Two things I remember most was the pubs were shut doon on Sundays and the only place you could get a drink was in a hotel if you lied and said you were a travelling salesman. Me an' me mates said we were travellers in steel. The high-light was been hoyed oot of a dance hall on a Sat'duh neet cos the two lads I was with had too many Bell's & Mac's before we went in. I've got an image of you as Frank Sinatra in 'On The Town' now Noelie. What year do you reckon it was out of interest? My eyes are hazel manc-mag ....My discharge book shows a voyage starting from London in September 1954 and docking in Glasgow in January 1955. It shows the ship was in Glasgow for 8 days before returning to home port London. I recall that voyage took in the Canary Islands, Brasil, Uruguay, and Argentina, and bonnie Scotland. Quality stuff! When the world was a much bigger place than it is these days too, I imagine. Didn't recognise a lot of the references which is what made me curious, but it painted a picture! They have chippies everywhere, all called "The Blue Lagoon" I got sausage and chips one time in the one under the arches of the Central Station, I gans "can a have a chips with the grease love" a bit in to the sausage, fuckin sheeps eye lookin back at me. There's better chippies in every city in Britain, if you're expecting Gormans standard think again. The worst I've ever encountered not a one off neither.
