Glenn Roeder felt the display of Andrew Carroll was a rare bright spot in Newcastle's defeat to Portsmouth. The Magpies were second best in almost every department and the 2-1 win for Pompey did not flatter the hosts. Roeder opted to throw on Carroll at half-time and the giant striker ruffled a few feathers in the second-half. The Magpies chief was hugely disappointed with the team's display, but reserved praise for the 18-year-old. "Big Andy has come on and has helped change things," Roeder told the club's official website. "It's no coincidence we looked a far better side in the second half. "His hold up play was excellent and he found a black and white shirt every time he touched the ball. "He's a great lad and hopefully we'll see a lot more of Andy Carroll over the next few years at Newcastle United."

I have seen that little of him in a Black and White shirt I almost forget at times that hes actually one of our players..

Better watch what you say about Clark mate. I got slated over on N-O once for calling him and Terry Mac The Chuckle Brothers. "Fair enough you can pass judgement on Mcdermott, but how can you call Clark a chuckle brother? If thats the way people are going to treat an apprentice manager, learning his trade at the club that he loves, then its a wonder how anyone makes it here." I feel so guilty now. Because of my posting on a internet forum it looks like I may have ruined Clarkys managerial career. Sorry lads...

Thats the thing, if people do not renew I imagine its almost to protest at the shambles the club is in. Whilst I know I will renew part of me doesn't but not because we are not top 4 etc (though we know opposing teams and the media will think it is) but almost as a protest that a club with the money we are ploughing into it is a fucking shambles from top to bottom. From the chairman who pays himself a hefty salary yet continues to make bad decisions (If he was the chairman of any other "Business" he would long be out on his arse) to the Chuckle Brothers who are left to do the coaching, thats if they time in between picking what horse to back at 3.15, players who are being paid an obscene amount of money which alot of comes out of our pockets yet they do not give two fucks about the club and I don't even know what to say about our fuckwit of a a manager. Biggest problem is for alot of us is that we are loyal and common sense tells us that by not renewing we are only going to make the club that we want to do so well suffer even more with less money coming through the gates so once again most of use will renew without thinking twice about it. Fucking depressing times...

Having passed my ticket onto Peter this year I have been itching all season for the renewal forms to come through so I could get my ticket back again. Whilst I most probably will renew as soon as it comes through the Man City game was the first time I had considered was it actually worth it.
-
Nearly time for these to be coming through our letterboxes. I have heard many people over the last few weeks saying that they know people who are for the first time in years not renewing their ticket. Is everyone on here renewing again or are some of you having second toughts about it?

So Roeder wants to single out certain people and criticise them for failing to do their job properly? If thats the way he wants to be I hope Fat Freddy gets him into the office this morning and tells him a few truths about the shit job that he is doing... Hypocritical bastard..

Newcastles under-fire players can expect further recriminations upon their return to training this morning as an irate Glenn Roeder strives to eradicate the failings that have wrecked his Intertoto Cup ambitions. United lost 2-1 at Portsmouth on Saturday and, with Roeder admitting his troubled team need to win their four remaining top-flight fixtures to stand any chance of Continental qualification, it does not look as though there will be European football at St James's Park next season. It was not so much the result but the performance at Fratton Park that angered a manager who pulled no punches with a frank post-match condemnation that suggested he had been pushed to breaking point. Roeder has told those he considers the worst culprits what he thinks of them. But, considering the scale of the problems he has identified in his dressing room, the inquests will continue, the implications serious. "I just won't have it," insisted a manager whose distress at his team's first-half efforts led him to administer the most-severe admonishment of his Tyneside tenure during a heated interval exchange. "I would rather have players with less natural ability who I know will spill their guts week in, week out for Newcastle United than what I saw out there. We carried three or four players (in the first half). You might get away with carrying one poor performance in a team at this level but not three or four. There were too many whose performances were not good enough, and certain players just did not show enough energy, drive and desire. "What angers me the most is that we have talented players in the squad who have no self-motivation. I had players out there who were not giving it everything. That is unacceptable and I find it amazing. "The easiest thing to bring to a game of football is desire to win and a motivation to run around but we had talented players who did not do that and I let them know at half time who they were. "The Premiership is not like other leagues in Europe. It has its own style. You must give your absolute all in every game. It's an exciting league because the tempo is flat-out, but there were some players who did not do that and I'm not accepting it, I don't care who they are. "If you're going to solve problems you need to admit there is a problem and we had a problem, we were poor. We came out for the second half a different team, but if you have to do that (read the riot act at half time) in every game, then those players have to move on because that's not what I want at the club. "I never single out any individual (in public) - I'll do that back at the training ground. But there were players who got on that bus who know my feelings about them." Roeder had travelled to Fratton Park determined to improve the club's chances of sneaking into the Intertoto Cup, but United's 15th league defeat this season has made such a scenario almost impossible. "We had to beat Portsmouth to have a chance," admitted the frustrated 51-year-old. "I never give up with anything but I realise this was a game we needed to win. We're in a situation where we will have to win our four remaining games and see what the teams above us do." That Chelsea are Newcastle's next opponents underlines the scale of a challenge that appears beyond Roeder's men. That the injured list is growing again will make it harder still. Although Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi will hope to take significant steps closer to their respective comebacks this week, Scott Parker, Antoine Sibierski and Kieron Dyer all missed Saturday's game. Dyer's absence is a particular concern given that it relates to his hamstrings. Craig Moore and Damien Duff were both injured at Fratton Park and, although that is nothing new for the former player, the latter's plight appeared to be severe. "He (Duff) took a couple of heavy tackles on his ankle, and it has swollen up," added Roeder. "He will have a scan and although there's no point guessing until we see what damage is done, it must make him a doubt for Chelsea."

