Silva is currently in intensive care after crashing in Montevideo on Sunday. The former Portsmouth striker underwent emergency surgery and it is feared he might have to have his lower right leg amputated. Former Uruguay internationals Elbio Pappa and Dardo Pereira were also in the car but they suffered minor injuries. The doctor treating Silva Mario Cancela admitted that the leg injury was a major worry. "It's the condition of the leg which worries us," said Cancela. "It's a very complex injury and a real risk." The doctor confirmed Silva's leg amputated from the knee down. Silva was a member of Uruguay's 2002 World Cup squad and played 49 matches for his country, scoring 15 goals. The striker left Portsmouth by mutual consent in February and was not attached to another club at the time of the accident. Shame really. Don't like to read that about anyone.
