  1. It's also exactly what Keegan was saying before he had Milner sold behind his back and the Spanish Shola drafted in.
  2. The South African businessman Jonathan Cleland said last night he was "hopeful" of completing a takeover of Newcastle United. Cleland is heading a consortium of investors and has been in contact with the investment bank Seymour Pierce, who are in charge of finding a new buyer for Newcastle, over securing a potential £300m deal. Cleland's interest in Newcastle was made public this month, only to be discredited when three South African billionaires, Johann Rupert, Brian Joffe and Vivian Imerman, who were also said to be involved in the consortium, stated they had no interest in buying out the current owner, Mike Ashley. The Cleland bid also took a knock from Keith Harris, the chairman of Seymour Pierce, who described it this week as not being a "serious" offer, but Cleland insists the takeover attempt is genuine - and having spent the past week in South Africa shoring up investment, claims to be in a position to move on to the St James' Park board with immediate effect. "We're hopeful of still doing a deal for Newcastle United very soon," Cleland told the Guardian, although he was unwilling to discuss who else was part of the consortium.
  3. EVERTON are set for a £200million takeover bid — from the Arab billionaires who wanted Charlton. Zabeel Investments, owned by Dubai’s royal family, are ready to drop their interest in the Londoners. They made a £20m offer for the Championship club just a week ago but now feel the Merseysiders would offer better value for money. Ironically, Zabeel have previously shown an interest in buying Liverpool and have been linked to Arsenal, Newcastle, Tottenham and West Ham as well. Company chairman Mohammed Al Hashimi and his representatives are willing to wipe out Everton’s £52m debt. They would also bankroll the move to a new stadium, with £78m of funding needed. But the news will anger Charlton, where Zabeel had planned to buy the club and wipe out their £20m debt.
  4. I'm not expecting any news until next week.

    Levi Stubbs

Arguably the most powerful voice in Motown's storied history has been silenced. Four Tops lead singer Levi Stubbs, Jr., died today (Oct. 17) at his home in Detroit after a long series io illnesses -- including cancer and a stroke -- that forced him to stop performing in 2000. He was 72. Funeral arrangements are pending for Stubbs, who is survived by Clineice, his wife of 48 years, and five children. "He had one of the most prolific and identifiably voices in American history," the Motown Alumni Association's Billy J. Wilson tells Billboard.com. "It's a deep loss, to the entire Motown family and to the world." Stubbs' death leaves Abdul "Duke" Fakir as the Tops' only living member from the original quartet, which formed in 1954 as the Four Aims and signed with Motown nine years later. Laurence Payton passed away in 1997, and Renaldo "Obie" Benson died in 2005. Fakir continues to lead a version of the Tops that includes Payton's son Roquel, former Temptations member Theo Peoples and Motown veteran Ronnie McNeir. Stubbs -- born Levi Stubbles in Detroit -- gave voice to enduring hits such as "Baby I Need Your Loving," "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)," "Reach Out I'll Be There," "Brenadette" and others. The Tops have sold more than 50 million records and racked up 45 chart hits for the Motown, ABC Dunhill, Arista and Casablanca labels, and the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Stubbs also provided the voice of Audrey II, the man-eating plant in the film version of the musical "Little Shop of Horrors" in 1986, and of Mother Brain in the 1989 animated TV series "Captain N: The Game Master."
  6. Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear has explained the reasons behind his foul-mouthed outburst at a news conference earlier this month. Kinnear, 61, swore more than 50 times at reporters but told BBC 5 Live: "It's the language I have grown up with. "I'm not trying to be something I'm not. I grew up on a council estate in Watford." Kinnear, whose appointment as interim manager of the struggling Premier League club was greeted with shock, claimed he was upset at his treatment in the media. And he hit out at newspaper journalists that he believed had ridiculed him and tried to undermine his position. The former Wimbledon boss added: "I come from a one-parent family. My dad died when I was young and my mum brought up five on a council estate. "There were an awful lot of characters at Wimbledon in the 10 years that I was there for it. "There were things that had to be said and I don't know how to say them any other way than to tell them straight how it is." Kinnear added that the international break has given him time to find his feet on Tyneside - and that he would stay at the club "for life" if given the chance. "The break has given me the chance to get some key players back, like Obafemi Martins," he said. "It's given me a good chance to take stock of what I've got, work with the players and get to know them better. I've got a good feeling about the place, too. "Maybe I've brought new ideas into the club, but I like to keep everything simple. "I'd stay here for life if I could. It's a massive club and I want to be part of it."
  7. I wouldn't bet stolen money on us at the moment, the jury is still out on Kinnear, Owen will be out, Martins might be back but is unlikely to be fit, can't see many goals in all honesty.
  8. I think that was the argument over his registration, as they have lost that and he's been seen to be a sucess, they feel they have a strong case for compensation.
  9. Newcastle have been thrown into another cash controversy - this time over their 'bargain' summer signing of Jonás Gutiérrez. Newcastle signed the Argentinian winger in good faith, believing he was a free agent. But Gutiérrez's registration is now being disputed not just by his former club, Mallorca, who turned down a £8million bid for the highly rated player from Portsmouth as recently as January, but also by Argentine club Velez Sarsfield. Officials at St James' Park have refused to pay a penny for the transfer, but now could face a multi-million pound transfer bill plus lawyers' fees as Mallorca has launched a legal appeal. According to Gutiérrez, he was entitled to negotiate his own transfer without Mallorca’s permission as he had taken advantage of Fifa’s Article 17 which allows players under 28 to buy themselves out of a contract three years after the deal was signed. The clause is called 'the Webster ruling' after the test case involving the Hearts defender Andy Webster. Gutiérrez moved to Mallorca in 2005 after winning the Argentina league title with Sarsfield. But despite this, Mallorca have gone to law and have been given a court date in February, and if the Spanish judge rules in their favour, Newcastle could be looking for at least £8m in transfer monies plus legal costs.

