Shearer will only take the job on the condition that there are significant funds for transfers available imo. I would think anyone serious enought to offer Shearer the job would give significant funding to start with at least. As for O-Nut's point about him taking his coaching badges to go into management, I'm sure that was an option he's always considered. He does seem very happy with the life he's got right now though, I suppose we'll find out how much he really wants the job if the offer comes.
-
I'm still not convinced he'll take the job if offered tbh. I think he might make a good manager but nothing's ever guaranteed in life. If City go for Mourinho next year, Mark Hughes would be a smart choice as well.
-
Let's see what happens tomorrow then. I'd be surprised if Sunderland with their "stronger" squad get anything better than a draw. I think they'll do well to get that tbh, and I'm not joking. They are shit in front of their own fans and will probably be bricking it, while our team is on the up and will be relishing this one.
-
Joe was a very canny short term appointment but that's all it should be IMO. I've always liked the bloke though, if he steadies the ship here - which I'm sure he will - he should be set for another decent job somewhere. Good luck to the fella.

Hmm...... invest more than his massive £0..... I don't see how he could. Don't forget the moving feast that became the debts. Ashley must be the daftest billionaire on the planet. I really think he is just a bit fick. Anyone that thinks they can sell a club for £480m that they bought for £234m (which was overpriced) and then borked beyond the impressive borkitude of the prior regiem, I wonder if they can spell their own name. It just shows that success (financial) is probably 90% luck. It's so unfair Parky. You just never got the breaks...
-
I think he is talking about prospective bids and serious interest rather than actual bids in the article.
-
The LMA will always back one of their managers if he has some sort of a case, that's the whole point of their existence. That doesn't necessarily mean his case is strong enough to win, just that it's worth a go.
-
If he's got a case for unfair dismissal, he's got a case for unfair dismissal. It's as simple as that really. I don't really see why he should walk away from a load of money if that is the case. Given most of the fans back him, I don't see the problem in it. And I presume you're on the wind-up as usual but anyway, you seem to want it both ways. On one hand we're the deluded ones who put Keegan on a pedestal and yet you're suggesting he shouldn't take legal action purely of the fans. I don't really think he's got much of a case tbh. If he has and he wins it good luck to him.
-
I disagree with you there. He had such a good relationship with the fans BECAUSE he understood them. He would say what he felt and told us the truth. If he feels we don't have a right to know what happened in order for him to take a payout from the club then I'd argue that greatly tarnishes his reputation. Of course he feels that he was mistreated by Ashley, but over the last few months, he's not been giving us the whole story and now he's not saying anything. If and when the club is sold, he would more than likely have been reinstated on a good salary. Now it seems he's more concerned about this payout. I wouldn't be surprised if he finds it harder to walk back into the club than he may have thought. Based on what exactly? I'm not sure what you mean. If you're referring to the fact that this story isn't necessarily true then fair enough. I'm basing my opinion on speculation that this is what he's doing. For the last few months everyone on the board was taking a "the press are just stirring" line when in reality a lot of what they were saying was true. If you're referring to my opinion that he might find it hard to walk straight back into a job that he left without a single word then I stand by it. I'd have loved to have seen him continue the good work he was doing, but what if Joe Kinnear gets results. What about the players he said he didn't want? What about the people who trusted every word he said over the summer? My heart still wants him back but as time goes on, the reality is that his automatic return seems more and more arrogant on his part. Like many have said here, Gullitt just upped and left. No messing, no compensation. A long protracted legal battle doesn't benefit anyone apart from Keegan if he gets his payout. Red herring wonderland. It could be that Keegan is just keeping legal action as an option in case Ashley threatens to sue Keegan for walking out, as there was a £2m penalty for doing so. If that's the case I would back KK 100%.
-
Yes...he should take us for every penny he can get. He deserves it after all. Ruud Gullitt was such a mug for not getting hsi fair share of the NUFC cash cow really. People praised Gullit for walking away with nothing and slaughtered both Souness and Allardyce for hanging around for massive pay offs, but because it's Keegan they think he should take the club for every penny he can get. Laughable. No.. it's not because it's Keegan it's because of the terms of his employment. It could have been anybody in his position and I'd still maintain they'd have a right to follow the legal path. The three names you mentioned all left on the grounds that they were not good enough. Keegan left for entirely different reasons. Doesn't change the fact that Gullitt could have screwed us for cash if he wanted. He didn't because of his pride and honour. I will always respect him for that if nothing else.

