Neil Taylor Transfer Saga & Other Adventures...

Yeah our wage limit is about £50k a week for a key 1st team player. Arteta is on £70k a week but that looks like it was a mistake after being crap for most of last season. The rest are on about £50k - £55k or less. We too are looking to reduce costs though, and with Piennar off the books now, and Yak & Yobo looking likely to be shipped out we clearly can't afford to have so many players on such large contracts... I agree with that though tbh, but I can't understand Ashley's stance with some of your more established key players. We seem to be shipping out the deadwood (bar piennar who wanted to leave), whereas Ashley's approach seems to be to get rid of key players and bring in relative unknowns. Seems a risky strategy to me? So your best player is on £20,000 a week more than our best player, who would be your best player if he played for you. No one signed in the last 3 years at Newcastle is on more than 50k a week, I'd be astonished if Ba's basic is more than 40k for instance. Our wage bill will be less than yours without a doubt, yet our turnover this year will easily be £20m more there's the difference. Our last reported wage bill was £50m, Nolan has left since, and Smith on the way, which probably covers the three new buys plus another possibly. You last reported wage bill is £54.3m. So despite having a significantly smaller income, infrastructure and everything else that goes with it, you are stretching yourself wage wise more than we are, and clearly pay the extra dollar to get players in to the club, which highlights the irony of your massive histrionics regarding the Ba salary the other day. Argument over - no come back. Are u still banging on about this? I thought we'd moved on... That must be a tasty bone eh? Grrr! I'll indulge you one last time though just for shits n giggles. If you knew what you were talking about you'd realise that the players on large contracts are ones that have been at the club for many years I.e Arteta, Cahill, Baines, Jagielka, Howard, Neville etc, and have been rewarded for their loyalty and dedication to the club. It's how you build a good team that constantly finishes in the top 6 or 7 of the league. We don't pay big wages to new signings, but dont let that get in your way of a good rant eh?! -
Recommend me a good restaurant in Newcastle

Went to Red Mezze up by st james recently and the food was outstanding! Pretty cheap too. Turkish food, basically BBQ'd meats... Very nice! -
Definately the best of a good bunch... really like this one mate!

Pretty much the same here - although with exceptions. Collocini is on about £85k p/w and Barton and Smith are on £60k - Smith on his way out. Smith on £60k? Looks like Collocini is going to be the next in line for the chop at £85k a week. Good player, but I'm not sure anyone is worth that much a week, unless they are an absolute superstar at a team with huge resources. Barton is the player I think you need to keep the most, he's the kind of player that will pull the team up by its boot laces and make his team mates work hard... something I think you'll need if you keep bringing in foreign players, as they might take time to settle and adjust to the league (look at Malouda who took the best part of 3 years to settle). -
Haha some quality replies From an non Toon supporter I have to say that I'm pleased he's been given a job at a relatively big club. I think it was a disgrace that Ashley sacked him, and I wish him the best of luck at Brum. Always seemed a nice guy who presented himself well, built an excellent team spirit, and deserved to be treated a damn sight better than he was.

If its Everton we're talking about I think the figure would usually be written more like this tbh - £2.50 a week -

I was making it up like but I could see them looking at a younger model. Age doesn't bother Fergie though when you think about it... Giggs & Scholes are testimant to that. He doesnt exactly use Schole or Giggs fully like he would do when they were younger. If you look at Giggs, he only made 25 appearances in the EPL last season. He likes to have some fresh players and blend them in gradually. Nice thing to have as big club with quality in depth. The human body reaches muscular peak at 25-30 years of age and then it starts to decline. Obviously everyone is different but thats the general understanding. Aye but they played until they were probably 33 on a regular basis (i.e. 1st choice in their position), which would give the 2 Brazilian lads a few years yet to establish themselves. I really can't see Man U having any interest in Baines. -

Quite correct only logical reason he would choose such minnows as us over a goliath of a club like Everton FC. i really wish you'd seen things like this the other day, it would have saved a lot of arguing! Oh well better late then never I suppose -

I thought we were bland, a bit meh, tin pot and small time? How can I learn from you guys when you all contradict each other? If I was contradicting something I'd previously said, you might have had a point there. But you all keep saying different things... I need to learn from you guys and see the error of my ways. How can I do that if you dont all sing from the same hymn sheet? I'm sure you used to have half-decent craic. Maybe I'm confusing you with another Everton fan though as we seem to get a few on here, such is our insignificance to you lot. Yeah maybe you're confussing me with another fan... once you've spoken to an Evertonian you've spoken to them all apparently (you see I did learn something the other day). -

Bit harsh on yourself, Gateshead. If we sign this kid I think it's clear he's not going to be first choice anyway, all I know of him is he got sent off with a ridiculously rash challenge against Forest after 2 minutes in play offs, not arsed either way. Sounds like you're bitter to me -

Indeed it did... although it wasn't on the forum, but on the actual site itself... not sure if this adds more validity to it or not though? Its fine though as i've been reliably informed on here that NO player would EVER choose my small time shite tin pot club over the mighty Bacelona of the North East. Or would they? It makes sense, what player in their right mind would choose little Newcastle over a club with more history than ancient Egypt and ancient Greece put together, a club who's seven letters me more to world sport than any other, a club of such interest and influence their transfer decisions have a major impact on the global economy????!?! You get it after all! I think you must have just been teasing me last time What are you like eh? -

I think in fairness he's probably gone home and watched a couple of videos of our Shane Ferguson and thought he hasnt got a cat in hells chance of breaking into the first team here so decided to lower his sights and slum it at a club where he will probably play regularly next season. Ahh yes instead of Leighton Baines? He'll be gone in a few weeks. We could always use the money to sign Enrique I suppose He wants to go to a big club. So newcastle United aren't a big club? -

Why would they want Baines when they have Evra? I could see Man City maybe, but United is unlikely. Evra's leaving. Swap for Baines? -