  15. His comments seem to hint of desperation, seems like he's trying to whore the sale along.
  16. Seymour Pierce chairman Keith Harris is hoping to receive firm offers for Newcastle as he looks for a new owner for the club. Harris is brokering the sale of Newcastle after he was appointed last month by current owner Mike Ashley to identify potential buyers for the Tyneside outfit. Ashley is determined to sell the club after coming under fire from supporters following the resignation of former manager Kevin Keegan. Harris has revealed there are seven parties interested in gaining control at St James' Park and he admits the club's new owners are likely to come from abroad. A Nigerian and South African consortium have been strongly linked with takeover bids, but Harris says neither party have shown serious interest. Interest ""I think it's certainly likely that the next owner of Newcastle United will come away from these shores," Harris told Sky Sports News. "Whether it is from the Middle East is another matter, but I think it is a reasonable assumption to say the new owner will not be a Brit. "We have had now for seven or eight days seven seriously interested parties and within that group we have taken the chance now to start honing down the list. "So far nobody has dropped out and we have been asking people to begin to sharpen their pencils. "They are not from these shores. There is a strong international element to them and that is not surprising as clearly wealth has been generated away from these shores more than it has been within these shores "The Premiership is a major entertainment and TV content provider throughout the world, increasingly in the United States and is very well established in South East Asia, China, in India and certainly in the Middle East. "And I don't think you would be surprised if the nationality of the new owner were to come from any of those parts of the world." Harris admitted he had spoken to some parties from Nigeria and South Africa, but he admits they are among the seven parties they are currently talking to. "I have read about it [the Nigerian and South African interest] just like a lot of other people have and I think we have to distinguish between interest and serious interest," added Harris. "We have certainly had people talk to us from those parts of the world but we haven't deemed them to be serious interest because the one or two very simple criteria we have asked people to come up with haven't been established." No pre-condition Harris also revealed that none of the seven interested parties had indicated that they would want Keegan to return as manager if they were to buy the club. "Nobody has said to us it is a condition for us to go forward and frankly Joe Kinnear has done a pretty good job in a short period of time," noted Harris. "Whoever the new owner will be, it will be their choice of the management team of running the business off the field and running the business on the field. "There is a wealth of management talent available but no one has said it is a pre-condition that it is this manager, that manager or any other manager. Asked what were the chances of Keegan making a return to Newcastle, Harris said: "That is impossible to predict that. "We haven't even had discussions with the parties that have expressed an interest in buying the business as to who the new manager will be so I can't predict that."
