It's hard to tell what the truth is, but the everything about this 'story' is so bizarre that I think it is all true. Car at petrol station. Robbers. Driver runs off with keys to car which makes the robbers start firing. Robbers depart. Injured man gets to hospital and is told, by staff, to contact police. Martins is unaware of driver's injuries as he ran off and did a Forrest Gump until he got to hospital. Martins left car as no keys and went home to rest his ageing legs. God knows!!

Should we be re-negotiating Owen's contract NOW ? Telling him we want to remove this decreasing sell-on clause and if he doesn't like it then sell him?? If Owen does well, he will be off for a pittance in Jan or next summer it seems and maybe it would be better to just change his contract or sell him before we go any further. I don't think for one minute Owen would agree to a change in his contract so maybe a parting of the two now would be the best for both parties?

I was lying in bed thinking about this last night and trying to decide how worried I actually am. The fact that we need a whole new back four is worrying imo. Then I started to think about when Keegan had his first full season in charge. He had bought Killer Kilcline towards the end of the previous season so he was not exactly an 'old hand'. Then he bought Beresford and Venison so our back four at the start of the new season was pretty much in the same position as ours will be this season i.e. not too familiar with each other. So, I came to the scary thought that maybe, just maybe, things could well be surprisingly good...... Apologies if my timings of the signings of Kilcline, Beresford and Venison are all to cock

It's a 'No' for me. I always thought Smith was overrated tbh. And if Allardyce is fearing losing Owen or Martins, he should be looking at replacements at £10m, not bargain buys imo. Then again, if he is looking to hedge his bets, maybe there is more to this rumour than we think and, at £3m-ish, Allardyce reckons Smith is priced reasonably to buy him as potential cover for a departure; after all, it appears Allardyce only has a certain budget to spend and most of it has to go on defenders. If Smith is bought, 'just in case', and he is proved not to be needed, NUFC will be able to sell him on next summer without too much of a loss. fwiw, I reckon the four strikers we have at the moment will be with us throughout the season.

We would all like to win a cup. But that isn't going to be a gauge on how we are progressing as a team. Allardyce has to get a complete new back four imo (coupled with using Taylor and continuing his education) and that back four will have to get used to Shay and vice versa. The whole back four business is going to be one hell of a task to accomplish in a short space of time.

I'm feeling fairly depressed at the moment about NUFC and the fact that Allardyce seems to have a big rebuilding programme to undertake. So, people, how long are you prepared to give Allardyce and where would you realistically accept us finishing next season? I feel comfortable with Allardyce and believe that he will be able to turn this juggernaut round - given time. I would be happy (as one can be happy) with finishing top 10 next season. Obviously further up the table would be nice, but he has a big job on his hands and I think he will need all the time he can get. I'm asking this question because we Newcastle supporters are quick to moan about the manager if things aren't going to our liking, but surely the vast majority of us believe that this team needs one hell of a lot of work done to it and it is surely going to need time given to the manager to do this. So?

I guess I'm not alone in this, but the more I think about NUFC, the more I come to the conclusion that it (NUFC) is just a fuckin' shambles all round. From the operating procedures to the playing staff; from the training ground to the shed being rented back after being sold; from player contracts to background staff.
