must admit i'm not the EU's biggest fan, so i guess thats as good as any reason to post it. how does that make me a twat? and to clarify, i didnt create the poster/illustration (whatever you would like to call it). therefore i'm not after anybody. i saw it and thought it provocative and so i posted it to see what response it would get. i knew i would get a reaction from the pro EU people on here. thats what discussion is all about. whats the problem? discussion is good. when people turn round and dismiss you instantly as a 'twat', a non believer in the cause or even a 'moron' because you dont think like them, thats just silly. Tbf though, you posted it, were asked a question about it and declined to answer (or rather answered with a question). So much for 'discussion'. Have you thought about moving into politics? many, many times! but i could never be so cruel on an unsuspecting electorate!

Feel really sorry for the smoggies involved. Not a very happy chrimbo for teeside. 1,700 jobs to go as Corus mothballs plant Steelmaker Corus has confirmed it will curtail production at its Teesside Cast Products factory, putting 1,700 people out of work. It had been announced in May that the 150-year-old Redcar plant was to be mothballed. The plant had been at risk since a 10-year deal suddenly fell through. Business Secretary Lord Mandelson expressed his disappointment, saying it would be a "very difficult time for the workforce". The plant is due to be mothballed at the end of January. The deal that had fallen through was signed by an international consortium, led by Italian steel specialists Marcegaglia, in 2004, and committed the consortium to buy just under 78% of the Redcar plant's production. Corus said that 1,700 jobs would go, which is about 600 fewer than had been previously thought. It says 2,300 people work at the facility. "The steel industry overall has suffered an unprecedented fall in demand in the global recession," Lord Mandelson said. "The government worked hard with all parties following the cancellation of the main supply contract in May to continue the agreement but a commercial solution could not be found." The underlying cause of the problems at Corus has been a fall in demand for steel products, especially in Europe. Construction and manufacturing companies are buying less. And, as so often before, the world's capacity to make steel greatly exceeds demand. Manufacturing has suffered a sharp loss of jobs during the recession. And although manufacturing represents little more than one-eighth of the UK economy these days, it still generates almost half of our exports. Much of the slab steel produced on Teesside was sold abroad. So the mothballing of the plant is another blow to any hope of narrowing Britain's persistent - and worrying - trade deficit. Corus said it was partially mothballing the plant, shutting its blast furnace, its steel melt shop - which makes slab - and one of the two coke ovens. It will be keeping open the wharf facility that handles imports and shipping, the other coke oven and some of the power generation capacity. The company said operating a merchant slab plant with output of three million tonnes a year was "not sustainable" without a long-term partner. "This is a dark day for British manufacturing," said Derek Simpson, joint general secretary of the Unite union. "Unite will do everything possible to prevent this closure from going ahead. The government must now act to save Teesside as decisively as it acted to save the banks last year." Kirby Adams - the Europe chief of Tata Steel, which owns Corus - confirmed the plant's closure to staff on Friday. He said that Corus had funded the business since May, and at one point, it looked very likely that the plant would close in August. Kirby Adams, chief executive, Tata Steel Europe: "This decision comes with massive human cost" "Corus is not in a position where it can bankroll a loss-making business such as Teesside," Mr Adams said in a press conference. "We are acutely aware that this will be devastating news for our employees, our contractors, their families," he said. "All four members of the consortium should look at this and hang their heads in shame." Corus has made about 1,000 job cuts since January, and announced it was cutting almost 2,000 more jobs at its UK plants - including Teesside as well as Scunthorpe and Rotherham - in June. "This is a gut-wrenching disappointment after all the effort and the hopes won by the sheer doggedness of our workers," said Redcar MP Vera Baird. "I'm furious that, after our workers won months of export orders, Corus has not been able either to get a longer term contract or to clinch a deal for the sale of the plant."

Yeah, but "fuck you I won't do what you tell me" is the mature and considered response to Simon Cowell's one-man campaign to rape all music. Or something. best retort in fookin AGES!! -
What's an appropriate sentence for killing 27,000?
AgentAxeman replied to Happy Face's topic in General Chat
Given the coverage we get it's to be expected that axeman sees 'our' torturing of innocent civilians as something clean, with no lasting effects, done with a grave heart only out of extreme necessity for the greater good of humanity. While 'their' torture of innocent civilians and soldiers is a particular kind of evil, without purpose, which stems from a barbaric bloodlust that is inseperable from their religion. isnt it?? thats a joke btw! (just in case) you guys are funny! Backing out graciously? best way methinks -
Got a Facebook invite to this. thought i would share it with ya'all just in case! Fed up of Simon Cowell's latest karaoke act being Christmas No.1? Me too... So who's up for a mass-purchase of the track 'KILLING IN THE NAME' from December 13th (DON'T BUY IT YET!) as a protest to the X-Factor bollocks? http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.p...;gid=2228594104

Humanitarian? Definitley the wrong word for what the US show their 'prisoners'. What makes you say the US keep them alive? That's completely false. The difference is, Al Qaeda (for want of a better all encompassing word) release the footage, the US restrict the media and sweep it under the carpet. I didnt know that (probably due to the media ban i would assume). Torture is still wrong, but neither side will stop doing it. no amount of hand wringing by the likes of you and i will change that. as i said earlier, Shitty "Both sides do it" is not a cogent argument when we are the invading, occupying force killing anyone that objects, as well as lots who don't. I thought we were there as liberators??? The very notion. That's one thing Obama has done like, stop spouting that shitty line. as well as sending more troops in i guess........... -

I think you missed my point (perhaps intentionally). Torturing people doesn't help keep ANYONE safe. Consider if you were a peaceful farmer minding your sheep and a relative of yours was plucked off the streets of Baghdad, rendered to Cuba, and tortured to death without charge or trial. Would that make you more or less likely to take up the fight against the people that did it? I take your point Happy and i agree with you that torture is not a good thing. dont forget tho that both sides partake in torture. normally without the humanitarian (if that is the correct word) aspect that the US shows its 'prisoners' in that they remain alive afterwards. Again, i reiterate, torture is WRONG. but that will never stop people from doing it. If you're in it to win it, you'll do anything! ask Thiery Henry -

tbf Happy, i dont think you can compare Guantanamo to the other concentration/death camps mentioned in this thread. scary stats there. not sure what i would answer to those questions as i have relatives in the army who have been on front line duties. So a little bit of torture and murder is ok? At least he had the good grace to put a respectable face on his torture programs. I'd have thought that having family on the front line would ensure your opposition to the use of torture, given it's power as recruitment propaganda for radical jihadi's. i dont recall saying torture was ok? but if the information gained by the 'intelligence services' has helped save the lives of my relatives on the front line then i guess it puts me in a bit of a quandry. ie. its wrong but i'll gladly take the wrong to protect my own. a shitty state of affairs to be sure, but i dont know anybody that would sacrifice a member of their own family for the sake of their 'principles'. Have you got any hard proof of that? of course not, what a stupid question. But have you any hard proof that it hasnt? I dont agree with torture. I believed I had made that clear. Parky = WUM -

Nile Ranger's the other end of the scale for me re: fans' reactions. He's shown a bit of graft and potential so far but he hasn't even scored for us yet in a competitive game and he's perceived by many as being a player who should be getting a starting berth. Before anyone jumps all over this I'm not writing him off in any way but there already seems to be a fair bit of weight of expectation on the lad's shoulders yet in reality he's done nothing so far. has he got a senior goal for us yet?
