LONDON (AP) - English businessman Mike Ashley has increased his stake in Premier League club Newcastle to 51.52 percent. The billionaire bought an additional 950,000 shares on Wednesday, his company St. James Holdings Ltd. said in a statement to the London Stock Exchange on Thursday. On May 23, Ashley's SJHL announced it had bought a stake of 41.6 percent. Last week, Newcastle's board said that chairman Freddy Shepherd would sell his 28 percent shareholding to Ashley. Ashley would need to reach 75 percent to achieve a full takeover of the club, which has a huge fan base but has not won the league title since 1927 or the FA Cup since 1955.

Italian police have arrested a Russian "ninja" who had been spreading fear across farmlands in the north of the country. The man, camouflaged in an all black suit, had robbed several farmers and their families at knife point, police say. Police had been searching for him for several weeks.
