In most of Europe you can get away with criticising other religions but to an extent in the US and in huge tracts of the rest of the world, criticising any religion is most certainly taboo - Islam or not. I think this is why a few of the "Liberals" you refer to have went too far the other way - we'd got used to the religious "turning the other cheek" as it were and the offence taken by Muslims came as a shock which led to people thinking that the offence is legitimate - it isn't imo.

I caught a bit of her statement and it hinted that she did it just for a laugh and was actually apologising for the offence its caused rather than the actual act - in some ways I wish she'd had the courage to just say "look I don't really know why, maybe just for a laugh but anyway you can all fuck off".

As I have said in other threads, the only way forward is to get to know each other better. People fear what they don't understand. I saw a poll recently - I will try to dig it up later - that said opposition to this mosque/community centre is lower among Americans who actually know individual Muslims. I just think that's naive. When two culture are diametrically opposed, there will always be conflict by definition. I mean, look at this board, with one or two notable exceptions, most people are reasonable and tolerant people, yet threads like this invariably cause a shit storm. I think I've said before that I think the voluntary segregation by too many Pakistani immigrants into places like Blackburn and Bradford is a problem in the UK. I think the way West Indians have more or less integrated into the UK in the last 30 years (with some reservations) should show that it is possible for culture clashes to work but I think the underlying key to that integration was willingness to mix socially and sexually. This is where the problem with a lot of Muslims comes to a head imo. Of course there are some who are willing to mix - as I've said before I worked with a Turkish lad until recently who is very Muslim lite but I still see big barriers in some areas as I've mentioned.

Back ones I presume? Not wanting to trivialise domestic violence, but if there was no medical evidence and was her word against his then it does become a bit of a judicial coin toss.

At the moment the only club I could see paying him that much who might be interested is Spurs - maybe its a week too late since they signed Gallas - though I was reading that Woodgate could be perma-fucked.

To be fair, a lot of that censorship is more down to security fears (eg British newspapers not publishing the cartoons) rather than "over-respect". I don't think the Mail or the Sun "respects" Islam.

Not so much Clerks but I've watched Dogma and Mallrats (I know its not generally rated) quite a few times. I also went to one of his "nights" about 5 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I won the £10 face in the crowd - strictly 90s as it was the Boro (1-4) game which I had to watch at SJP after failing to get a ticket for the game. Haha the screen was shite, couldnt see fuck all hardly. Norman whoever he was led the whole Gallowgate on to the pitch and I ended up taking a 2 foot piece of grass home from the penalty spot. Wonder what people must've though on the bus. In fact I'm actually on telly on the pitch, I was on the Warner Bros vid that came out shortly afterwards in a white arran jumper. 5 points for whoever can tell me who scored for the toon that day. I think we left after about 30 minutes/when it was 2-0 as it was pointless watching it. Somebody minor like Lormor or Nielsen?

Should have gone the whole Hog and called themselves Fulwell Television Management 73.

On the whole I think Soccer AM at least used to be tolerable and/or funny but I remember one thing summing it up when they referred to "League 1" being the "second division in old money" - no you should have said the third you stupid twats.

I don't claim to be an expert but surely a cat should be able to jump out of a bin?

We used to have a tradition of drinking of a Good Friday Afternoon then going for a curry on Ocean Road to fill the gap between 3 and 6 - in fact I think that carried on into the 90s. On that note I think when the pubs started not closing at 3 it didn't half affect football crowds - I used to see loads decide to not bother with the match.

Still drink that occasionally. Also had a spell drinking Snakey and black.

70's, 80s, 90s and German are recognised genres in Internet Porn though. I have to say it's sometimes worth watching an old skool one just for the attempt at a "plot".

I'm a huge fan of Kevin Smith but do agree he's dropped his standards a bit lately - though nothing as bad as some suggest.

When I started going to the away games on the train in about 81/82 it was just when the football casual thing was starting and I remember a few of my mates spending ridiculous amounts on clothes. Being a student I could never afford any of it. A couple of weeks ago I was browsing for some cheap work clothes and found someone selling Tacchini t-shirts so I had to buy one just for the hell of it.

You have to deifferentiate between "supporting Islam" and supporting people rights to be Muslims - I feel the same way about Christianity, Judaism and the rest - they're all fucking idiots for believing it, but they should have the right to do so. I don't see how that makes me some kind of terrorist sympathiser.

I'd put Coulter, Bachman, Palin and any of the Fox pundits up there with anyone else.
-
I would love it if no church/temple/mosque of any kind were ever built anywhere ever again, but stopping anyone from doing so is even worse. Do you really want to legislate against people's beliefs?
-
it would be better if they did give up. As for "shocking", remember PC Keith Blakelock ? I hope all you lot hurled your mass protest and voices of reason towards Winston Silcott, Mark Braithwaite and Engin Raghip and told them what you thought of the error of their ways and touched their guilty complex and human side. Fitted up and acquitted.

On the bright side if she's scouring Forums as the Barton piece suggest, there's a chance she knws how much she's loved.
-
My general anti-religion view aside, I wouldn't blame the Muslims if they gave up - they were /are trying to build a centre to build inter-faith relations and that's the reaction. As HF said, they are reacting all over the country to Mosques - so much for freedom of religion.

Shures are the business - especially with the triple flange - both for the actual things and the name.

I've never bought the hype about Harper - I think he's average at best. I have to say I was also surprised he didn't get a red card.