I don't think so, it's just not a Keegan worship fest since he walked out. Most of those who question him at least make their case. You've never told me what he actually did wrong. Apart from refuse to continue in a club where he had NO say of needed strengthening and his best players were attempted to be sold behind his back. Other than that what did Keegan do wrong in his time in charge here? As far as I can tell nothing, and the number of current Premiership managers that would have put up with the "structure" he was being forced to work under numbers very, very few (maybe none). But yes, for those that remember him (as a NUFC player and manager he does deserve some respect and frankly some ). I didn't say he'd done anything wrong I just said that there's an alternative point of view held by some members over there (not mine necessarily). It's like some people like chips for their tea, others like Gemmill who has sensitive gums probably prefers mashed potatoes. Different strokes for different folks and all that. Yup you either love Keegan or...... you're wrong. I actually do love Keegan so I'm right anyway With Shearer though I never really got him tbh. I'm not really sure what he's done to deserve his legend status at Newcastle other than be a record signing geordie. Keegan doesn't really need to say he loves Newcastle, it's obvious. When Shearer says it, it looks like he's reading from an auto cue. he really is a smug twat IMO. With all respect. Those 206 goals perhaps? I thought we played better stuff the season before he signed. After he arrived everything seemed to centre around him and because he wasn't as quick at Newcastle the team play slowed down. The exception to this was when for a couple of seasons under Robson he had flyers like Dyer, Bellamy and Robert around him. Quick couple of points. Take Ferdinand out of the side the year before Shearer arrived and replace him with Shearer and we'd probably have won the league now. Ferdinand was class for us, don't get me wrong, but his form tailed off when it really mattered imo that season. I think Shearer was a better allround player then and mentally stronger. We might not have played as nice a brand of football the season Shearer arrived but that was because KK insisted on playing Ferdinand and Shearer, meaning Beardsley and Lee played deeper. The football wasn't as good but it probably could have been at least as effective. If things did centre around Shearer after he got his injury and slowed down, then that isn't the player's fault. Also you point out that he needed pace around him but he made the likes of Bellamy and Robert look good too by being such a high quality focal point for the attack. I think he went on a season or two too long btw. Decent post as usual, I think there's some merit in what you say about what would have happened if Shearer has come in instead of Ferdinand. It wasn't just Ferdinand's form that tailed off though, people like Rob Lee stopped scoring as well. For me Shearer was at his best a couple of years before he came to Newcastle, when he was virtually unstoppable. Amir Zaki reminds me of a young Shearer in the way he runs defenders ragged. Shearer wasn't as mobile for us as he was at Southampton and Blackburn, but he was still quality as far as touch and finishing goes. Maybe the various managers he played under didn't put the right players around him, it's a possibility. I realise it's not the popular view but I don't consider Shearer a hero, I don't really like him tbh. This is just my personal view, if everyone else in Newcastle wants to consider him an icon, build statues or name bars after him by all means knock yourself out. He's shit on MOTD as well by the way. -

is he being serious? it's hard to tell on a forum He is you know. i dont think he is, surely noone can be that much of an idiot I was going to mention Shearer, goals and open play as opposed to dead ball situations but fuck it, why bother? Shearer + local hero = legend. If you are happy with that then great. you can't say this, then turn around and castigate them for setting high standards - which is why Keegan walked and possibly why Shearer doesn't want the job. If you are happy with a 2nd rate club, then great for you I've got greater faith in Keegans ambition than Mike Ashleys, thats an absolute no brainer. I agree with you -

I'm pretty sure Shearer is happy he didn't take the job given the lack of funds and interference from others. Had we been taken over by some oil-money multi-billionaire I reckon he would have been a lot more interested. Shearer isn't stupid and knows how to get the best for himself and was imo too afraid of failing to take the manager's job just yet. Edit: The same goes for Keane, he wouldn't have went near Sunderland unless he was guaranteed the money to take them forward and I'd say that this delay in him signing a new contract has a lot to do with the funds that will be made available to him. Why do you think Shearer turned down the chance to work alongside Keegan? Not wanting to play second fiddle maybe? -

Well if they are all 15 and under I guess they won't remember him. The lack of respect on there for what KK did for us the first two times shocked me. It stretches to Shearer too. Ok HTT, now I understand why you dragged up a three week old post on N-O and even then part quoted it to make it look more 'sacriligious'. You are trying to fit in here...be part of the crowd (belatedly). Well fuck you mate. Shearer didn't want to be Newcastle manager at that time, he didn't want to be involved when Keegan offered him a role, the only job he's interested in right now is sitting alongside a bunch of smug cunts like Lawrenson and Hansen in a tv studio. If you want to paint that as being 'disrespectful' then that's your choice. Let me re-iterate my appreciation for JFK though. He wanted the job. That's a start. -

Just as well you work in the city and are privy to this insider info or we would be completely in the dark about it. TBF I dont think your average geordie spends more time pouring over the business media rather than some grot site. Yeah. Geordies are too thick to spell poring right for example. -
