If we do get Beye and Faye for the figures of around 2 million each with the sales of Dyer and Parker we have managed to purchase for around about a net spend of 11 million Rozenhal Cacapa Enrique Beye (?) Faye (?) Geremi Barton Smith Viduka Thats some pretty decent business. Whilst we have not looked great in creating etc from midfield so far hopefully Emre may be more comfortable in a 3 man midfield, I think Barton will make a big difference and if Sam can get Duff both fit and motivated he could be an important player in the 4-3-3 formation. Yes many will complain throughout the season about a lack of attacking flair from the side but it certainly looks like hes building from the back, something we have been crying out for. With the current debt so high I am also impressed with the way we have dealt in the market without sending silly money especially with the talent and experience we have brought in. Just look at the mackems.. Gordon - 9 McShane - 2.5 Etuhu - 1.5 Richardson - 5.5 Chopra - 5 Anderson - 1 Halford - 3.5 (?) Higginbotham - 3 Jones - 6 37 million for a team consisting of Championship and SPL players. Whilst many were expecting to see us spend silly money its good to see the club being run professionally and building a decent squad whilst also looking at the bigger picture both off field and for the near future.

HAVING lost Stephen Carr and Peter Ramage to long-term injuries at the weekend, Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce is hoping to sign both Abdoulaye Faye and Habib Beye before the transfer window closes on Friday. But with French side Marseille reluctant to release Beye so close to the end of the month, the Magpies manager has also expressed an interest in Chelsea full-back Glen Johnson as he attempts to patch-up his injury-hit squad in the next 48 hours. Allardyce has been monitoring Beye's situation for the majority of the summer, but Sunday's double setback at the Riverside has persuaded him to make a £2m offer for the Senegal international. Marseille are reluctant to sell their skipper this month, but 28-year-old Beye has previously spoken of his desire to play in the Premier League. Should they fail to do so, Allardyce is ready to switch his attention to Johnson after Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho revealed he was willing to listen to offers for the England international. Mourinho signed a full-back of his own last week in the shape of Brazilian Juliano Belletti, and while Allardyce was disappointed to miss out on the former Barcelona defender having expressed an interest himself, his disappointment has been tempered by Johnson's subsequent availability. The 23-year-old is now surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, but Villa and Portsmouth have confirmed their intention to bid for his services this week. Johnson spent last season on loan at Fratton Park, and Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is hoping to persuade him to return to the south coast. Faye's future is equally complex, although Newcastle officials are confident that a £2m deal can be thrashed out with Bolton chairman Phil Gartside. "I've no definites yet, but I'm working very hard and I'm hoping to secure one or possibly two players before the window closes," said Allardyce, who confirmed Ramage suffered a cruciate ligament injury on Sunday that could rule him out for the majority of the season. "We're pursuing two targets at this particular moment, and outside of that, if they don't work there's another couple we can move to very quickly. "Getting them in is the problem though because managers are reluctant to sell players when they've not got enough time to buy replacements. "Then, there's the issue of getting things done quickly enough to complete a medical. Things will have to move quickly if we're going to give ourselves enough time before the closing of the window."

Including Gift Aid (which that site doesn't include with your total even though it should) we are sitting on around £500 now -
Tbh the majority of the time its the opposite with yourself. If anyone disagrees with your opinion you often just have to resort to abuse rather than acknowledging that others may have different opinions to yourself and its maybe not a matter of people being cliquey. IMO I don't believe half of what you post anyway and think you are one of the biggest WUMs on here, but you do a half decent job at it as more often than not it appears that you get the reaction you are looking for. Just my opinion like.

A Stoke City footballer who claimed his stepfather was at the wheel when he was clocked doing 103mph in his Mercedes has been jailed for four months. Vincent Pericard, 24, admitted perverting the course of justice, at Plymouth Crown Court. The former Juventus and Portsmouth striker was caught on the A38 near Plymouth last March. The Cameroon-born player was charged after his stepfather Jack told police he had not been in the UK since 2003. Officers had tracked his stepfather down after letters were sent to him at an address in France. 'Serious consequences' Pericard, who has twice been disqualified from driving for previous speeding offences, was sent further letters, to which he did not reply. Eventually one said the picture of him speeding was taken from in front of the car and revealed the driver. Vincent Pericard was on loan at Plymouth Argyle at the time In December, he sent a statement to police saying he had made a mistake and apologised for any inconvenience, but was later arrested. The court heard Pericard earned £190,000 a year and could afford a significant fine. But Judge Francis Gilbert said speed cameras would be a "waste of time" if there were not serious consequences for this type of offence. "You were looking to escape - it was a deliberate plan of dishonesty," he told Pericard. "I regard doing an act intending to pervert the course of public justice as serious. "You cannot buy yourself out of the consequences." 'Small minority' Pericard, of Oyster Road, Portsmouth, joined Stoke City on a free transfer at the end of the 2005-06 season. The court heard he had been speeding while travelling from his Portsmouth home to a training session in Plymouth where he was playing for Plymouth Argyle on loan. After the hearing, Pc Duncan Russell said: "There is a small minority of people who think they are above the law and that they can lie their way out of a speeding fine. "In this case the defendant was driving at 103mph and deliberately lied to avoid the consequences. "The sentence today reinforces that the court will not tolerate this behaviour."

Thats great for us not in Newcastle.... I am sure they will post one out to you if you phone and ask! I'm sure they will too, but surely it would make sense just to post it out automatically as they will have people calling from allover. Just been on and was 10th in a queue so have left it just now. Also with us having to get it posted today there is very little chance we can have it sorted for Weds game.

Platini wanted to limit qualifying places per country to three Uefa president Michel Platini is set to propose a shake-up of Champions League qualification in England by handing a place to the FA Cup winners. Under new proposals, the Cup winners - rather than the team that finishes fourth in the Premier League - would go into Europe's elite cup competition. It comes after Platini's plan to reduce qualification spots for any one country from four to three was rejected. However, this proposal could be viewed as an compromise. The plans will be unveiled by Platini next week, before the group stage of the Champions League gets underway. And BBC Sport understands such a proposal would receive the support of the Football Association, who would be keen to increase the value of the FA Cup. The plans would also be backed by the Italian FA, though Uefa's new strategic forum, made up of clubs, leagues and players unions, would be less favourably inclined suggesting there would be a lot of debate to come. Suggestions that it would help break the monopoly of Champions League qualification among England's 'top four' appear unfounded, however, with one of Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool winning all but two of the last 19 FA Cup competitions.

Skysports.com understands Sunderland are lining up a move for Roma's Samuel Kuffour. Black Cats boss Roy Keane is actively scouring the transfer market for reinforcements and is hoping to bring in a few new faces before the close of the transfer window next week. Keane is eager to bolster his defence and he believes experienced campaigner Kuffour would be a valuable addition to his squad. Kuffour's future at Roma looks uncertain with the Ghanaian international spending last season on loan at Livorno. The former Bayern Munich man is well down the pecking order at the Stadio Olimpico and the Italian club are thought to be willing to listen to offers. The news has alerted Sunderland who are now pondering a move for Kuffour to shore up their defence. Kuffour's agent Oscar Damiani admitted a move to Sunderland could happen if a deal can be agreed with Roma. "It is a possibility that Samuel could move to Sunderland," Damiani told skysports.com. "It all depends on Roma and what they want to do."
