And I don't think Gemmill backed up the said comment either, even if he didn't condemn it at the time. Not condemning something isn't exactly approving it. You could try reading properly, but at least you agree someone should back their chosen appointment which is what happens in life, at least up until he shows he isn't up to it, and I'm the first to admit, and said so at the time, that Souness showed early on this was the case and they ought to have seen at that point that their chosen appointment was a huge mistake. FWIW, Bill McGarry was also an obnoxious cunt like Souness, and other managers have been totally lacking in managerial ability too in the time I have supported this club, but every appointment made by the Halls and Shepherd were backed by them, gave us a lot of european football and relative success for it, and they all had different and understandable credentials for being given the job, unlike those made by Ashley and the owners in the 70's and 80's, a lot of whom were on occasions the only people who would even take it ie Kinnear, Jim Smith [8th choice] and Jack Charlton who didn't even fuckin want it. As in the case of Bobby Robson, replacing him was always going to be difficult, shame Mourinho didn't take the job as number 2 to Robson when he was offered it though ?
