FWIW if it's on YouTube it's their responsibility for obtaining copyright for the material they host - hence why they delete so much.

It binds no responsibility on a site who link a video as they are merely linking through to something that is hosted elsewhere. Some mods/admins really need to read up on copyright law...

Yeah, that has been the argument of multiple owners of P2P sites as well who have been closed down. It doesn't stand up at all, sorry.

A web forum is NOT a P2P site though. Besides it's how you're dealing with it that's the issue - if you're taking that stance then ban anyone who links to any YouTube clip as you can't argue that they know what is and what isn't copyright. Trouble is, if you take that stance you'll ban almost everybody and destroy your userbase.

As someone who is ultra-careful about infringing copyright law in his line of work, I've got to say you're being incredibly anal and over the top.

That should be their strapline, replacing GIVING TOON FANS A VOICE. That's a good one that int it  giving toon fans a voice, aye in the same way Pravda gave Russians a voice before Gorbachev.

and not too many of them are toon fans anyway, most of the posters with knowledge about the club have been banned.

Embarrassing that people on the outside will be looking in and wondering if we are all as thick as some of those cunts on there.

Why have so many of those who argued their opinions with me, that have now been roundly shown to be spouting shit, disappeared I wonder.

Always been my gripe with Newcastle Online too. It's an embarrassment to the club. Seriously if you were in a pub and asked them 10 basic questions about NUFC, would be a fuckin struggle for a lot of them. Every club has the same problems, but you know when we had our 17-25,000 in 1991, your type of fan then was in a different league to what we have now sadly.

I dont get the youtube thing either as its just football related youtube clips, whereas music etc is allowed (on there).

Doesnt The Guardian post football related youtube vids on their site? Does seem weird.

It's a load of non-sense. You can understand if it's a goal from a Premiership game two days ago, but like I say more and more people are coming round to the idea the website is a stain on the city and the football club.

How about:

www.newcastle-online.org

?

We were shut down a couple of years back due to the posting of copyrighted information after our hosts received a letter warning them. That's where the rule initially came from.

Aye and the footytube site is still going strong several years later - all that is a concoction of web-hosted video clips, youtube amongst them.

Seriously, banning anyone for posting a youtube clip is as hitleresque as you can get. At the very most the link should be removed but even that is OTT.
