trust a guy to wire his own house why not get an electrician to do it? It's true that the army is not a babysitting service, but with grants and the potential to swell their ranks with men and women who have already been through basics they might not see it as a terrible chore and rather a golden opportunity. it doesn't neccesarily have to be the Army either, it could be a joint venture between Army/Navy/Air Force/Police/Fire Brigade/RNLI etc. It's my honest belief that the kids that are going through the schools now have little or no respect for anyone but the talentless fecks they see on televisionb, they buy into the myth of celebrity and would rather be famous than respected. While Dan brings up a valid point that those advocating this tend to be older but maybe this is because those of us that are older can see the way the kids today treat the teachers in balance with the ways our parents and ourselves interacted with them. National Service instead of ASBO's? I'd say that was a good deal it's like teaching kids about safe sex instead of trying to treat STD's just makes sense to me and as the current crop of parents (28-36) seem incapable of bringing up kids who are remotely useless to society, then someone has to take charge, if a it's a bloke with no neck and a nose that's been broken more often than a bustop window... then so be it.
  4. is left and up and down and wrong
  5. thing is Rob, we need to instil genuine respect for authority modern kids have had their "rights" explained to them in glorious technicolour, they know that teachers basically have no power over them, so they can get away with murder. They know that under a certain age they can commit crime and get away with it, they know that their teenage mother will back them up all the way and not actually punish them for bad behaviour. if the state needs to bring up the kids, because the parents are incapable, then so be it, boot camp the lot of them. I for one think I would have benefitted from a stint in such a place, certainly I would have a idea of how best to stay fit and be a little more self sufficient. I might even have learnt how to pay respect to those in authority.
  6. you see I wouldn't use it as a punishment, I'd make it mandatory.
  7. you mention that it is not nice when you spend all day doing something and somone comes along and destroys it. Can the same not be said for the effect of being on the receiving end of harsh boot camp discipline? It's not nice and the only alternative is to actually do as you're told, and that when you do as you're told you not only avoid punishment, but you also gain respect and trust. we might even see a gentle improvement in the general state of health for many of the youth, it's a fine way to instil good habits, like eating a balanced diet (I'm talking meat and two veg not haute cuisine) and regular exercise. I for one can see few social drawbacks, but of course I have no idea as to the cost in terms of monetary, infrastructure and beauracracy... But I'm no law maker.
  8. yes absolutely bring back national service ensure that it is for everyone, and not just the lower classes though. this whole thing about "Teaching chavs how to use a gun" is a little pointless as the purpose of National service is not to arm idiots, but to educate the youth about social and national responsibility, to educate them in the ways of respect and reciprocity. so yes National Service should return and the sooner the better it might even have the added benefit of re-instating some sense of national pride into the youth of today, rather than the apathetic attitude that plagues our nation.

  14. gimme a good guitar band any day of the week. Engerica... watch this space
  15. surely Everton, Tottenham, and Villa should feel the same wrath? It's not like any of their fans are realistic about their clubs ability?
  16. when immigrants enter the country they should be arbitrarily divided between the nation, simply put, do not permit the creation of Ghetto's the few people of different ethnic backgrouns that live in my area are entirely integrated, not because we're all some kind of new age hippie commune, but simply because those families of different ethnicity were forced to mix with the rest of the community. the first time we even Realise that Altan was different was in High School where the R.E. Teacher was discussing the subjects for the year "We'll cover all the religions, from chritianity to islam" and on islam, pointed to Altan... He was visibly shocked because a) she blatantly segregated him from the rest of the class and she assumed because of his skin colour that he would be muslim and most importantly c)failed to notice the crucifix he wore about his neck... integration won't work now, too much time has passed and there are definite ghettos in so many cities and towns that it is the "norm" rather than an anomoly
  17. I suffer from similar snobbery when it comes to music, I am one of these idiots who tramp around the country to watch the "next big thing" but tire of them as soon as they release their second album, declaring that they've sold out to fat cats and have lost the essence of their music. it's all pretentious bollocks like, I just like to be the cool guy who knows all the new bands before anyone else.
  18. but it's a little odd to be mocking a team that are not rivals about failing to get into Europe... I didn't see any threads dedicated to Spurs failure to acheive European competition, or Birmingham... or Blackburn... but lets not let facts get in the way of a nice sweeping statement eyh?

  21. should read the following paragraph for explanation ok well mooshine is an alcoholic beverage and I've bought a four pack to have with chicken drumsticks that I had doused in Jamaican Jerk sauce, so that with the seasoned potato wedges were the spicey lunch that I just ate... which required alcohol to quash the flames in my throat
