As good as Butt has been this season, he's pretty poor with the ball, and he had 3 decent opportunities on Sunday that he couldn't get on target. Quite good in posession and good distribution. Thats not what the Arsenal fans think (on message boards anyway). They moan about his distribution a bit anyway. Spoilt? One missed place once probably! I don't really know, I haven't seen much of him, but I wasn't talking about him. What I meant is that we have plenty of bite, it's just that we have no talent and creativity. I hope you weren't being serious. You'd pass up the chance to sign an internationl, young defensive midfielder who is clearly rated by Wenger, and can double as a right-back when Beye is away? Manager Sam Allardyce has yet to table an offer for the 22-year-old but he will have to better the £4million bid Tottenham had rejected last week. Glenn Roeder tried to sign the then Chelsea player during his time in charge at St James' Park and now Allardyce is ready to test Arsene Wenger's resolve to hang on to the France international. Diarra joined Arsenal last summer but has made only eight starts in the first team. However, he has played twice against Newcastle, featuring for the full 90 minutes of a 2-0 Carling Cup third-round victory in September and in a 1-1 Premier League draw last month. Like Charles N'Zogbia and new boy Wesley Ngo Baheng, Diarra is a product of the Youth Academy at Le Havre - there again so was Boumsong.... Faye is also a specialist defensive midfielder and there's several others who are capable of doing the job. As far as I can see we don't have a single attacking midfielder (unless you count Emre who is more likely to be away in the window than get a run of games) so that has to be the priority. If we have the chance to sign both all well and good but I think it's highly unlikely Allardyce is going to have a massive amount of money to spend this transfer window and if Diarra is going to cost between £2m & £5m that is going to be a hell of a chunk of his budget eaten up immediately. It's only my opinion but if we were to sign him I can't see us going for an attacking midfielder too. Yes he would provide cover for Beye which would have the added benefit of keeping Carr away from the team but for five or six games during the African Nations I wouldn't really be wanting to spend that sort of money. He is actually quite skillful and can strike a ball sweetly, he's just your typical box to box engine room man!
