  1. I've seen better posts from Songbird than that article. Speaking of which... where is that Mackem tramp?
  2. Apparently the match sponsor was a firm called O'Brien
  3. Club have made a statement according to Caulkin.
  4. Tell you what, I hope he stays where he is and SAF plays him in April when they come to SJP.. If the atmosphere is even half of what it was yesterday he'll hope the ground opens up and takes him whole.
  5. It's saying something when some people are ecstatic at the thought of Shepherd taking over again. Only 4 years ago we all wanted rid! I want Ashley replaced as much as the next man, but Shepherd is NOT the answer.
  6. Love that we're a real threat at set pieces these days. Used to get sick of the times (admittedly years ago) we'd go to places and play a load of pretty football only to get beat by corners and free kicks we couldn't defend for toffee. Unreliable memory on my part to a degree I'm sure, but it felt like the old Arsenal would do that to us every game. Now we're far more determined in defending set pieces and far more threatening attacking them. Also as Barton points out (and the media recognition of it is pretty much universal now) there does seem to be a real unified, fighting spirit and it's making a difference. It has to obviously or we'd be fucked. It's just a shame we very rarely seemed to have that at the club when we were blessed with a more talented array of players, as who knows what we could have achieved in those circumstances. Water under the bridge now, but that was always the scandalous waste of the past for me. I think a big difference is our ability to deliver a cross these days which was something that was definitely lacking in the relegation season. The number of times we failed to beat the first man when taking a corner back in 2008/09 was criminal.
  7. Williamson 8/8 Barton's corners were great. All right into the danger area, and the vast majority to a Newcastle player. Always been a bugbear of mine since the Robson days our poor corners, wasted on hitting the first man. Considering he was on the pitch for 50 minutes, their record signing was a fucking disaster!
  8. I'm still in the clouds.. and still unable to properly comment as yet Had a feeling it was going to be a rout when we saw the 'pile-on' in the goal-mouth after the first. You'd have thought we'd won the league with the last kick of the season the way they went on - but it quantified that they fully understood what it means to play in a North-East derby. I can't fault any of them but in particular Barton, Tiote & Carroll were immense. Shola's pace (aye, pace!) in the early run up to the second goal has fallen a bit below the radar IMO - he tore through their midfield. Fucking excellent man - what I will say is I'd have felt this way had we played Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea or whoever in that vein - the opposition didn't matter, it was the way we played that has me feeling like a dog with 2 cocks...
  9. Be funny as fuck if this injury was career threatning right after Man Utd double his salary...
  10. I found out in the best way possible that one of the lasses who worked for my Mam worked as a topless dancer in Idols. Apparently my Mam didn't know.... She had difficulty looking me in the face ever again whenever I went to my Mams work after that
  11. Shoot! Also liked them little football comic books you could buy too
  12. Aye I've heard that too. Poor fucking show from those with the purse strings if true but nowt surprises me with them!
  13. Bonkers had strippers before every home game so clearly you never used to go, that was the only reason people went there. I remember one Saturday loosing my head between that blonde lass with the perm's bulbous chebs and having to watch the match with my head covered in shaving foam
  14. Idols is the scruffiest of joints imo, full of urchins and away fans. Sam jacks has rippers on now and again, the best place used to be that pub at the side of Planet Earth, it's doing my head in that I can't remember its' name now, does anyone know what it was called. Shut down about 10 years ago. The strippers didn't just strip that's all I'll say, and iirc was £2 a pint and you got a free whisky with everyone got in some right states before the match in there. My mate just text me, he's been watching the toon training he saw Tiote's score two 30 yard screamers and Carroll hit the bar from 3 yards. How thing's change. Remember being in Idols in 1996 before we played QPR. The place was filled with our lot and one bloke wearing a QPR shirt dared to walk in. Fuck me he was ripped apart! The other place for strippers back then was Bonkers on Lower Friar St (where 'The Gate' is now). Was a fucking dive though! EDIT: just seen the following posts - Dr Gloom, you must have had your fucking eyes shut, there was 2 naked lasses on the bar nearly all the fucking time back then - in fact I remember them bragging that they had 2 at a time whereas Idols only ever had one at a time!
  15. I'd say you were fairly comparable tbh. Aye both boring as fuck and will never come in the top 8. I'll have a £200 bet with any mackem that Newcastle will be in the top 8 before Sunderland are. I'd say we're on an equal footing with both them Stevie perhaps slightly below the pair of them which is why I reckon the pressure's on the Mackems this weekend. They have the bigger reputation to live up to.
  16. Remember them Global Hypercolour was the brand I think. Naf Naf were earlier (and shitter). How fucking awful was that stuff btw - basically a shining beacon to say "i'm a sweaty bastard!" IIRC the jumpers cost £30 as well! And we're talking about 20 years ago
  17. Aye cos 20-30 emails to Sky Sports from 'fans' asking them to refer to the ground 'correctly' is going to make a difference... SS already refer to it correctly - daft bastards!
  18. Play offs in the 2nd Division. Played Sunderland in the playoff semi's. 0-0 at Roker and in the replay... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vkTXwO98sc Ahhh yes, the year you lot went up as an absolute fix! Aye thats right Did you or did you not win the play off final? No, but it didn't matter, which essentially made the Playoff semi the final As I said.. absolute fix! You were promoted because the club who won it were punished for something that happened 2 years previous under previous chairman / manager / players. How can that 'not matter'? And how can you say it make the semi the final? At the time none of the Swindon controversy was known so both clubs were playing for a game at Wembley - NOT to see who would go up. I remember clearly at the time that Newcastle and Sunderland fans alike were gutted that it hadn't contrived that the actually final was between the two clubs.
