Rituals

I was reading an article before about some sportstars pre-game rituals and wonder if anyone here has any? It does not have to relate to sports of course.

I don’t think I have any myself before playing footy.

However in football manager I position my cursor over the team’s side of the possession bar to encourage my team to get in their half and score...

I always sell Gary Speed to Valencia on an old manager game I have because the other teams that come in for him are shit and I want him to go to a decend club even if Valencia are offering less :yes

You mentioned sport stars (:yes), so these are all for when I play ice hockey:

On the ice but before warming up:

Skate round the whole rink.

Hit the plexi behind the goal with my stick (or wherever there's people)

Before the first faceoff:

Lean on the goal nonchalantly

During a game:

Tap my helmet with my catcher

Tap each post with my stick

Knock both gloves together before going into my stance as the opposition has a breakaway.

When I was seriously into rock climbing, I ALWAYS, without fail, had a polished Haematite pebble in my chalkbag whilst doing a route.

No idea how that started, but it was bloody important at the time.

Also never put my left shoe on first.

That's surprisingly resigned for a goalie... <_<

My senior year (last time I played ice competitively) I'd eat the same meal before every game- two soft tacos no lettuce and a bean burrito from Taco Bell. It was the closest fast food joint to the rink and I was always running late. Always used black tape on my stick blade and white tape on the shaft and end. That's not really a ritual though, black tape makes it just a little more difficult for the goalie to pick up the puck and the white tape didn't stain the palms of my gloves like the black tape did. I would re-tape my stick before a big game though.

I used to have a bunch of rituals when I played golf, but I don't have time to play anymore. My favorite was before every match or tournament I'd pull out a black marker and mark three balls. I used several different marks over the years, but the combo that was luckiest was...

khimik97homefr.jpg

Ball 1 (the one I'd start the round with, in other words)- would be marked with the word Khimik in Cyrillic after the Khimik Voskresensk- my favorite Russian team from back in the day (I've since moved on to Dynamo Moscow). It's the big word across the front of the jersey there. First character is an "X".

Ball 2- my crappy rendition of the old Santa Monica Airlines (World Industries) logo

Ball 3- a crudely drawn cross kinda like the one above.

I don't have any work rituals anymore- after we replaced our production servers two summers back, we stopped having a lot of problems. Prior to that, I used to wear my lucky shirt on the nights I wanted to actually go home on time. One of my maintenance guys still has rituals though- he named our process stations at some point or another and he walks up to each machine, says it's name, and pats it twice before the start of every shift.

Cid, I now know that the Cid in your name relates to LSD

Lols, nope. Not me. You can do a spinal tap and I'd come up neggers.

I'm like Hendrix in that sense, I do drugs to get straight. I come up with this kind of shit on my own.
