  1. Newcastle are set to pull out of their moves for Nicolas Anelka and Luis Boa Morte. The North East giants lodged bids for both forwards last week, but their offers were immediately shunned by their respective clubs - Fenerbahce and Fulham. Newcastle were expected to go back with fresh bids for both players this week, but chairman Freddy Shepherd insists no new offers will be made for either Anelka or Boa Morte. "In the past perhaps we have been willing to bring in a player at any cost but we are not going to be anybody's mugs any more," stressed Shepherd. "They (the bids) are certainly not derisory and we won't be budging. If the clubs in question decide to pick the bids up, then great. "If not, then we will move on. If we don't get them, Graeme and the scouts will identify different players and we will move for them." One deal that talks are continuing over is that for Craig Moore. The experienced Australian defender has been targeted by manager Graeme Souness and he could soon seal a move to St James' Park. "He has indicated he wants to come to Newcastle, but we have got to have a deal that suits both parties and talks are ongoing," Shepherd told the club's website.

  4. *Warning long post* A couple of people now have asked as to why the new board, some questioning if it was petty or to be snide towards HTT. On HTT myself and some other mods were questioned within the admin section as to what our position was regarding the boards so i thought perhaps it would only be right to post on here to let those posters questioning the decision know why too.

  7. Whats your opinion perople? Something that has always been discussed in the past so we can keep classics like Gemmill hung like a... The Australian Qualification thread... Combi boiler prices... to name a few. They become catchphrases on the board, so should for any future quality threads have a "Gold" section to be placed in?

  10. Graeme Souness has picked out one of his players for special praise ahead of the new season, describing the man in question as 'a dream to work with'. Such high praise is surely reserved for Alan 'first to the training ground and last to leave' Shearer, or hard-working new signing Scott Parker. On this occasion, however, Souness was talking about the much-maligned Lee Bowyer, the player who who disgraced the club just a few months ago by fighting with team-mate Kieron Dyer. Now Souness has put any such indiscretion in the past, and is keen to have Bowyer leading a new-look midfield for The Toon Army this season. "I have never wanted Lee Bowyer to leave," claimed Souness. "Since I have been here I have enjoyed working with him. He has a right go in training every day. "I know he has been involved in situations off the field and last year on the field, but he is a dream to work with. "I spoke to David O'Leary and George Graham and they both said the same thing. "He is a great lad and just has to not get involved in things that are daft because mention his name and people don't think about the hard-working player who goes out on the park every week, they talk about the daft things." Souness was speaking after Newcastle's win over Dubnica, a victory that has set up a mouth-watering Intertoto Cup tie against Deportivo La Coruna. And Souness will hope that Bowyer can finally reproduce the form for Newcastle that once saw him help Leeds United to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.