After seeing Gregs post I started a game unemployed but managed to get the Nantes job. For once I never signed one player ( I normally am the Harry Redknapp of FM) and managed a 4th place finish in the league, missed out on Champions League football by 4 points.

Do you dislike Parker that much you need to make posts under two different usernames?

Glenn has PMT - Positive Mental Thoughts!

Not sure about him having PMT but I wish he would get his fucking P45.. -
Thats the most worrying thing for me. Does anyone really seeing us improving enough next season that would encourage Owen to sign an extension, no chance if that fuckwit Roeder is still in charge. That means next summer we would need to sell or let him walk away the following season for fuck all. Whilst I would love to see a fit Michael Owen in a Newcastle shirt scoring goals and appreciate he is one of very few players in our squad of any genuine class. Can we afford to take that risk or would sellling him now and reinvesting the money into another player on a longer contract be more to the benefit of the long term future of the club?

Newcastle have warned that they are prepared to go to court to prevent England calling up Michael Owen for June's Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia. The striker suffered a serious knee injury at last summer's World Cup and has yet to play for The Magpies this season Owen may return to the Newcastle side before the end of their Premiership campaign, which in turn could lead Steve McClaren to consider him for England's crucial qualifier on 6th June. However, Newcastle are still seeking compensation for Owen's injury and are determined for the Football Association to pay one way or another. "If the FA don't offer us a fair settlement, we are prepared to go to court to get an injunction that could stop Michael playing for England against Estonia," Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd told the Sunday Mirror. "We would do that very reluctantly, but the FA's stance is unfortunately leaving us with no other option. We will be seeking a reimbursement of his medical costs, and if there is no offer from the FA we will have no choice but to involve our lawyers. "We have not been paid a penny by the FA for Owen's recuperation bill. "They have not paid the price of even an aspirin for Michael since he left their care. They cut him loose as soon as he was put on the plane home. "They have refused point blank to pay us, despite it costing us well over £150,000 to aid his recuperation. "The FA are abusing a dominant position. They are taking our prize asset for nothing and then returning him as damaged goods." Meanwhile, Owen has been linked with a big-money move to Premiership leaders Manchester United this summer. Reports in the English press indicate that United could be keen on bolstering their strikeforce with Owen, who is contracted to Newcastle for two more years.

ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger is ready to offer Newcastle skipper Scott Parker a return to London - by packing Gilberto Silva off in the other direction. Parker has had a torrid time of it of late on Tyneside, with Toon fans jeering him to such an extent that boss Glenn Roeder has had to publicly ask them to lay off. And Brazil star Gilberto would be interested in a move north, because Arsenal are only willing to offer him a one-year extension to his current deal as part of Wenger's over-30s policy. Roeder, on the other hand, would stump up a three-year contract for the 30-year-old World Cup-winner. Londoner Parker joined Newcastle in 2005 in a £6.5million summer switch after failing to establish himself at Stamford Bridge following his dream move from Charlton to Chelsea. His tough-tackling displays soon won him a place in the Toon fans' hearts, but recently they have begun to accuse him of not trying. And Wenger would be willing to part with around £8million - which would include Gilberto - to sign the England international. - Newcastle boss Roeder is keen on Melbourne Victory striker Adrian Leijer, skipper of Australia Under-21s.

