  5. English businessman Paul Davidson is set to buy the controlling share in Spanish football club Real Mallorca. Drac, the company which owns the club, announced on Mallorca's website that a pre-agreement had been reached. It was also stated that Davidson will not take over as president of the club, with Drac owner Vicente Grande remaining in the role. Davidson, who owns a pipe-fitting firm, said he is buying Real Mallorca to promote his businesses in Spain. He told the Telegraph: "I don't know much about football but I will use the club to promote my other business interests. "We will operate our other businesses from the club, but I will not be taking decisions about football. I will leave that to the current management." Davidson, who is known as "The Plumber", will have to formalise the agreement in the coming weeks and the agreement will also be subject to a period of due diligence. The pipe-fitting company owned by Davidson, Fluid Leader, was recently floated on the Plus Market, earning the Englishman a reported £40m. It is believed Davidson will pay £50m to gain a 96% share in Mallorca, and saw off competition from ex-Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd as well as an unnamed Russian investor. Rumour has it FFS bid £17mill
  6. I see your Chomp and raise you a Curly Wurly.
  7. Pipe down a bit chump eh? I was replying to the ridiculous notion that the South has better sportsmen than the North. By using only one sport as your evidence against? There's only one sport as far as I'm concerned. You told me last night you were getting into Golf
  8. Next Tuesday - Eider Gudjohnsen.
  9. W.G. Grace? Mike Gatting. I know fuck all about cricket, but surely you don't need to be fit to be that good? That bloke Devon was a good bowler too, I watched Greg Norman 53, leading the masters, so why can't an old timer do it in cricket, they don't need a great deal of athleticism surely? Don't need a great deal of athleticism? If you're a batsman you could be spending upwards of ten hours at the crease in a two innings match. As a bowler you could be bowling upwards of 60 overs. As well as that you could have upwards of two whole days running around in the field. Aye, no fitness required..... *expects someone to mention the odd exception again*
  10. I'd have him here for anything under 4 mill or so. I think he's quite a good player. Thing is he plays on the mainly on the left wing IIRC a la Ginola, and unless we plan on shipping one of our left wingers out, we don't really need him. We have higher priority positions.
  11. As a matter of fact he devised the tactics for our 4-1 demolition of Tottenham.
  12. I wouldn't say the English in general, mainly the south. The rest are beyond shit, like. Disagree
  13. I wouldn't say the English in general, mainly the south.
  14. Tremlett will never be England quality imo
  15. soooooooooooooooooooo what would be everyones line up for the next test? I'd be looking at something along the lines of: Cook Strauss Vaughan Pietersen Bell Collingwood/Broad/ Simon Jones Flintoff Read Harmison Anderson Panesar I'd personally love to have Simon Jones back in the team if he was 100% fit.
  16. Wonder if we're in for Eider Gudjohnsen. Barca have said he can go and I reckon he'd be available for 5mill or so. Could do a job in midfield or up front.
  17. Looks utter shite like. Not my type of film i'm afraid.
  18. If this summer so far is anything to go by, then that means we probably have a deal near completion.
  19. Have you seen him bowl? Because in the past he's taken stacks of wickets at county level despite his radar being all over the shop, but manages to send down one ball every now and then that will be enough to dismiss your county journeyman but won't trouble a test batsman, then when he plays in tests he's surprisingly not that effective. Also, how quick is he bowling? He was struggling to make 80 mph in his last test. If he's back in business then we really do need some genuine pace and hostility back in the bowling so I'd like to see him back, but only if he's bowling well and bowling fast. I'd rather see Simon Jones back first though. Flintoff hasn't exactly been setting the county scene alight either, but he can't be any worse than Collingwood. Actually, yes I have. I've attended nearly every Durham game at CLS in the past two months, as well as having reports off my friends who saw him play at Headingley. According to the speedometer at the last T20, he was bowling upwards of 86mph every ball - the speed required for a test quicky. Dismissing the County "Journeymen", would these be the likes of Marcus Trescothick, Rob Key, Justin Langer, Ian Blackwell, Justin Kemp, Jon Denly, Tim Bresnan, Michael Vaughan and Anthony McGrath? All good quality batsmen whom Harmy has sent packing in the last month or so. 17-5-31-2 yesterday also shows that his consistency and control is back. To go for less than 2 an over in the modern game is very impressive. RE: Simon Jones, I fully agree with you. I'd love to see him back in the Test team, alongside Flintoff and Harmison. Maybe that's just the 2005 romance coming back. But 3 wickets in 6 sessions on the last two days of a very winnable Test Match is just not good enough.
  20. There'd be uproar if they tried to abolish Test Cricket. They can mess about with this T20 shite all they like, but if they abolished the heart and soul of the game, I, for one, and all the traditionalists of the game wouldn't go back. It would be like trying to abolish the Premier League for an all year round Carling Cup. Btw, I'm assuming it wouldn't be a new 50 over competition, just a restructure of the FPT.
  21. Good Morning Nick Thank you for your below e-mail, I have spoken to our Stadium Manager and he has told me that we have been notified about this before. This incident occurred about five years ago when we were updating the tunnel area, the contractors involved were dealt with at the time and it was not an employee of the club. We can also confirm that this shirt is not hidden behind the 'Howay the lads' sign. Kind regards Jo NUFC Customer Services
  22. A new Twenty20 English Premier League starting in 2010 has been announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board. There will be two divisions of 10 teams which will feature the 18 existing counties plus two overseas teams. The ECB rejected a controversial and radical proposal by David Stewart and Keith Bradshaw which would have left out half of the counties. The Pro40 will be scrapped after 2009, allowing for a total overhaul of club cricket in England. ECB chairman Giles Clarke said: "I am delighted that the board unanimously supported these creative proposals. "I would like to congratulate everyone for their hard work and thank those who went to considerable time and trouble to produce documents for discussion." The board took the decisions having studied detailed market research which demonstrated a spectator desire to watch more Twenty20 cricket. The EPL will be staged in June while there will be a Twenty20 League, replacing the Pro40, in July, August and September and will be played primarily on Friday nights. Although the ECB rejected Stewart and Bradshaw's franchise idea, it did take on board some of their funding proposals. Surrey chairman Stewart said: "These are extremely exciting and satisfying proposals for the future of domestic cricket in England and Wales. I am delighted to support them. "They incorporate some excellent ideas and Keith Bradshaw (MCC chief executive) and I were delighted to be able to submit our ideas as part of the decision making process and to build on the robust structure proposed by ECB as a result of detailed consultations undertaken." The board also agreed the 2010 season would include a 50-over competition and 16 County Championship matches in a two-division structure. I'm struggling to see how they can fit in the EPL, Twenty20 league, 50 over competition (presumably the FP Trophy) and 16 county championship matches per team in a season. It'll have to go deep into September like.
