They might have wore skimpy outfits, but there was no gratuitous sex scene that dragged out for 15 minutes and served no purpose but titillation, like you get in the average hollywood actioner. But needless to say I liked it because I found it HUGELY enjoyable. Off the top of my head I would say these things were in its favour: Film noir - one of my favourite genres (don't ask me why because I don't know) Superb graphic effects, the first film to truely bring a comic to life (especially the brutal violence) Great characters accompanied by great acting Brilliant structure that told several interesting, overlapping stories which I genuinely found absorbing and emotional Gorgeous women Infact, there is almost nothing I disliked in the film. Fair enough, you think its puerile, I disagree and anyway, I quite like puerile humour. But to describe it as negatively as you have is frankly ridiculous. I saw it in the cinema with my wife and she like it too, despite this type of film not usually being her cup of tea. About the acting and characters, yes, they were superb - Willis, O'Rourke etc. You've got to take it in the context of who they were supposed to be though, which is something you seem to be missing. It was a comic book - fair enough if that's not your thing, but that's a bit like me slagging of Eminem because I don't like hip hop, or something. I thought the film was one of the most cringeworthy things I'd ever seen, technical accomplishment didn't change that. Given how utterly shite nearly every aspect of the film was I have to assume you're being blinded by something. Given that HF has already said he likes one of the most loathsome characters on this planet, and that he finds her attractive I find it a lot easier to dump you two in the perv bin. I was expecting something like The Big Sleep or Maltese Falcon both of which it didn't bare in real comparisson to for me. Plus I did watch it on a pirate dvd so that probably lessened the visual impact somewhat. I'll have to give it another go. Oh and Paycheck was ok but not one of the better Phillip K Dick translations. Thurman was a complete waste in it. Any amount of unknown actresses could have played that poor excuse for a role.
