Discrimination - competition only open to females
ajax_andy replied to ajax_andy's topic in General Chat
Oh yeah I'm still gonna enter although you have to submit a passport photo of yourself, so I need to persuade a female I know to give me one of theirs. Completely ridiculous though that they can stipulate it's only open to females! -
I was quite shocked yesterday to discover that a competition I wanted to enter was only open to women... The competition is to take a paragraph written by an author (they give you this paragraph) and then you have to complete the chapter in 800 -1000 words. The winner gets £1000 and all sorts of goodies, and gets to hob knob with a load of literary types / agents etc at an awards do. There's absolutely no reason why this competition should only be open to women, and personally I would like to enter it. I have written a few short stories and 25,000 words of a novel so far, and so creative writing is certainly something I enjoy doing... so why is this competition only open to women? Surely the content of the submission is all that matters?! I can understand that certain things in some cases can be gender specific, however this isn't one of them! Imagine a competition that was only open to white people, or god forbid men... there'd be hell on about it. Has anyone else come across sexist discrimination against us men before... is this a worrying trend?

Not heard that tbh but he is pretty intellegent and so possibly that may make him a bit of a knob when speaking to people who aren't. I have a mate who's very intellegent and although mainly sound, there are times when you just can't help feeling like giving him a great big slap around his condecending face!

Yeah would definately recommend watching it on iPlayer... I loved the 1st series but thought this episode was even better

Dabbawal, is that the 'street food' place? I've noticed it when I got to the Bacchus for a post match pint Yeah that's the place... food is excellent and the service is top notch too. I didn't really notice the difference between this and a standard indian because I just got a starter and a curry (both excellent) but I think you can do a tapas kind of thing with the menu which makes it more street food like.

Did anyone watch this last night? It was the 1st episode of series 2. 1st series was really good and last nights was even better... reminds me a bit of a slightly more intellectual Him & Her (for anyone who's seen that). Highly recommend if you fancy something a little different and funny.

Nice one mate... dunno if you like Calamares but if you do then they do the most unbelievable starter there - easily the best Calamares I've had in this country.

Forgot to metion Red Mezze so just came back to say it was really good but you beat me to it

Am surprised there's been no shouts for 'Woosa' on Clayton street! It's a recently opened Thai / Malaysian restaurant (where Black Door used to be) and the food is amazing! Probs the best restaurant I've eaten at in Newcastle Also other recommendations would be: Dabawall as mentioned by Hank Little Saigon (Vietnamese) in the Big Market El Coto (Tapas) next to the Hyena Comedy Club

Thanks I dunno I'd say Man City who have just hit form and trying to win the title is a rock hard game... Wigan have just beaten Man U and Arsenal and will be full of confidence, Chelsea are doing well under Di Matteo (spelling?) and are competing for 4th with you, and Everton will be a hard game even if we have nothing left to play for by the time we meet. I could quite easily see you dropping points in every single one of those matches so I think it's a really hard run in. I could also see you winning them all so I'm not saying you will drop points, I just think as every team pretty much has something to play for then it's not an easy run in. It's alright going on about their form, what about ours?! We're the form team in European football 5 wins in a row, we could drop points in all of them, but we could win them all comfortably too. I posted a form table in the article, and then also said in my last post you could drop points or win every game... you're arguing the same points I made lol -

Haven't published anything about the Toon for a while so though it was about time... You can view the article here: http://thenortheasthub.com/blog/newcastle-united-a-safe-bet-for-fourth/ Feedback as always is welcome

Watched 10 mins and switched it off. I probably go to 100 care homes a year as part of my job and at no point did any of what I saw reflect any real life issues, the character was ridiculous and completely inappropriate, and as a comedy it failed to make me even so much as raise a smile let alone laugh. Gervais is a prick and thinks he can just pull a stupid face and act a bit mentally challenged and it's comedy / tv gold. Sadly he's mistaken!

Dissertation Questionnaire - Help Appreciated
ajax_andy replied to Shrimper25's topic in General Chat
Dunno really... just kind of cooler because it's sponsoring a club doing well in the league. Also it's not a crap company like Sunderland's or some of the others. Any half decent company sponsoring a footy team will automatically become cooler in my opinion. Virgin has been associated with F1 amongst other things too so I guess overall it's a relatively "cool" brand, made "cooler" by being on the shirt of a team doing very well in the league -

Done - but as an Everton supporter I realise my imput is pretty pointless Interesting though that I view Virgin Money as being a better brand due to its association with Newcastle United... I can see what you are trying to show with this questionnaire. -
Even with the US content I find the movie selection utterly shite. Think I might cancel and go back to love film and get the DVD's through the post instead. Sounds good for you lot who like to watch TV programs, but I need something that offers decent films and neither Netflix nor Love Film instant do that

Jesus christ I got some proper odd lucks at work sniggering under my breath at that!
-
Yeah I decided to err on the side of caution and not play... tbh i still feel a bit ropey today but have had a busy day at work which probably hasn't helped.
-
No probs mate cheers for the reply... I'll defo give footy a miss and just rest up until next week. It's was at the RVI... I wasn't expecting it to be so quick either so was pleasantly surprised
-
Spent an hour in A&E only to be told I have concussion which I kind of already knew... But if a waste of time really
-
Yeah I thought this too tbh so went up... They said I needed to go to A & E so just sat there waiting to be seen. Bit of a waste of time I reckon but might as well get it checked out
-
I think I might pop in to the walk in clinic and ask there... tbh I don't think i'll be playing as defo feeling pretty dizzy just now so it's unlikely to be a good idea
