Didn't fancy the Grand Canyon myself, there were loads of people flogging helicopter trips but I don't see the point in seeing something from the air and in the end we agreed it wasn't worth taking up a day going there by road.

I did the chopper flight a couple of months ago with landing (they give you some food and champers on the ground). Absolutely fantastic experience.

Expedia, went back in April. A pint will cost you $1 tip for the waitress in a casino btw.

Yeah, at the cost of $20 lost in gambling per drink.

Not if you're good at it. ;)

Even if you're only sticking a few quarters in the slot machines they still provide drink, def a way of saving money.

The slot machines are boring and you spend loads in very little time.

I got addicted to the roulette machine. You dont win big but can break close to even if you spread your bets out.

Your talking out of your arse mate! Go on the 1c slot machines, you'd be hard pressed to get through an hour without winning your $1 back

Fish, regardless of people on here blatantly jealous that your going on holiday and they aren't, DO go to the Grand Canyon, Eagle Point is a must see. And on the way back DO spend the night in Vegas. When else are you going to be that close to either of them?

You won't regret it

Couple of the lads and me have just recently booked a three week trip to America in April. Flying Newcastle - Paris - Atlanta - Vegas - LA (I know, lazy) - New York - Amsterdam - Newcastle. Got those flights for £580.

Haven't decided whether or not to do the Canyon and Hoover Dam yet, one of the other two have already been to Vegas and done it anyway.

Sounds like some drinking session that, sat at a fruit machine among all the blue rinse brigade pretending to play a 1c slot machine just to get a drink.

Always imagined Vegas to be a bit more glam than that.

I thought Fremantle was nice like Fishcake, seeing as you're going to Perth in any case. And while I think on, Rottness Island is a canny little day trip as well.

Aye if you drink on your own in circus circus. If theres 6 of you in Caesars it tends to be a bit more fun, the tail is phenomenal! I can lie and say I spent a load of money and had a shit time if it keeps people happy ;)

It was tongue in cheek. Chill out.

P.S. 1c machines are just a waste of time.

Just play a bit of roulette, 5-10 minutes on there and waitress will usually come round for drinks. I played on the 1c machines a bit, but I find they get boring quickly and there are so many that less waitresses wander past so I ended up going to the bar! Mainly I prefer roulette as I fluked a $100 win in Caesars and I'm generally hopeless at gambling. ;)

Well... I'm buggered... or more accurately my bank account is. Definitely going to Vegas now, and will probably rue the day as I'm a touch impulsive and may end up spending all my cash in the Casinos and/or clubs.

How many in that room?

Oh and alex is right, this is all about me ;)

Football on the telly too. I've got no real inclination to go anywhere in America apart from Las Vegas like. It looks amazing.

What hotel is that KD?

We were in Mandalay Bay.

Vegas is class like. Its only a 3-4 day thing though.

I agree to some extent but wouldn't travel that way for 3-4 days. We went for 7 and managed to get through most of the main stuff in about 3 days but it was nice to spend the other few just wandering about etc. It certainly didn't become boring at any point. It helped that there were a few matches on while we were there mind as we wanted to get out and see those. We were going to have a day by the pool but didn't bother in the end because that's not really what we went to Vegas for.

Can anybody clear something up for me?

Basically my mate's Dad works for a company that builds and maintains and restores hotrods in Orange County. I've asked my mate if he could ask his Dad if he can (or knows anybody who can) loan me a car for the trip. He knows the kind of driving involved and knows the kind of guy I am so he knows I wouldn't be wanting anything too expensive (in case I break it) and he knows I'm reliable enough that I'm not going to rag it around or take it anywhere dodgy.

Now I'm not talking about his Hotrods, but if I can get my hands on a car that's going to be fun to drive down the coast and across to the Grand Canyon etc. I'll be delighted. I just would prefer not to see some of the best sights from the inside of a Toyota Corrolla and I don't give a shit how that makes me sound.

I'd be happy with a VW Beetle van, or a Jeep Wrangler or something. Clichéd and obvious, but.. well it's America, I'm allowed. ;)

My question is insurance, I had it in my head (and I've no idea from whereI got the idea) that it's the driver that's insured and able t drive any vehicle covered by his license. So (say) I do have to rent a car, my insurance is part of the rental price, but if I were to borrow his Dad's car I'd have to sort myself out?

correct - and it won't come cheap...................

unknown UK Driver, no job, credit rating or bank account in the USA, any US company will run a mile

You might be better trying to get it on your overall travel insurance from this end but with US Liability to cover (shudder).................
