A team Florian Wirtz used to be the best player for so they must be shit vs Eddie Howes 70 minute mags

Yep, Pope isn't saving that first goal either. It was a freak goal.

I dunno. I just watched it back and it doesn't look any prettier than it did last night. Firstly he's rooted to his line (as he always seems to be when we defend corners) - Pope might have flapped a punch at it but i reckon there's a chance he tries to claim it. Then after the ball deflects off Bruno's arse he is SO slow to react just as he was for Romero's shanked overhead kick the other week. He dives after the ball is squirming past him

Yeah. Agreed. Bruno is exceptional at this.

He is an exceptional player.

he gave the ball away loads in the first half last night trying those line-breaking passes but it didn't bother me because he was the one trying to mke things happen. the rest of them were really struggling to pass it any way through their low block. it was a lot of safe sideways and backwards passing going all the way from one wing to the other.

the sunderland game should suit us more because i imagine they'll come on to us. we're still not the best at unlocking the door against teams that drop off.

One thing I think that comes up a lot in criticism btw is this bit about us giving the ball away too much etc. IMO that happens because we're trying to break the lines by moving it quickly and taking risks - it's the consequence of not just playing it sideways. Yes it fails sometimes, yes we could get better at it, but that's a calculated risk we seem to have decided to take. And tbh, I actually think we're pretty good at it. We could get better, but you can see that we're really trying to be direct most of the game.

I'm not sure we do, by the way

Regarding Burn, his level has dropped a bit recently but its hard to blame him given how much he's been playing. He was outstanding at CB up until a couple of weeks ago. It's also a bit unreasonable to expect players to continue playing like that indefinitely at this level, he'd be bloody Maldini or Cannavaro then. But he does need a rest although he wont get it on Sunday you'd think.

On Ramsdale I agree we shouldnt be spending $20M or so on him. Might be harsh given his game time but he doesnt seem to be very good at anything to me. He's better with his feet than Pope, but so would be pretty much any other keeper. He's supposed to be good at distribution but I remember quite a few balls going directly to opposition players last two games, I dunno.

Joe is the biggest concern for me right now. We keep hearing about injuries so I don't know if he's become a perma crock; or now that Miggy and Longstaff are gone he's just the next most limited player technically but he's sticking out like a sore thumb. Great to see Miley doing so well and he's got to get a proper run now at some stage. Not sure whats up with Ramsey but I had high hopes for him initially, hopefully more game time will do him good as well.

And btw the negativity in the match threads on here is off the fucking charts at the minute. And not just if we go behind. If we start a game and things don't immediately go our way, it's toys getting flung all over the shop. And if we do go behind, fucking hell. I was watching the match and flicking through here yesterday and thinking wtf am I bothering reading this for.

Fine if that's the way it is now, but I think I'll stop bothering when the games are on. It used to be decent craic on here during matches, people joking on and being able to cope in the absence of absolute gameday perfection from minute 1 to minute 90.

This.

I mostly avoid reading match threads during matches these days.
