  1. Are you a fan of the comic who is disapointed with the adaptation or do you just think it's a bad film? From your other coments about violent films this doesn't sound like something that would appeal to you.
  2. Leatherheads 5/10 Clooney trying to do a Carry Grant screwball comedy but not really succeeding. Watchable but that's about it. Omega Man 6/10 Preferred I am Legend as it seemed to make more sense than Zombies having a leader who thinks he's a new Christ.
  3. Very average on a couple of listens to me. Just re treads of stuff they have done much better before. And this coming after two albums that I thought were also very weak. I agree with NJS that I would just much rather listen to their old stuff but I would argue that the experimentation of Zooropa and Pop actually produced some of their best stuff and was the last time they were interesting. Unfortunately like many other elder statemen in music (Weller leaps to mind) they've reached their creative peak years ago and are now on cruise control.
  4. Bolt - 8/10 Very much in the same vein as Toy Story (ie Odd Couple, heroes quest, one unaware of the truth about their life) but what it doesn't have in originallity it makes up for in action and comedy. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Before Sunrise - 7/10 Nice little romance. Porco Rosso - 7/10 Not up there with the best Ghibli I've seen but fun all the same.
  5. Sorry, that's an unbelievable statement to make, what's the point of even going to football matches if you'd settle for a loss before a ball is kicked? I said before the match (not on here) that I expected that it would be a narrow victory to ManU - probably 1-0. I've noticed drubbings don't normally come at NUFC when you most expect them. I also said in some ways this would be the worst possible result for us because it papers over some huge cracks. I'm sure Ashley feels vindicated now and will stick with the management regime until the end. Maybe, just maybe, he might have tried to change things if we were tonked. Probably not like. I have no doubt in my mind our better performance last night was down to the players lifting themselves for the big occassion rather than anything Hughton did. I've also no doubt we'll revert to type come the Hull game, which is now arguably our most important game in years. Also I notice people are saying we were unlucky not to get something because of Ryan Taylor's blunder. Sorry, but I think that's bollocks. Firstly, our goal came from a highly unusual blunder from Van der Sar where as Taylor's mistake typifies us. Secondly, we were playing flat out in 5th gear at 6000 rpm whereas I don't even think they were in second gear. If they'd needed another goal, they'd have got it, simple as that. Agree that the players as usual lifted themselves for the big game but will likely be back to normal for Hul, and this is the problem, last nights efforts would see us comfortably win games against all but the best teams, that level of performance would have hammered shit teams like Bolton. Don't agree with the end bit though, manu don't just swan around taking it easy, they play to win at all times, and also we were playing bloody well at times, so it wasn't a case of if we hadn't gifted them a goal they would have got it as and when they needed it. They might be the best team on the planet but they're not invincible and not always at their very best, and if we hadn't givent them that goal we had as much chance of a draw as they did in that game, in fact i could easilly have seen any of the 3 possible results happening. Look at ManU's record this season and particularly recently. How many games have they won by the odd goal? It's not all down to chance and they are about as near as you can get to an invincible team. For all our improvement we lacked clear cut chances imo, so did they but I'd really expect that to change if they needed it to. Anyway, it's all moot now, we just have to hope the performance can lift confidence which we can then translate into results where it matters. Two years ago under Roeder we had a must win game against Sheffield United which we won 2-0. The game against Hull is even more vital, looking forward to it with a sense of dread and excitement, come on you bastards! Martins had a very good chance to make it two nil and would have had another had it not been for Vidic's foul. Taylor and Enrique also knocked a couple of excellent balls in that if we'd had a goalscorrer like Owen on would very possibly resulted in a goal. They didn't create a lot of other chances either so I don't understand how anyone can say that if we hadn't gifted them the goal they got they would have just scored another. I agree they are a class team and always were likely to win but I can objectively say we matched them last night and deserved at least a draw. If I wasn't being objective I would say Vidic should have been sent off for his challenge on Martins Anyhow I hope we have showed ourselves just how well we can play and put in something similar against Hull and for the rest of the season. However I fully expect us to go back to normal as soon as. But it was nice to come away from a game not feeling pissed off and embarassed at how shite we are for a change. Shame it was such a shitter to see the Hull and Stoke scores.
  6. If we could keep it to two I'd be content given the squad of players there is to pick from and the people doing the picking!
  7. It's a poorly written piece on the back of a poorly written email. The worrying thing is that the way both were done only deflects attention away from the extremely worrying shit that Labia came out with.
