  1. Newcastle v Plymouth Coca Cola Championship Venue: St James' Park Date: Saturday, 19 September Kick-off: 1500 BST Coverage: BBC Sport website, BBC Radio 5 live, BBC local radio, Final Score & highlights on The Football League Show TEAM NEWS Newcastle are without Shola Ameobi (foot) and Jonas Gutierrez (hamstring), but Alan Smith is available again after serving a suspension. Defender Zurab Khizanishvili is in line for a debut following his loan move from Blackburn Rovers. Plymouth are set to include Australian defender Shane Lowry after signing him on a three-month loan from Aston Villa. Striker Bradley Wright-Phillips is pushing for a starting place having recently recovered from a knee injury. MATCH PREVIEW Newcastle's storming start to the season was interrupted at Blackpool, where the Magpies suffered their first Championship defeat. News that top scorer Shola Abeobi faces two months on the sidelines was another blow. Now they are looking to get back to winning ways against a struggling Plymouth side that are bottom of the table and without a win this term. The pressure is growing on Paul Sturrock, whose second spell as Plymouth manager is turning into an unhappy one. Another Argyle defeat would be a sixth consecutive loss for the first time in 42 years. They desperately need to turn their season around but few will fancy their chances of causing an upset at St James' Park, where Newcastle have won all three of their games so far. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • Newcastle and Plymouth are meeting for the first time in 18 years. • They first played against each other in the league in 1934 and Plymouth's only win at St James' Park was 2-0 in the old Second Division in September 1961. Newcastle • Newcastle have one of the two remaining 100% home records in the Championship. The Magpies and Bristol City have both won all three games at home. • The Tyneside club are the only side not to have conceded a home goal in the Championship so far this season. • They also boast the tightest defence in the division, with just three goals shipped in seven outings. Plymouth • Plymouth are on an 11-match winless league run, having drawn four and lost seven since a 4-0 home victory over Coventry on 11 April. • Paul Sturrock's side dropped 23 points from winning positions last season and have already squandered an unequalled eight points this term. MOST RECENT MEETING Plymouth 2-0 Newcastle (20 December 1991)
  2. The mother of the late Jade Goody, Jackiey Budden has told OK! that she’s “finished” being a lesbian and has a boyfriend, Jason. Although CW sees that, for minor celebrities in a symbiotic relationship with the gossip press, the question: “Do you think it’s a good idea to sell intimate aspects of your life to a readership yelping out choice cuts across the call-centre floor?” would be met with “It’s four grand in the bank, mate!”, it does wonder about the ethics of OK! printing the following. Jackiey claims Jade’s ghost has approved her new relationship: “Jade would never have wanted me to be a sphincter.” OK!: “Do you mean spinster?” Jackiey: “Yes.”

  7. Unique scarf will commemorate Sir Bobby Last updated: 16/09/2009 15:00:00 IPSWICH Town's special link with Newcastle United is set to be celebrated today with the release of a unique item of memorabilia. They may be preparing to do battle on the football field but the two clubs have put sporting rivalries aside to jointly release a scarf in honour of Sir Bobby Robson. The blue and black design features the crests of both clubs with all proceeds from sales going to the former Town and Magpies manager's cancer charity, The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. The scarf, which will be priced at £6, went on sale in club shops today. The memorial scarf Ipswich Town communications director Terry Baxter said he hoped fans from both clubs would wear the scarf with pride. “We are delighted to be able to help support Sir Bobby's charity in this way,” he said. “Along with Newcastle United we have developed the match specific blue and white/ black and white scarf. “All profits from the sale of this unique item will go directly to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and I am sure that our supporters will wear the scarf with pride in his memory.” Footage of Sir Bobby's memorial service, which is taking place at Durham Cathedral on Monday, is to be screened live on the Cornhill. As revealed in yesterday's Evening Star, the borough council is appealing to traders and businesses to deck their windows out in Town's colours on the day to ensure the former England boss is given a fitting send off. Town entertain Newcastle on September 26. Prior to the match the North Stand will be renamed in Sir Bobby's honour. Borough council leader Liz Harsant said: “Sir Bobby was not only a national hero, he was an Ipswich hero and will always be a legend here.”

  11. From The Times September 15, 2009 Kevin Keegan begins bid for £8m compensation George Caulkin More than a year after his acrimonious departure from the club, Kevin Keegan’s case for constructive dismissal against Newcastle United finally began yesterday at a Premier League arbitration tribunal. Amid positive noises regarding the long-running takeover saga at St James’ Park, Keegan’s claim for about £8million in compensation from Mike Ashley’s Newcastle regime was heard by an independent panel. While Barry Moat’s attempts to buy the club from Ashley is not dependent on the result of Keegan’s tribunal - the Tyneside-based entrepreneur’s business model for the purchase is understood to take all possible eventualities into account - a successful resolution would remove a complication from a process that has been deeply convoluted. Direct negotiations between Ashley and Moat are continuing, with the tone of the talks reported to be increasingly, if cautiously, optimistic. Moat is the preferred bidder of Seymour Pierce, the investment bank - which has been required to sift through expressions of interest from 25 consortia, many of whom have been dismissed as publicity-seekers or time-wasters - hired by Ashley to complete a sale. At issue has been the structure of payments to Ashley, who has been demanding £100m for the club, possible bonuses should they be promoted this season and Newcastle’s overdraft facility with Barclays. Central to Keegan’s case is the role of Dennis Wise, Newcastle’s former Executive Director (Football), and the division of duties regarding player acquisitions. The former manager left the club early last September when Xisco and Ignacio Gonzalez were signed on transfer deadline day, allegedly without his approval. Newcastle’s counter-argument is that Keegan breached his three-and-a-half-year contract by effectively resigning. What followed was a period of turmoil, bitterness and uncertainty, which culminated in Newcastle’s relegation in May. Amid cost-cutting and job-losses, established names such as Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Sebastien Bassong and Damien Duff left the club over the summer, yet the team are unbeaten in the Coca-Cola Championship. Newcastle have mustered five league victories and the same number of clean sheets in succession, a record for the club, but their squad remains desperately thin and Alan Smith’s dismissal at Cardiff City on Sunday will stretch Chris Hughton’s resources. Shola Ameobi, Jonas Gutierrez and Andy Carroll are all presently injured. Hughton, Newcastle’s interim manager, has repeatedly expressed a wish for more loan signings to be made - only two new players have arrived since their demotion - and Kevin Nolan, the midfield player, has pleaded with the club’s ownership to do the same. “Chris has managed to keep a group of players together, albeit that we need more people coming in,” Nolan said. “We know that and the board has got to start backing him. Chris has been asking for that for six or seven weeks, and we’ve been asking as well. He needs to be given the resources he requires to get us back to where we belong as quickly as possible. That is what is needed. “This club shouldn’t be in this league, but it is and Chris is doing a fantastic job trying to get us out of it. I’ve got nothing but admiration for him. What happens upstairs has got nothing to do with us. All we ask is that they give Chris a bit of support because he deserves that at this moment in time. Takeovers can happen or they can’t, but Chris and Colin Calderwood need that support and so do the players.”