Glenn Roeder will fly off on a European scouting mission this week as he closes in on several summer transfer targets. The Newcastle boss will take in a league game on the Continent, either France or Italy, to run the rule over potential signings. And he last night insisted that United are in a position to move swiftly at the end of the season to land the men he wants. "Recruiting for next season is ongoing - we're watching players all the time," said Roeder, chasing three defenders and a midfielder. "I'm aware of potential signings playing in the Premiership and every weekend we're out and about in Europe. I'm making a trip into Europe on Wednesday following up on a couple of players. "This season we've clocked up more air miles watching players than ever before." Roeder, as revealed by the Sunday Sun last month, is confident of landing Reading's Steve Sidwell on a free. French sources suggest he is also keen on Nancy's left-sided central defender Pape Diakhate. But the United boss is also confident of an imminent off-field signing. "I hope to be able to make a key appointment in terms of scouting in the very near future," he said. "I think there will be more of a European flavour about our set-up."

Obafemi Martins is certain to be a Newcastle player next season - and he WILL be a perfect partner for Michael Owen. That's the message from Glenn Roeder as speculation persists over Martins' future - and the Nigerian's ability to play alongside a fit-again Owen. Chelsea, Juventus and even Manchester United have been linked with Martins during his maiden Premiership season. But the 17-goal star is going nowhere, and could form a formidable Newcastle front-line with Owen AND Shola Ameobi next season. "I'm 100 per cent certain that Oba will be here next season," insisted Roeder. "Talk of him leaving in the summer is just mischief-making. "We have Oba for another four seasons - his future is at Newcastle. I know he wants to be here because he's told me that's the case. I'm going to put a better squad together in the summer and Oba not being here wouldn't help that." And although some suggest Martins and Owen are too similar to succeed in tandem, Roeder is having none of it. "I wouldn't be worried about them playing together at all," added the United boss. "Just because both Oba and Michael are short wouldn't bother me. The way Oba leaps for the ball means he doesn't play like a short player anyway. "They could share the attacking roles with one further forward and one coming off the shoulder. "I think it all comes down to the quality of the player, and if the players are good enough then they'll form a partnership. "And in certain circumstances, I might play Michael, Oba and Shola together. Why not? With the quality and football intelligence that they have then it's something I would consider."

Glenn Roeder, has blasted the "negative" people in and around St James's Park he claims are dragging Newcastle United down. And, while maintaining his job has never been in doubt, the Magpies boss claimed to knows the source of the story that Sven-Goran Eriksson was lined up as his successor. Roeder admitted to being driven "mad" by the pessimists who claimed United were in relegation danger during their recent slump. And the positive-thinking boss has vowed to drum all such doom-mongerers out of the club. "I didn't think our Premiership status was ever in doubt, but unfortunately you're surrounded by negative people in this job," blasted Roeder. "It sort of drives you mad. Is the world going to come to an end tomorrow? I guarantee it's not. But there'll be plenty of people who say it is. "Take them away from me; I can't stand negativity. Surround yourself with the lucky and the happy - that's my motto." The same naysayers questioned Roeder's job security, and one national broadsheet has insisted he will make way for Eriksson (right, with Freddy Shepherd) this summer. But Roeder added: "I didn't think my position was ever in doubt. "In the week that Chris Coleman loses his job, people just see an opportunity to make a bit of mischief - and I know where it's coming from. "I've got much more important things to worry about than that report. It's just fish and chip paper now. The cod's been wrapped up in that. Who gives a monkey's?"

We can legally speak to him as of 6th months before his contact is due to expire so around about Dec31st 2006. I think that's only for non-domestic transfers. I dunno, I am sure Gary Caldwell worked his move to Celtic under that ruling. Celtic of course being in which country? The same country that Caldwell was playing in for Hibs? It could have been worse, it could have been Patrokles correcting you and the start of another major bitchfest...