  8. The Duelists 6/10. Ridley Scott's first film and usurprisingly it looks very good but the story and characters were pretty thin. Donkey Punch 6.5/10. Pretty predicatble stuff (you can tell who's going to do what and how it will all end up pretty quickly) but along the way it manages to avoid a lot of the usual cliches. The lad with the lip like Joaquin Phoenix is a bit annoying though.
  9. Was reading about this last night and apparently some press have seen up to 40 minutes of it so far and it looking impressive. I had no hope for this after the weak third film and McG being named as director but Bale getting on board along Johnathon Nolan and Paul Haggis having a hand in the script (apparently Bale told them to fuck off after reading the initial script) has given me hope that they might actually make something out of it.
  10. Was more of a chip to the back post than a cross. Good ball though. Martins should have scored. Jonas' crossing / shooting is reminiscent of Dyer's imo. I.e. weak as piss. Which again begs the question, why are we playing both him and Lovenkrands/Duff on their wrong foot? None of them are fantastic crossers of the ball with their best foot so forcing them to either check back inside or have a swinger with their wrong foot can't help. And none of them can shoot worth shit so having them come inside is worthless too.
  11. Apparently he's going to play Nelson Mandela in Eastwood's new biopic. Should be good.
  12. Changeling - 8.5/10. Better than any of the films that were up for best picture this year and much better than Slumdog. I can only think the Academy must have just thought they can't give Eastwood another best picture but it would have been well earned. Nearly 2 & 1/2 hours long but it never drags and it looks fantastic. With this and Gran Torino, Eastwood is showing he's at the very top of his game.
  13. I think I may have mentioned before that Bruce is a cunt who I hope never manages this club. Better manager than the clueless old man we have at the minute but still shite.
  14. Only produced by Michael Bay's company, was directed by the bloke who co wrote The Dark Knight I think.
  15. WTF? Owned by the richest bastard in the world (almost) and we're giving them our best player on tick? GENIUS!!! As if it wasn't bad enough letting them have him for less than we got for N'Zogbia. How the fuck do these clowns manage to get the money they did for Milner and N'Zogbia (and the Rozehal and Emre fees may have been pretty decent too) and then give our best player away. How much do we think it would have cost to buy a comparable player to Given if we hadn't had Harper? I bet we would have had to spend a lot more for a far inferior player!
  16. Earlier on in the season with Martins and/or Owen ahead of him he always looked much more capable of producing a good pass to put someone through or at least in space in a decent position. I do think the lack of mobility up front recently would hurt anyone.
  17. Maybe it's just me but Milner seemed to waste more good crossing oppertunities than Jonas. While I agee Jonas's crossing isn't anywhere near great, I can't remember many occassion where I've been really pissed off with his poor crosses because I've never seen anyone in good positions to get on the end of them anyway. Jonas's crossing is of course being hampered by being played on the left where he is always either on his wrong foot or having to cut back inside. I think it was better in his earlier games on the right and I see no sense in playing Duff or Lovenkrands on the right with Jonas on the left. Milner also lacks the pace to get away from the man when he has beaten him which is something Jonas can do and in general I think Jonas's pace adds more to the team than Milners trotting. Milners shooting while a bit hit and miss is still much better than Jonas's and it seems obvious to me that Jonas has no faith in himself in that area (of course you only had to look at Jonas's record before he arrived to see he was never going to be a big scorer). Overall I still much prefer Jonas. Maybe it's because I was always disapointed with Milner from the start or maybe it's because Jonas is the only player who's seemed capable of lighting up what has been a very dark season for us.
  18. With the squad we have now less Owen & Viduka (and probably Martins) and a maxim of say £15m (assuming this £5-£10m evens out at about £7 and we get something similar for Martins) we will go down. That much money won't be enough to replace what leaves let alone fix what's already wrong with the rest of the team. There will be no forward movement from this lot next season. Let's prepare ourselves to be the new Leicester City or Nottingham Forrest. Cunts.
  19. With his gut he'd be a big player for anyone. On a serious not though I personally think he's finished. The last few times he's played he's looked fucking awful, barely able to move at all. He's made Shola look like Bellamy. Came here with a big reputation... And an even bigger arse?
  20. Would be quite keen on seeing this myself if I were somehow able to get a copy.
  21. Can't think of anything worse than losing my kid so my heart definitely goes out to anyone who suffers such a tragedy.
  22. With his gut he'd be a big player for anyone. On a serious not though I personally think he's finished. The last few times he's played he's looked fucking awful, barely able to move at all. He's made Shola look like Bellamy.
  23. Good news for me since I would be renewing anyway but the whole 'you must renew before you find out which wonderous players we are going to sign' thing is criminal. Also if we do go down this decrease will certainly not be enough and they may need a rethink.
