5 Non Newcastle things that would make me happy this season

Yeah and problem? Iv always had a soft spot for liverpool, and im not one to jump on then "il go for the obvious gunners" bandwagon to win the league! -
Wouldnt mind Jimmy Bullard here tbh
-
I never said it was mate just will need to be looked at, beye is 30 so 2-3 years at most left in him. Geremi is gash, apart from that we have no natural cover. By no means a priority but gotta be on the agenda for the new guy

Its pretty unanimous that Taylor is'nt well liked on here, im probably one in the minority that still thinks he can develope into a quality CB, with the experience of playing alongside Colo he can only improve, and like i said, once we have climbed the table and there pressure is less he will go from strength to strength. I understand peoples point that Enrique should start ahead of bassong for his long ball ability, but ahem i dont want my FB to be playing long balls, i just think Enrique defensively isnt all that, its just my opinion but im much more impressed with bassong at LB and as i said in th OP should bassong develope his attacking side of his game he would certainly be my 1st choice LB for years to come. Bassong could and would probably do well at CB but im just not really into a totally foreign back four, and i genuinly do have faith in tayls and colo, so too has JFK and KK did too, and im pretty sure the next guy inthe hot seat will stick with Tayls and Colo too. The main problem to me is LB but iv thrown my 2p in. I think it was OzToonFan who said last night we need to find and blood a new right back? I agree, but who? Gunter at Spurs?

The back four in any team is the foundations to build a quality side upon. I hold my breath when i say this but i honestly think potentially we have a good back four although we do lack depth. Currently it isnt all that, and i say this because we havnt been able to keep the same back four consistently for 10-15 games or so, this amount imo being the minimum it takes for to build a solid understanding positionally and mentaly. In a top side, or a side with no "behind the scenes" problems, a side who only needs to worry about the football you may see a back four gel quicker and easier, but in our side which is submerged in uncertainty beyond the hallowed turf, is it not understandable that mistakes are going to be made and it will take longer to get the understanding and consistency needed. I think so. Ideally we would have a back four full of fully developed, iron nerved individuals, but as it stands we have maybe two fully developed individuals, one of which is still adapting to life in england and english football. The other being our best defender we've seen in a black and white shirt in recent times. Then we have three potentially quality defenders to join the two already developed and experienced lads. Taylor, Bassong, Enrique. Taylor gets alot of stick, far too much imo but its only my opinion. Some of the stick is justified, the rest is magnified. He has the ability to be our JT our no nonsence "hav it" centre half. He has shown these qualities for years, but these are sometimes overlooked by his lapses in concentration and sometimes his tendancy to do something stupid. What we have got to remember is, this is a young lad who hasnt had a real mentor or a consistant partner at the back until coloccini this season. I personally feel that he is starting to develope a good understand with colo and in time he will hone his ability and rub out the tendancy to leave a leg dangling or sticking an arm out. He certainly is not as bad as some make out Bassong has looked very impressive this season, and lookes to be a bargain at what we paid for him. Solid in a tackle, comanding in the air, composed and reads the game well not to mention his distribution has looked pretty decent too, my only fault with his game atm is that he does not get forward enough and support the guy infront of him. Some say he is a CB, maybe, but i think he could develope into a quality LB should he learn to get forward more. Everyone knows a good LB is one who can bomb forward and defend in tandom. Enrique again is not as bad as some make out and agree in the sense that he has unfairly been the scapegoat at times. Not to say i dont in part agree with the criticism. He is at times shite on the ball, he does at times looked panicked and flustered and he is sometimes prone to getting caught ball watching. But in his defence, again he is young, he is learning and he is still adapting to the premiership. Iv no doubt he could be a good LB in the futur, but if we are looking for a natural defender id be more confident in going with bassong at LB. I add to this that i think cacapa is shite, should be released in january, but only, and i reiterateONLY if we can get one or two experienced CB's in. Another plus is we have the likes of the young tozer and kadar not to forget edgar who can make the step up into the side, but only when the ship is water tight and sailing. As it stands id stick with Beye Coloccini Taylor Bassong Id use geremi as back up for Beye until end of season when he'd be replaced, Edgar and Cacapa as back up to Tayls and Colo until January, and use enrique sparingly with bassong. The back four above may not be established YET but i honestly think that if we can pull ourselves out of the shit, we might just see this back four develope into a solid foundation for us to build upon.

Me too! Dont get me wrong he is a decent fullback but he doesnt fill me with confidence, performances alone, bassong starts ahead of him IMO Thats the beauty of this forum though, everyones got an opinion.

Thought it was a pretty good header actually But i agree on the whole, for a big lad he's wank in the air!
-
Why? Im quite happy with barton and butt or barton and guthrie Can he play CB?

Alex my marra... Your defence of a defender who cant defend is undefendable

Taylor is average. But if he was there Coloccini would not have had to react to Cacapa going to ground. Apart from that being speculative to say the least, Cacapa was fouled and he didn't 'go to ground'. Without speculation this would be one empty forum. My point was that Taylor would not have been so easily dismissed. I didn't say Cacapa wasn't fouled. I'm disappointed with his performance in that situation and his overall performance in the game, particularly as most of the rest of the team had pretty decent games. We obviously have better players than Fulham, so not getting anything in this match hurts given our position on the table. Kinnear is going to cop a fine for his comments. My point was Cacapa didn't go to ground for the penalty. His overall performance wasn't great by any means but the penalty was in no way, shape or form his fault so I don't know what you're on about there regarding that situation. How can you say that cacapa wasnt partly responsible for the penalty? Was he fouled? Some say yes some say no...come on, one one hand we complain because the refs are taking the physical side out of the game and on the other at times when it suits us its too physical...Bullshit, cacapa wasnt fouled, he was turned inside out, he turned the wrong way and was too fucking slow to recover. His useless positional ability had us in trouble all night and yes it was coloccini's foul for the penalty, but he would of had to do that had cacapa not fucked up. And still we have the little rays of sunshine on here complaining about taylor, HE WASNT FUCKING PLAYING...I think he is grosly mistreated by many on here. No he is not world class, but he is decent, and had he of been playing last night, that would NOT of happened imo. Of course he was fouled Thats the best you can do? Come on mate your better than that! That was NOT a foul, he's just shit What else do you want me to say? How is a push in the back not a foul? A push?? Watch it again mate and tell me cacapa wasnt flat footed and as lightweight as a feather in the wind pal
-
Aye he would probably have halfed Johnson in two conceding a penalty before Colo had a chance to get near him.... Yawn

Pretty much what i just said, you beat me to the punch haha I still for the life of me cant understand why Bassong didnt play? He has match fitness and minutes under his belt this season and he has looked solid in EVERY game he's played. So why oh why stick a useless, rusty, slow and old washed up Brazilian porn star lookalike in our back four? Fucking clueless man!!
