I think the war/conflict blame game is the "minor" downside of religion for me as I accept the human nature angle - it's the insidious anti-reason and nonsensical bollocks that pollutes people's brains that bothers me. And thats before the fuckers pass laws to enshrine said bollocks and affect rational people with their nonsense.

Regarding the middle East, it's worth pointing out there is a large and powerful Christian lobby who see conflict there as a fundamental part of their end times fantasy and are willing to do anything to achieve it.

I don't accept the West is post religious. The US certainly isn't and many countries are still intrinsically bound to religion and their evil twin monarchies all over Europe. There may be a reduced Sunday congregations in the UK but the link with religion through weddings, funerals and of course education is still central to the British way of life. And thats before you consider the adherence to non-Christian religions.

Newcastle United: Club Sold To PCP - Official

I think toning it down from "I'm suing you bastards for being corrupt" to "let's go to arbitration" is a bit of a change. They'll still block it anyway of course. -
To be honest, you know I support a very left wing agenda and hope Starmer at least embraces it to a reasonable degree but I'd be more than happy to see these one-man cultists fuck off permanently. I'm sure there'll be enough decent left wingers who stay.

Thing is the methodology where 100 people get it and 95 had the placebo and 5 the vaccine then assumes all 100 had the same exposure. I suppose people who know statistics better than me can account for the 30k trial participants in this but it would be "good" though a tad unethical if they carried out those challenge tests where they give people the virus. Obviously they would be skewed by insistence on young/healthy people but I think it would reassure some doubters.

The price is just an American firm adding cunt to the mix which shouldn't affect the UK but it is a pisser for the rest of the world. Maybe the Oxford one will be the same as its monkey trials where it was more of a severity reducer than a preventer and that could be used for the population at large while leaving the better ones for the vulnerable.
-
I'm a little concerned that too much weight has been given to the Oxford one - just reading we have 350m across six vaccines which is good but I would hope we don't have to settle for a slightly inferior one just because it's easy or convenient or even worse because it British.

Moderna vaccine 94.5% effective. Isn't on the list of UK pre-bought list but they're trying now. All according to Peston.

I've read a couple of things saying that when he was mayor Johnson gave the impression of competence due to a team of semi-competent people around him who ran things. Maybe he tried the same setup again but this set of cunts didn't get on. Will be interesting to see if he tries again.

Feyernord was good - hairy moment as we were staying with a mate in Utrecht so ended up on the other train platform to all the NUFC fans going back to Amsterdam standing with locals. Not usually for the actual games, I preferred the trips to more exotic place like Belgrade and Sofia.

We shouldn't let North West Durham off the hook - Thatcher might as well have nuked Consett in 1980 and 40 years later they voted Tory - I'm torn between sympathy/pity and thinking a nuke now wouldn't be a bad idea..

The wealthiest will be more inclined to use tax avoidance, the little people will pay.

Problem is the state level elections reflect the national vote so you can end up with cycles where the republicans are in charge. Also as I understand it District borders are drawn every ten years which is why they're so fucked now due to the shit midterms Obama had in 2010. Thats why the Democrats relatively poor performance down the card matters more this year.

He needs to challenge and somehow win all of those last five or six states - one or two are no good so it's all about accepting that. I think they've probably moved on to trying to build an agenda for the next election that this one was "stolen".

Fair enough, maybe I misread it but it still shows support for something in a direction that's nowhere near Biden's table. I know it's an eternal argument about pragmatism versus ambition and I know they won the big one but I think they may have done better down the card with something more. As I said if they only achieve minimal change over the next 4 years then it will be easier for the next Trump to win.
-
I understand the pragmatism argument but the Fox exit polls showed support for medicare for all at 73% - the problem is the infantile association between it and socialism which they need to get over.
-
If "anytime soon" means June next year at a guess, that's still a huge, huge result.
-
There was a story the other day about GPs and other clinics being asked to prepare for two vaccines from the start od December one of which had to be kept at - 70 so I'd guess that refers to this one and possibly the Oxford one. If it wasn't for the fact it needs mass use I'd tell any anti-science cunts to fuck off from getting it/them.
-
There an argument over why they failed to win the senate - one side says its due to support for BLM and defunding the police and the other says its due to lukewarm policy offers including no medicare for all. Funnily enough all the candidates who vocally backed medicare won and those that opposed it lost. They'll use the senate excuse for doing nothing while offering nothing to change it at the midterms.
-
She's right though - apart from normalising government and actually tackling the pandemic which of course are necessary and welcome, Biden won't do anything for vast tracts of the people who voted for him - just like Obama before him. Exit polls showed huge support for medicare for all but its nowhere near the table for Biden. Just like Blair he'll concentrate on the perceived people who won it for re-election purposes and completely ignore the base and then they'll wonder why the next Trump beats them.

I love the way there's this idea that Trump hijacked a decent party and corrupted it. Nixon, Reagan and Bush Sr were all horrible cunts and Bush Jr was a useful idiot puppet who was more than happy to just about steal an election. It's like arguing Johnson has turned the tories into cunts.

Thing is Trump would have easily won but for the pandemic which means the idea of the country being healed to any degree is bollocks. Changing demographics can only do so much and I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel.
