The Annual How's Your Other Team Doing Thread
Jimbo replied to Kid Dynamite's topic in Newcastle Forum
Not my "other team" but certainly my local team, Lowestoft Town, got to a Wembley Final for the FA Vase and lost, and winning the league too, pity for them that the stadium isn't good enough to get promoted, also my other local team Kirkley & Pakefield are also in the same league, not exactly Boca Jnrs Vs River Plate but there is a good rivalry. -
With the lack of interest in the club, is there any way back for Mike Ashley as long-term owner of NUFC ? Are there any terms in which you would accept or support him or has he burnt all his bridges and the only way out is for him to sell up ?

NUSC seeks meeting with Ashley over future of NUFC. Newcastle United Supporters Club, PO Box 621, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE5 9AD 30th October 2008. Ref: Request for Update on the sale and future intentions towards Newcastle United FC The Newcastle United Supporters Club (NUSC) is a newly constituted representative body. It has an established constitution and growing membership and is the only such representative organisation for Newcastle United supporters. Supporters of the club are naturally extremely concerned regarding the current uncertainty and instability related to the intended sale of Newcastle United and extremely perturbed at media reports regarding the intentions towards. Further, we have great anxieties regarding the intentions of the club’s executive management in the forthcoming January transfer window and our prospects for maintaining our status as a Premier League club. The purpose of this letter is to request a meeting with the club’s owner, Mike Ashley and the Managing Director, Derek Llambias as well as Keith Harris (Seymour Pierce) to seek an update regarding the progress regards the sale of Newcastle United FC. We are not seeking access to confidential commercially sensitive information but believe as a representative body for supporters we are entitled to a dialogue with the people who are currently pivotal to the future of the club we have all supported for many years. We are proposing that three members of the NUSC Committee meet with Messrs Ashley, Llambias and Harris at the earliest convenience and would urge you to appreciate the concerns supporters, or your paying customers, have regards the strategic direction of Newcastle United going forward. In that sense we would ask that this meeting take place as soon as possible. We do not believe it unreasonable to request that this meeting take place in Newcastle, though if necessary will travel to London or anywhere else in the UK if this is more agreeable to you. We would urge you to find a suitable date before the end of November 2008. Please be assured details regarding any meeting’s arrangements will be treated in the strictest confidence and will not be disclosed to any media sources without your express consent. However, we will communicate the broad content with supporters following any meeting, which you will understand is part of our representative function. I look forward to your speedy reply. I can fathom someone believing in something more. I can fathom wanting to belong to a group of believers. I can fathom the desire to believe that EVERYTHING is either pre-ordained or in the control of something. For the life of me though, I'm afraid I can't for one second comprehend a grown person hoping for stuff to happen so much that they ask an imaginary friend to make it happen. Just toss a coin - "heads I get my promotion" - and thank chance rather than god. I know what you mean. Ive alsways prayed since I was a kid as I went to a CoE school and we would pray every morning and evening so I think its from that. It just puts my mind at reast when I goto bed. Its a quick one not long winded. Weird I know but hey, thats me! Just knock one out, I find that does the trick.

It always amuses me that Christian Athletes never blame God or Jesus for a defeat, they are so quick to give them credit for a victory, I'd have a lot more respect for them if there was more fist waving at the heavens after a loss.

Compootah [suffolk/] Yes it is.....Unless Aepswatch isn't in Suffolk. To me an Ipswich accent sounds totally different to north Suffolk where I'm from, it's closer to a Norfolk accent but not quite a yokel as Norwich. Ever been to Hadleigh? Between Sudbury and Ipswich ? No, I've been to both but not Hadleigh. Not the place to walk into a local over Christmas (with a mate and his family) and order a glass of wine. It was one of those scenes where everyone stops and looks round. I know just the kind of place, a kind of cross between The Slaughtered Lamb in American Werewolf in London and the Mos Eisley Cantina

When it comes to achievements, there should be a tribute to Joe Harvey before Sir Bobby at SJP, but you could certainly argue a fitting tribute in Newcastle or Durham for Sir Bobby in recognition for his achievements in football in general rather than purely his time at NUFC.

Sir Bobby Jokes Over His Cancer Former England manager Sir Bobby Robson has bravely joked about his latest battle with cancer. The 75-year-old has been diagnosed with lung cancer five times over the last 15 years, but is not expected to win his latest fight. He was speaking ahead of a huge fundraising event in Durham in aid of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation which will fund a centre for the early detection of the disease. I'm thoroughly looking forward to an evening of letting my hair down - although thanks to recent radiotherapy treatment I don't have much hair to let down any more. A host of famous faces were expected to attend the fundraising event, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Charlton and former Newcastle United and England skipper Alan Shearer. Former Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall is expected to perform, along with opera singer Graeme Danby and local school children. Sir Bobby said: "The treatment has knocked me for 12, not six, but every day is a new day and the support of my good friends, family and all the very many well-wishers and supporters of my charity keeps me positive." Earlier this year, Sir Bobby admitted he will lose his battle with lung cancer 'sooner rather than later'. He said: 'I have accepted what they have told me and I am determined to make the most of what time I have left." His foundation will fund research into the early detection and treatment of cancer and has already raised enough money to set up a Cancer Trials Research Centre which will treat patients from January 2009. In an interview with the Mail on Sunday last weekend, Sir Alex paid a warm tribute to Sir Bobby, saying: "Now and again someone enters this world who is special, someone who is able to captivate with his sheer presence and personality, his honesty, integrity and infectious enthusiasm for whatever is his calling in life. "I am so glad I am counted among his friends."

Scouse by a country-mile, next is brummie, always sounds thick to me, although the most intelligent person I've ever met came from Birmingham. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Suffolk/Melbourne accent yet.
