1. Hamstring could be used in Owen op One of Michael Owen's troublesome hamstrings could be used in the operation on his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. Owen, 26, has had problems with his hamstrings since 1999 when he missed three months of the season, but he damaged his knee in the first minute of England's clash with Sweden. His anterior cruciate - cross-shaped ligaments within the knee-joint - will require surgery and the most popular method is using the hamstring to help repair the knee. "They have had artificial ligaments but using a bit of your hamstring is the most popular method," said Amanda Marsh, clinical lead physiotherapist at Guy's and St Thomas'. "They take a bit of tendon and, using key-hole surgery, thread it through and screw it. That is the most popular but the other option is using the patella tendon just below the knee cap." Marsh believes recovery can take between four and 12 months, although former England international Paul Gascoigne was out for 16 months when he damaged his knee during the 1991 FA Cup final. "There are a lot of variables when estimating recovery time," added Marsh. "Four months would be a minimum and six months would be a great result for a return to elite level sport." Marsh described the psychological impact of the injury as "massive", adding: "One criteria of people returning is having confidence in the knee, especially as a footballer asking 'will it go again'. "He will have to have 90% strength in it and have confidence before returning."

9. Newcastle to be paid Owen damages Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has confirmed that the club will receive compensation from the Football Association for Michael Owen's injury. Owen was ruled out for several months with knee ligament damage after falling awkwardly in the draw with Sweden. The England striker has returned to the Newcastle to begin his rehabilitation. Shepherd said: "The FA insures England players when they are on international duty should compensation issues arise and that applies in Michael's case." FA spokesman Adrian Bevington agreed: "We have an insurance policy in place for all players that covers their salaries while they are injured." Owen has managed only 10 starts and one further appearance as a substitute since his arrival at St James' Park last summer. And Shepherd is thought to have taken out additional coverage with the FA against a serious injury to his £17m signing. "If you lend tools to someone and they come back broken you shouldn't have to pay for the repair and that is what happened to Newcastle," said Shepherd. "The FA have a level of compensation and we insured Michael above that but compensation isn't high enough in my opinion." "I nearly vomited when it happened. You can imagine, we've just got him fit for England, he's played very well for Newcastle this year, he plays two games for England, and he is substituted. "And now he's sent back to Newcastle for us to more or less pick up the pieces. So we don't think any manager, or chairman, or supporter, is going to be very happy with that."
10. Do you think we've got a direct debit set up with Dr Richard Steadman ?
11. I know, its rather pathetic.
12. Next season's fixture list is out tomorrow, PLEASE don't post them on the board as we do not have the rights to list them and we could get a hefty fine if someone posts them on the board. Ta.
13. Fat Fred will be popping an artery over this ! How long before he makes a statement regarding nailing FIFA and the FA for compensation ? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/4825680.stm
14. The worst fears of Michael Owen and England have been realised after a scan revealed the striker will miss the next five months with cruciate ligament damage. Owen collapsed in the opening exchanges of England's 2-2 draw with Sweden on Tuesday and initial fears that the injury was a serious one have now been confirmed. More to follow...
15. Hind sight is a wonderful thing isn't it ! This might be better news than it first appears, certainly if its only a minor injury, it looks like Owen will still be a Newcastle United player come the 1st of September ! if its a injury that sees him sit out the rest of the World cup but is fit for the start of the Premiership it could be to our advantage. If it isn't we are fucked.
16. I'm expecting more boring dross, shit tactics, mindless negative substitutions. Probably a draw, maybe a defeat, at best a late winner against the run of play.
17. I liked it the other day when the commentator referred to him by his full name. The machine gun blast-esque Ricky Kaka. 150868 His full name is Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite no wonder he call's himself Kaka, rather unfortunate, as its slang for Shit in italian !
18. Are you implying your 'dude' is a dramatically different colour to your body? 150810 That totally depends on how much wanking I've been doing !
