Different eras though, it's like comparing Messi with Pele. I think everyone knows Messi is better but it was played at a different pace then. There was a keeper about 90 years ago called "Fatty Foulkes" apparently he was one of the best around at the time and he was 23st.

The first keeper I can really remember was Gary Kelly, he was very good but 5ft8, and his kicking was poor. We've had Pavel, Burridge, Tommy Wright, Shaka, Harper and Krul largely since then and none of them come close to Given. No where near in fact. He was the second best keeper in the country behind Schmeichel at one point. So many games he played games I don't think anyone else could. The 5-1 home defeat to Liverpool it would've been 15 but for him. A 1-1 draw at Sunderland where he made the best save I've ever seen, and a 3-2 win at Tottenham where we got battered for 90 minutes. Legendary performances, and irrespective of what he is now, he is for me the best keeper we've ever had, and WITHOUT A DOUBT the best keeper we've had in my time supporting the club.
