Shearer ready to step in with Allardyce one game from the sack
ewerk replied to Jimbo's topic in Newcastle Forum
How does this moron keep getting work? More bollocks about how we want entertaining football, just give us a manager that can win games. -
Responsibility has to be shared yes, but this shows that the players do want to do something about it rather than Sam's attitude of burying his head in the sand as praying that it suddenly clicks. Allardyce's comments say volumes about his attitude and is unlike to help him 'regain' the dressing room that he has apparently lost. And the leak could have come from anywhere, I'm sure it wasn't a secret within the club and could have come from any number of sources.

It's a football club man, not a fucking gangster film, did he merk their asses?
-
Had to be ghost written. If Given had really written it every sentence would end with "to be sure, to be sure".
-
No. What he's doing is showing the players up for what they are and also showing them that he's ready to take them on in the media if that is their chosen weapon. What they are? You mean that they're concerned about a disastrous run where we've been served up absolute shite? To me it shows that they at least care about the team and how we're doing, rather than simply turning up and lifting their money. It shouldn't be being played out in the media by either side, I'd hoped that had ended with Shepherd's departure.
-
All he had to say was that it was a private meeting where he and the players discussed the recent poor run of form, no need to act the Billy Big Bollocks.
-
I wonder whether this was off their own bat or they were prompted to say something by Sam or Mort.
-
Without really knowing what went on I'd say it was more than likely a discussion rather than anyone spitting their dummy out, however the reaction from Allardyce is unlikely to placate any concerns they had. And more importantly why the fuck is that fat cunt once again in the papers talking about this? It was a private meeting so why can't he just say that rather than having to act the big man telling all who'll listen about how he knows best. Belt up Sam.
-
You reckon the players should be happy with the shite tactics that Allardyce has them using? They're more than entitled to their say imo, especially when it's clear to all that the tactics and the system aren't working, if the manager can't see it then someone has to tell him and it's best coming from those who are actually employed in the system.
-
Tbh I don't think the story is as much about the players seeking a meeting but the worrying issue is the fact that Sam has pretty much told them to fuck off and do as they're told.
-
a. What have Mort and Ashley done / not done that you disagree with? b. Would Shepherd have done it differently?
-
Exactly the sort of attitude that makes me think that the man is a prick, I'm not saying that the players should be telling him what to do but their input and preferences should be taken into consideration. If he keeps up this level of arrogance I can't see him lasting till Christmas, recent performances (barring Blackburn) show a team who aren't motivated and they won't be motivated by a manager they dislike.
-
No. It's just the same as with Roeder. People tearing their hair out and screaming blue murder with no kind of objectivity or alternative. Whatever happened to this kind of attitude.... Quoted for truth. Do people REALLY think we've gone backwards? Are you as unhappy with Allardyce as you were with Roeder? Serious question. I think that attitude went out the window with the bizarre tactics. As for your question, it's hard to say. I knew Roeder wouldn't do wel so it was always a case of waiting until a better alternative came along. With Allardyce, at least I had faith in him doing a half decent job. I think he might just turn it around in the next couple of matches though. Unless we're in serious trouble SA needs to be weighed up at the end of the season imo or at least till after the christmas window. There are no quick fixes in football. Damn you and your voice of reason.

Ultimately a manager will be respected on what he does as a manager but there is not doubt that if Shearer walked through the dressing room door as manager he'd command a hell of a lot more respect than some lower league journey man in his first job. -

Aye, I had thought about that myself but tbf there aren't too many players left from his last season here. -

I heard a story about Viduka that makes think Shearer would be getting no respect there. Momentum is easily lost. Status? I'm afraid he only has status to us, I don't think he carries much weight amongst foreign players, who would frankly wonder why they are taking orders from someone only 5 years older than them. Even the current crop of supposed crap in the squad there a few player who can claim to have achieved more than him as footballers. Bollocks, Shearer was recognised as one of the top strikers in the world at a time, even look at what Berbatov was saying recently about him, his status stretches much further than the Newcastle area. The only thing is no one knows if he's got the coaching ability or tactical nous for the job until he actually manages a team. -

I'm not demanding instant success, nor am I calling for his head. What I've said is that what I have seen thus far has been very worrying, especially considering the quality of opposition we've faced. We've seen no sign of effective tactics or team selections, something which should be fairly basic for a decent manager. What I have seen is a manager trying to implement a system that was successful with his previous club but simply doesn't translate to the squad of players we currently have and this has been evident in the performances and results this season. 14 games should be more than enough for any decent manager to see the mistakes he is making and rectifying them, if results and performances don't improve between now and Christmas then I'll be calling for his head.
-
As am I, I'm just not seeing many signs of improvement. After one of our easiest starts to a PL season.
-
I'm not just on about yesterday, I'm on about the entire season. 24 league goals conceded so far speaks volumes.
-
Agreed, but it doesn't excuse consistently shite tactics and baffling team selections. He's testing the water, finding his feet. The fact is we do need to defend better and he's experimenting. It's not an exact science. If he picked the predictable team and tactics what would be different between him and last season's regime? We can't attack nor defend, Roeder proved that last season. Sam is trying to address the latter first, evident by his signings, and whilst he hasn't got it right instantly, that doesn't mean he won't. And how long do you suggest we should haemorrage goals before he thinks about changing it? Yes we've adopted a more defensive approach but it still hasn't stopped us conceding.
