  1. Not for one moment wanting to defend a Tory but the one report on this I saw a couple of weeks ago definitely had Cameron saying "we will hold a referendum if the treaty hasn't been ratified" - clear as day. Obviously the Checks might have delayed again but they didn't so the promise is defunct.
  2. 5/5 are you MAD? At least keep him till the end of the season. From bitter experience that's his good spell over for the year.
  3. I know on the pitch is paramount but I'd like to dig out the development plans for the metro station etc and see about developing the ground in the long term. On the pitch I'd sack Shola.
  4. I've just read this as I thought at first glance it was going to be naive and simplistic (apologies PP) but I now see it's a serious plan and I'm very interested. As an unreformed lefty who's been "forced" to embrace the idea of pension funds, I have to say the idea of being able to invest in something I care about rather than in some stock market based, capitalist bullshit fund is particularly appealing. I look forward to the details.
  5. It look like they were all waiting for someone to stick their head above the parapet of stupidity before it becomes common - on behalf of football, thanks fat cunt.
  6. And the compen/costs could mean administration/player sales - what a twat.
  7. They're in a strange position now though (no sympathy). They really need promotion in order to sell but at the same time have gone back to a half-arsed "we're here long term" kind of approach but without any kind of planning apart from the branding shite. If they were honest and said they were going to try and sell it again in the summer and to ensure that were going to chuck a few quid in to try and make sure I'd have a modicum of respect for them (though still want them to die) but as it is they seem clueless (again) about any way forward to meet any kind of goal. This is why I still think it would be bad if we do go up in these circumstances - I can see him applying the half-arsed/no-arsed approach to trying to stop up which will result in further humiliation and relegation.
  8. It's a strange one (I despise them both) - I think before Man U started winning the titles there was a lot of hatred about the arrogance of their fans which lasted into the winning period. However I now think theres a bit of mellowing in hatred at large as people direct it more to the "bought" suvccess of Chelsea. Conversely I think the "delusion" of Scousers that they have a divine right to the title is seeing an upsurge in hatred probably fuelled by the cheating of Gerrard and Torres. I would also say that people who do remember what Liverpool were like (on and off the pitch) when they were top dogs will never lose that deep seam of hatred.
  9. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...aODA&pos=11 Theres a simpler JC quote that takes care of him (and probably 95% of other Christians in the world today) - the one about rich men, eyes of needles, camels and heaven.
  10. In 1950 Labour got 51% and lost. The present system looks unfair I'd agree but I have grave reservations about PR even though it sounds fairer at face value. For example I think it can lead to minorities like the Irish parties (and potentially the BNP) having power out of proportion with their mandate. I also don't like the idea of transferring votes based on a preference order - the Tories aren't my Nth choice they're my beyond infinity choice.
  11. Kinnear was even more full of bullshit than the pair of twats.
  12. I think if we're top he'll make a profit (the greater any gap the more sales) - in the same way I think in January we weren't actually in the bottom 3 so he thought we were okay.
  13. So what's plan b than you twat? I know I'm pissing against the wind but they have to realise that a modicum of investment is the only way to get anywhere near ensuring promotion.
  14. I'm going to sound all LM here but too many black people have a chip on their shoulder in my opinion. Of course I recognise the history and if its justified then fair enough but too many delight in the offence the same way too many white lefty liberals take offence on their behalf. Just so I tick all the boxes this also applies to some Gays (see Peter Tatchell).
  15. Like the Treaty of Lisbon itself which was passed by royal assent with no debate? I'm pretty pro-europe as it happens but I think it's the wrong tack to hold up our "democracy" as a perfect model.
  16. Que? Because faceless bureaucrats write the laws in dark rooms, which aren't properly debated or even sometimes not debated and ratified before anoyone outside of about 10 people know what happened. As opposed to people running scared of Mail readers who pass laws by mumbling them in front of an unelected head of state "by the grace of God"?
  17. I thought Charver but we did have a German lad at our place called Kai (though I'd stick with the charver angle in all honesty).
  18. It's amazing that we have the best defence despite the recent abscences and the on/off appearances of Simpson. As I said, I still think we are allowing too many chances but once we do get those pleyers back regularly which will hopefully reduce the laxity, it should be the basis for good results.
  19. I've noticed a pattern in the away games I've seen - overall we look like the "better" team in terms of player quality which has worked out but games have turned on missed chances for the other team - Cardiff, Ipswich and Sheff U all missed good ones whereas Forest and Scunthorpe scored. Whether you put that down to blind luck or a lack of consistent opposition quality (which is why we lost all the similar games last year) its something I don't think will last all year as a positive balance. The defence looks like its done well but I still theres work to be done. We also need to be creating a lot more chances which is down to lack of guile.
  20. It was pseudo-scientific but Alan Smith's comments about the 2-5% he accepted he no longer had which you need to be a top player made a lot of sense to me. I think the margins between top notch/decent/acceptable/average are pretty slim and football intelligence is certainly a factor - its something classicly lacking in people like Shola.
  21. The double whammy of an exit this week and not qualifying for next year would certainly have some arses twitching. I desperately hope they lose every single game they play (apart from when playing the Mackems) so I can't go much further than that but the continuing financial problems and ground delays are a tasty bonus. As is the divine righters' squealing.
  22. I also get the impression that there seems to be a lot of Poll wannabe refs in this league - the one tonight was fucking terrible. He was dying for them to score - one of those times if I was a player I'd have been tempted to say "tough shit, wanker" at the end.
  23. We all want to see good football and great goals but there's something deeply satisfying about winning with a spawny as fuck goal while the other team whinge. I'm warming to Carroll a bit - stood up well to that fat yorkshire twat. Same applies to Enrigue - all he has to do is learn how to play 10/15 yard passes to his teammates and he'll be excellent.
  24. KD his focus was on health effects rather than violence/anti-social stuff. I see the two as separate as a lot of people can drink "sensibly" but still have health issues.
  25. I would add that the drugs issue is like immigration - adult debate is seen as toxic to politicians which I think is one of their greatest failings. The mantra of "lets talk about and address only things we can without upsetting anyone" is sheer cowardice. Having said that I can understand how the number of thick people about would easily discourage them.
