I'm sorry, I haven't a clue what your point is. My point was that until recently (2013), a nurse did not need to complete a degree course to be a nurse and that the vast proportion of current Nurses are very good and became very good WITHOUT needing a degree. Added to the these FACTS! was the underlying point which is that there are some very good potential nurses out there who will now not enter the profession due to having not attained good enough grades at school or by being unable to rise to the EXTRA academic requirements of the degree. I say all of this based on common sense, one mother and three sisters who were excellent nurses and a brother in law who until recently was Professor of nurse training in Newcastle. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it

It's only just went to degree level. Virtually every NHS nurse doesn't have / need a degree.

Brings me nicely back to nursing. Spoke to two very nice and caring trainee nurses today who are dropping out because they find the academic side too hard.

So Grammar schools. Not a subject that I've given much thought too. The ideal would be every child having the intelligence and access to a level of teaching that grammar schools offer. However thats a pipe dream that's not going to happen and probably wouldn't suit a lot of kids anyway. (Social reasons and different kinds of intelligence other than academic). So, If we want to be an economic success in the world then it makes sense at some point to try and identify the cream. However I would like this option to be fully available to every child and determined in a way that avoids rich parents simply tutoring kids for the test. It's unfair to the system AND possibly the child. Similarly, we should have a similar route for those who are technically gifted. The rest can go to comp and become accountants, IT etc. Thoughts?
